Chapter 1547: Wendy’s Order

Conrad had finally returned from the expedition. His expression had been grim the whole time.

In front of him stood Wendy, Duke Lorelei, and Marquis Nardt.

Marquis Nardt stood up. ”Marshal Conrad. I’m glad to see you return from the expedition. It was a big victory. However, why would you ask all of us to be present here?”

Conrad first politely lowered his head to Wendy. ”Your Majesty. May I be heard?”

”Of course.” Wendy nodded. ”I would like to hear the report about the expedition, Marshal. So, the Ardagan family was overwhelming?”

Conrad fell silent for a moment before saying, ”The Ardagan family... almost lost.”

”!!!” They suddenly widened their eyes.

”This is everything I know so far.” Conrad started to recount the expedition from the beginning.

He made sure that they understood the situation and the fact that the enemy almost crushed them with the sudden appearance of the sky demon king. No one would expect the demon king to appear in this place.

They were actually helped by an unknown reinforcement coming from the north. There was even another reinforcement from a mercenary that was based in the Greenwood Kingdom.

It was confusing at first, considering no one knew that Luke Ardagan and Leysha Ezenholm were still alive. And they were the ones behind the mercenaries.

However, they thought of it only as a show of Noel’s genius. He orchestrated the mercenaries, bringing them from the Greenwood Kingdom to avoid the eyes of the Muivell Kingdom.

That was what made it unexpected.

Nevertheless, they managed to defeat the enemy. And the biggest factor was none other than Oscar.

That was right. If Oscar weren’t there, the result would be unpredictable. It could be said that Oscar was Noel’s biggest trump card on this expedition.

However, it also showed that if not for stretching his hands and increasing his cards, Noel would have been the one losing to them.

The atmosphere in the room became heavy.

Wendy took a deep breath before asking, ”There were... two demon kings?”

”Yes, Your Majesty.” Conrad nodded. ”Noel Ardagan considered the demon king that took over the body of the former third prince as the ’Land Demon King,’ while the one that suddenly came into the picture was called the ’Sky Demon King.’

”Apparently, both of them were the ones who fought the great general, Alexander Ardagan, one thousand years ago.”

Gulp!

”Marshal... What do you think about their strength?” Wendy’s expression turned grim.

”If I have to be honest...” Conrad smiled wryly. ”Two or three attacks... That’s the limit before I die in their hands. And that’s after using my True Spirit Body.

”Without another spirit king, it is practically impossible to stop them. I’m sure Your Majesty still remembers the exchange between the grand duke and me and Duke Lorelei.”

”Indeed.”

”Then, you can consider that the grand duke was still holding back his power at that time. If he wanted to, he could unleash something two or even three times more powerful. And it wasn’t their limit because I didn’t see the demon king or the grand duke using the berserk or the True Spirit Body yet.”

”...” They were speechless. They thought Noel’s strength was already at its peak, but it turned out they were wrong.

Noel was much stronger than what they had seen. More importantly, the demon king possessed the same level of power.

It looked like they had to reconsider everything. This wasn’t the kind of power they could underestimate any longer.

”So, what do you think we are supposed to do, Marshal Conrad?”

Conrad shook his head helplessly. ”We could do nothing other than prepare. If Noel Ardagan and the demon kings could go on a path of mutual destruction, it would be good. But judging from the situation, it might not go there entirely.

”On the other hand, if one side won, we couldn’t do anything. Right now, the only right thing to do is to stand by the side of the grand duke. With him leading the humans, we stand a chance of resisting the demon kings.

”However, if we don’t stand by his side, the grand duke might still be able to win by using a trick or two. Just like how he managed to pull out reinforcements from the Greenwood Kingdom, he might have another trick up his sleeve.

”And at that time, the people would scrutinize us as the government that didn’t care that humanity was tarnished by the demons.”

Wendy pinched the bridge of her nose. It wouldn’t be an easy decision, especially for national security.

She had decided to be on the same side, but she couldn’t provide full support. After all, this place required security as well.

But it looked like Conrad didn’t just bring the bad news.

”Still, the target of this expedition turned out to be someone else. It was good that we could finally see the power of a demon king, but the target was actually the Space Arbiter, Josephine.”

”!!!” Wendy widened her eyes. ”What did you say?”

”The target was Josephine. With the demons not being able to take advantage of her space element anymore, we could become a bit bolder. And from what I heard, Josephine was in the hands of the Demon Banner Army. It looked like they were going to execute her.”

Without Josephine, there would be less danger in the capital city. This was definitely good news.

Wendy turned to Duke Lorelei. ”If Josephine is executed...”

Duke Lorelei nodded. ”The arbiters can join the battle, Your Majesty. I will leave behind two arbiters for your protection. The remaining arbiters will join the fight on the front line.”

Wendy took a moment to figure out what they should do. She picked up the feather pen and wrote down an order.

”Marshal. I would like you to do another thing for me. I’m sorry for making you do this after you just returned, but...” Wendy rushed in writing and revealed what she was planning. It was a dismissal notice for Josephine.

”My father never formally dismissed her. This will be enough to strip her of her title and show our stance in this war against demons.”

Conrad bent his knees. ”I accept the order.”
