System vs Rebirth

Chapter 1540: Second Objective

The clash between the two sides continued fiercely. Neither side planned to let the other side get an opportunity to defeat them.

For Noel, a defeat meant losing everything. With the loss of his army, the blow would be so massive that even if he gathered everything he had, the enemies would definitely overrun him.

For the demon kings, losing this battle meant Noel would get the upper hand against them during the final clash.

Noel would also fully recover from his condition, which allowed him to manifest a power that could rival the demon kings. No, he might even surpass his ancestor.

That was why Noel had to die in this place. However, the situation had become trickier than before.

The royal army had finally arrived. Although they had to clash with the demon army in the south, the army was divided into two. The second army was marching toward this place, assisting the Ardagan family. This way, the pressure on both sides was relieved, allowing the first army of the Ardagan family to maintain their position.

However, both Noel and the demon kings knew that the real deciding factor was not Anna, Noel, the demon kings, or any spirit transcendence experts on this battlefield.

The real deciding factor was none other than Josephine.

Yes, she possessed the rare space element. She was the only one who could create a portal. If she were on their side, she could transport the army to the designated position. If she were on the enemy side, she could flee or launch a sneak attack with the entire army.

That was why Josephine still remained on the base the whole time.

She looked at the entire situation.

ʼThere are two demon kings indeed. However, it doesnʼt look like they have a lot of advantages. The clash will probably last for a long time unless something changes.

ʼOn the other side of the hill, the Ardagan family held on. Due to the pincer attack from the royal army and the Ardagan familyʼs other army, the pressure has disappeared. At this rate, the demons will start losing their advantage.ʼ

Josephine could see that the first army focused on the front. Their backs had been covered by the airships, so once they broke through and turned around, the demons would find themselves getting encircled.

”ʼMaʼam! The Ardagan family is closing in.” A devil inspector alerted her.

Noel had sent Lucas and his division to break through the maze and capture the people from the Supreme Devil Organization.

However, the resistance was fierce. After all, Josephine had formed two portals by her side as demons continued to go through.

She was using those demons to stop the advance of the army, but it didnʼt look to be working.

Lucasʼ army could be said to be the most aggressive army in the Ardagan family due to their job maintaining the border.

As a result, they annihilated the demons in their way and continued forward. However, the number of demons was so high that they needed a lot of time to get here.

Even though there was already a warning, Josephine knew that the enemy still needed thirty minutes to even reach here. The closer he was to this place, the fiercer the resistance after all.

And a lot of things could happen during those thirty minutes.

Josephine asked, ”How about their rear?”

”Itʼs not good either. The enemy has left behind a thousand soldiers to guard the entrance. In other words, itʼs impossible to enter the cave from behind.”

”...” Josephine was quite impressed because Lucas seemed to know how to operate not only against the demons but also against humans.

With this, she couldnʼt hit him from the back either.

ʼThe demon king once said I should wait here and find an opportunity. If the army gets weakened, I should crush them. If those monsters are weakened, I should help. As long as we can destroy one key, the rest will crumble.

ʼBut nothing is progressing smoothly. The Ardagan family is stronger than we expected.ʼ

Josephine squinted her eyes. ʼShould I use my teleportation to get the ancient demons in the north to come here and mess the situation around?

”If I do that, I might end up intervening in the battle of the spirit transcendence experts on their side. I might end up dying in one way or another…ʼ

Josephine was in a dilemma. On the one hand, she had to do something to turn around the situation. On the other hand, she remembered what had happened the last time she had intervened.

The memory of her almost dying just from the residual attack from Noel was still fresh in her mind.

So, Josephine didnʼt know what she should do at this point.

ʼI guess I should wait a bit more. There will definitely be a time when they lower their guard. Or should I make the gap myself?ʼ Josephine squinted her eyes. The easiest option would be to create a portal and launch an ambush on Lucasʼ back.

There was no need for an ancient demon. As long as they were distracted, the members of the supreme devil organizations should have had no trouble in breaking through their ranks.

If they collapsed, she could destroy the Ardagan familyʼs army.

Josephine found no big flaws in her plan. Even if it failed, she could keep Lucas busy. In the worst-case scenario, she could still escape safely.

Hence, Josephine teleported outside the hill, using the people of the Supreme Devil Organization as bait. As long as Lucas continued to aim for them, he wouldnʼt know that she was already outside.

”Letʼs get started, shall we?” Josephine waved her scythe, slitting the air.

The air then opened up as though it were human skin. It was wide open and expanded greatly, allowing demons of various sides to come out.

Unfortunately for her, she never realized that the second objective of this expedition was actually her.

Yes, now that Noel had secured the first one, the second objective had to be accomplished.

A stern voice echoed from the air.

”Stop!”

The shout was unlike any other. It contained spiritual energy that somehow restricted her entire body.

”!!!” Josephine widened her eyes in shock, not expecting another variable.
