Just Engaged, the Abandoned Comeback System Arrived

Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Will He Take the Bait?

At the side gate of the Third-Grade Grand General’s Su Mansion, two horse-drawn carriages blocked the way.

”I heard you’ve been running to the Lin Family’s home constantly these past two days,” Mu Lingyan asked, lifting the carriage’s window curtain.

”Yeah, that’s right. I’m looking for Sister Lin to exchange Zither Dao skills,” Su Wan nodded, her eyes flickering slightly.

”Exchange zither skills?” Mu Lingyan frowned. She also knew how to play the zither, but compared to Su Wan and Lin Siyao, she was far inferior. Moreover, she didn’t want to waste her time and energy on zither skills; her main focus was practicing Martial Arts.

”Sister Lin has a lot of free time normally, but you’re also quite idle.”

”I just like it,” Su Wan said straightforwardly. However, she didn’t plan to tell her older cousin about her future specialization in the Zither Dao just yet. Without any results, it would be easy to face obstruction. She would wait until she achieved minor success...

”I won’t control you, but you need to know your priorities. Don’t be too playful,” Mu Lingyan warned. As her maternal uncle’s daughter and her biological cousin, she still felt the need to show concern and keep an eye on her.

”I know, I know. I won’t,” Su Wan nodded repeatedly. She was sixteen years old now and had already reached the High Tier Eighth Grade, which wasn’t considered slow.

”By the way,” Mu Lingyan suddenly looked at Su Wan, ”Have you heard about Lu Yuan killing five Seventh Grade martial artists?”

”Five! Seventh Grade? Lu Yuan? Cousin, you’re not joking, are you?” Su Wan’s mouth fell open in astonishment. She hadn’t heard a thing. Lu Yuan’s cultivation was only at the Eighth Grade...

”This is an internal matter within the Demon Suppression Bureau. It’s perfectly normal that you wouldn’t know if you didn’t ask,” Mu Lingyan waved her hand. She also had informants within the Demon Suppression Bureau. She had given them instructions previously, and they had suddenly come to report to her yesterday. She then asked her younger brother, Mu Lingche, and got it confirmed.

”R-really? This...” Su Wan found it unbelievable. How was that possible? She hadn’t noticed at all. She previously knew that Lu Yuan’s Archery Skill was formidable and his Sound Dao talent was high, but...

”There’s no mistake.” Mu Lingyan’s eyes flickered with complexity. Even she probably couldn’t handle five Seventh Grade martial artists at once. She couldn’t figure it out, even though she had already understood the details clearly.

”Cousin... why are you paying so much attention to Lu Yuan?” Su Wan asked curiously.

”Can’t I? It’s all because of Sister Lin...” Mu Lingyan frowned. ”Lu Yuan is getting stranger and stranger. His strength is increasing rather abnormally.”

”Lu Yuan has the Lin Family’s resources, as well as the Demon Suppression Bureau’s. Furthermore, I heard he has also learned the Weapon-Forging Skill,” Su Wan didn’t find it surprising. As she had said before, the Lin Family was very powerful, and Aunt Song was a Great Alchemist.

”Weapon-forging... I heard about that. At some point, he and Yan Qing, the genius artisan of the Demon Suppression Bureau’s workshop, became fellow disciples. This Yan Qing’s background is quite mysterious. I actually couldn’t find anything about him; his information has been classified.” Mu Lingyan suspected that Lu Yuan’s changes started with the Weapon-Forging Sect. Because she knew the Lin Family had previously looked down on Lu Yuan and hadn’t given him any special care or resources.

However, any branch of the Weapon-Forging Sect with a heritage of Spiritual Weapon techniques would have a profound foundation, lacking neither secret arts nor resources. If he had another great master to guide him and impart skills... The ultimate goal might be the Lin Family!

”Sister Lin has no interest, and Little Ninth has no intention either. I think you should stop trying to play matchmaker for them, Cousin. You’ve already offended Lu Yuan to the core,” Su Wan reminded her.

”Offended to the core? As if I care about him?” Mu Lingyan’s eyebrows raised slightly. She was the Lady of the Marquis Mansion; would she be afraid of someone from a small Seventh-Grade Family?

”By offending Lu Yuan, you are offending Sister Lin, and by offending Sister Lin, you are offending the Lin Family. You don’t realize that the Lin Family and Aunt Song have completely approved of Lu Yuan now,” Su Wan warned.

