Chapter 1518: The Secret of the Box

Now that the giant war machine called the Ardagan family had taken shape, it was time for them to go to war with the demons.

However, before Noel began the expedition, there was one thing he had to do.

Noel and Anna were sitting in their room, staring at the black box that Alexander Ardagan had once left behind.

Ever since he became a spirit king, he had been too busy to open this box. Originally, it was a box that could make him realize his king path, but it was much more than that.

Inside the box contained something important, according to Ardagan.

”It looks like it’s time to unbox it,” muttered Noel. ”Ardagan. You don’t know what’s inside this box?”

[No. I was not with Alexander all the time. So, I didn’t know anything about this box or what it contained. All he told me was that this box contained something important.]

Anna asked, ”Should I really be here? This is a box that can only be opened by a spirit king, right? While I do have some understanding of the king path, I’m still not at that level.”

”It is fine. While this box is important, it shouldn’t affect your path.” Noel shook his head, reassuring her.

”I understand.” Anna nodded.

”In that case, let’s begin.” Noel placed his hand on the box and closed his eyes. He began pouring his spiritual energy carefully.

The spiritual energy Noel possessed was much tougher and more robust than what he had a few months ago. It was because he changed the characteristics of the spiritual energy itself.

This spiritual energy flowed into the box swiftly. At the same time, it managed to retain its strength.

Of course, Noel got resistance from the box, which prevented him from going forward. If he were still a spirit transcendence, he wouldn’t be able to pass this area.

However, he simply changed the property of his spiritual energy one more time, making it suitable for this kind of channel.

As a result, the spiritual energy continued.

He had to change the spiritual energy a few more times before he could feel a kind of gate, which was similar to the mechanism inside a lock.

The solution was rather simple. He pushed forward from the bottom and lifted them up one by one. The clacking sound echoed from the inside.

After lifting up the third gate, something suddenly clicked.

”!!!” Noel and Anna raised their eyebrows.

The left side of the box was suddenly propelled outward, creating a small opening like a sliding door.

Noel and Anna exchanged looks before nodding their heads. Noel slid the small opening as a broken jade came out of the box.

”This is...” Noel and Anna didn’t know what this jade was. In fact, why would Noel’s ancestor call this broken jade important?

The only person who recognized this jade was Ardagan.

[So, that’s how it is.]

”What’s wrong, Ardagan? Do you know anything?” Noel asked.

[This is the jade of immortality.]

”What? Jade of immortality?” Noel was shaken. How could this broken jade turn out to be the jade of immortality?

”Isn’t the jade of immortality supposed to be in the supreme devil’s hand?”

Anna tilted her head in confusion, not understanding anything. ”I can’t hear you, Ardagan. But can you explain what’s going on?”

[From the looks of it, the supreme devil has indeed taken the jade of immortality. However, that’s not the entire situation.]

[The jade of immortality will allow one to become immortal. However, the process of immortality is different from what you imagine.]

[What the jade makes immortal is your soul. In other words, your body will still die, and you have no choice but to search for another body.]

[According to Laufey, there was a corpse in their headquarters, which had been moved somewhere. That corpse must be Spencer.]

[I’m not entirely sure how the jade broke, but I’m sure Alex was not involved. It might be Spencer’s idea.]

[He broke the jade of immortality and sent one piece to Alex, which he sealed here.]

[The other was embedded in his body. By sealing the jade of immortality with his curse, the jade of immortality’s power would be linked to that curse.]

[In other words, whenever the supreme devil wanted to reincarnate, he would go through Spencer, who ended up receiving that curse, before getting reborn.]

Noel shook his head. ”Sorry, Ardagan. I don’t understand. How does the jade work? Can you tell me about that first?”

[It will be simple. You are sealing your soul inside the jade of immortality, which will nourish your soul forever, and that’s how immortality begins. Still, you need to find a host if you want to continue living like a human. The jade of immortality will transfer your soul to a new body. Because of the nourishment, you should be able to retain a certain level of your power.]

[People can use this in an ethical way, such as entering a death-row criminal’s body or through a certain contract, but the supreme devil must have killed a person to enter their body.]

[Hence, Spencer broke the jade into two. The first one was hidden in this box, which couldn’t be found. The second one was in his body.]

[Spencer would use that piece of jade to nourish his soul to make his curse last forever. On the other hand, the supreme devil wanted to reincarnate.]

[To acquire this, the supreme devil worked together with the demon king. The demon king wanted the nourishment power of this jade, while the supreme devil wanted the reincarnation power.]

[But Spencer destroyed their plan by himself.]

[This must be why the demon king was so annoyed that someone took his stash of demon crystals for him to recover. The demon king knew that because of Spencer, he couldn’t rely on the jade anymore.]

[Hence, when Anna took that treasure trove filled with demon crystals, the demon king’s plan fell apart.]

[At the same time, because he had embedded this jade into his body, Spencer could leave a curse whenever the supreme devil reincarnated, since he had no choice but to go through him first.]

[That was why the supreme devil couldn’t kill you during the first encounter. So, he had to cultivate his power from the beginning while trying to fight against the curse.]

[It could be said that Spencer single-handedly overthrew both the demon king and the supreme devil’s plan.]

”!!!”