”Completely approved? Impossible! How can Lu Yuan compare to our Mu Family?” Mu Lingyan refused to believe it.

”You...” Su Wan hesitated, stopping herself from speaking. She wanted to say that Lu Yuan was a prodigy of the Sound Dao, but on second thought, she decided to let it go. Once her older cousin made up her mind about something, it wasn’t easily changed.

”What were you thinking?” Mu Lingyan’s curiosity was already piqued.

”Lu Yuan is actually quite a nice person,” Su Wan replied.

”Nice? Heh, Su Wan, how long has it been, and you’ve already been bought off by Lu Yuan?” Mu Lingyan raised an eyebrow, sneering. ”Wanwan, you are the Miss of the Grand General’s Mansion. Don’t be so naive!”

”Cousin, you...” Su Wan shook her head. Her cousin was clearly obsessed and somewhat unreasonable.

”Wanwan, what do you think if I find a woman to seduce Lu Yuan? Will he take the bait?” Mu Lingyan suddenly said.

”Cousin, what are you saying? You absolutely must not do that!” Su Wan’s expression changed. This was too despicable. Was this something a normal person would do?

”You don’t think it’ll work? I think it will work just fine. I’ll find someone enchanting, charming, and sexy to take the initiative and seduce him. I refuse to believe Lu Yuan can control himself,” Mu Lingyan pondered. She had been harboring this thought for several days now, and the more she thought about it, the more feasible it seemed.

”You’re just looking for trouble!” Su Wan decisively rejected the idea. ”Lu Yuan has such a beautiful fiancée in Sister Lin; how could ordinary beauties catch his eye? Furthermore, he’s engrossed in cultivation, so he should like women with profound Martial Arts...”

”There are plenty of stunning beauties in the Jade Capital. Finding someone with profound Martial Arts won’t be hard either,” Mu Lingyan said, brimming with confidence. ”As long as I want to, I can easily find eight or ten.”

”She would also have to be young! Would someone who meets all these conditions be an ordinary person? Would she completely listen to you? And what happens afterward? Will Lu Yuan just let it go?” Su Wan questioned. It wasn’t that simple; there were too many uncontrollable factors. Furthermore, she highly suspected that even if they succeeded, given Lu Yuan’s talent and brilliance in the Sound Dao, that woman would probably be utterly captivated in no time and then decisively betray Mu Lingyan.

When that time came, Mu Lingyan would be in deep trouble. By offending Lu Yuan, the prodigy of the Sound Dao, as well as the Lin Family, Mu Lingyan would definitely be unable to withstand the backlash, and her ending would be miserable.

”She doesn’t necessarily have to be young. Mature women have their own mature charm... Or I could pick a few different types and try them all. I already have a plan!” Mu Lingyan dropped the carriage window curtain and ordered the driver to depart.

”Cousin, you... you will regret this!” Su Wan shouted.

”I won’t!” Mu Lingyan sneered from inside the carriage. ”I, Mu Lingyan, will absolutely never regret it!”

In the Fourth Ring of the Jade Capital.

Wang Zhong, having disguised himself, walked into a general store.

”What would you like to buy, customer?” a clerk wearing a hat asked with a smile from behind the counter.

”The bronze mirror at home isn’t reflecting anymore, so I want to buy a silver one,” Wang Zhong replied, his gaze sweeping around casually.

”A silver mirror? That won’t be cheap,” the clerk smiled.

”Not cheap? I have plenty of money! Is eighty taels enough?” Wang Zhong extended five fingers, showing both the front and the back of his hand.

”Enough, enough. Let’s talk inside.” The clerk hurriedly invited Wang Zhong into the back room.

”Taiyin Nether Emperor, the Netherworld is our home; Guipo shines down, ferrying me across the abyss of tribulations!”

The pitch-black room was devoid of a single flicker of lamplight. There was only an eerie voice echoing out, as if it had come from the Netherworld.

”I am the Taiyin Nether Envoy. State your purpose.”

”Your Mr. Ninth was killed by a young man from the Demon Suppression Bureau. It was also him and his father, Lu Ming, who reported the information up the chain. Then, the Demon Suppression Bureau mobilized and wiped out the majority of your esteemed cult’s personnel in the Jade Capital...” Wang Zhong said, lowering his voice.

”Lu Ming and Lu Yuan. I know of them!”
