System vs Rebirth

Chapter 1520: My Brother’s Heart

[As much as I would like to have it, I donʼt think I should, Master. You should give this jade to your wife. This jade is the last piece she needs to be reborn.]

”!!!”

The moment he heard it, Noel couldnʼt help but widen his eyes in shock. ”What are you talking about?”

Even Anna was startled by the sudden reaction from Noel. Noel was surprised a couple of times, but this one looked different. For some reason, Noel sounded irritated.

”Noel?” Anna frowned. ”Whatʼs going on?”

Noel looked at Anna with his mouth open. He wanted to say it, but for some reason, his mouth didnʼt.

In the end, this might realize the planned goal Anna had.

That was right. Anna wanted to give the body back to the original Anna Stargaze. The original Anna Stargaze had been staying inside her sword this whole time.

Hence, Anna planned to occupy a homunculus and return this body to the original Anna.

On the other hand, Ardagan was the last link he might need to kill those enemies. And the jade would be the key to that success.

Yet, Ardagan claimed that this was the way to accomplish Annaʼs goal.

It was no wonder Noel sounded so frustrated.

Noel gritted his teeth. He didnʼt want to say it, but if Anna knew, she would definitely say, ʼDo it!ʼ

[Master. I donʼt need it. You should use this soul to cherish your wife. Iʼm now a part of you, so you donʼt have to do anything else for me.]

Noel shook his head helplessly. On one side, it was his partner, the partner that had gone through numerous life-and-death battles with him. It was because of this partner that Noel could reach this far. On the other side, there was his wife.

Noel clenched his fists.

”Noel! Talk to me. Whatʼs going on?” Anna held his hand, wondering what kind of thing Ardagan had told him that could lead to this kind of reaction.

Noel hesitated for another few seconds before thinking about another possibility. ”Thatʼs right. There is the second piece of the jade. We can still recover from that!”

[I donʼt know if itʼs possible. Since their plan has failed, the moment they free themselves from the curse, they will destroy it.]

[Judging by their strength now, Iʼm sure that the curse is almost solved. Thatʼs why I donʼt recommend it and consider half of the jade to have been destroyed.]

Noel shook his head. He couldnʼt do it. He couldnʼt sacrifice either of them.

”NOEL!” Anna raised her voice, startling Noel.

She grabbed his cheeks and turned his head toward hers. ”Whatʼs going on? Tell me, or Iʼm going to get angry! This is the first time youʼve acted this way.

”I donʼt know what youʼre struggling with if you donʼt share it with me. Am I so unreliable to you? You have been wishing for us not to become like your ancestors.

”Thatʼs why I have been training hard to keep up with you. I donʼt want to be useless.”

Noel was taken aback. He could see Anna tearing up as if she was disappointed in him… She was disappointed that Noel placed so little trust in her to know whatever conversation they had.

At the same time, her face actually gave him another idea, albeit the idea would also force him to give up something.

Noel took a deep breath before saying with a solemn tone. ”Lend me the compass.”

[No! Master!]

Ardagan was the one reacting to Noelʼs decision. Noel didnʼt want anything to do with the compass.

Even though the compass was in Annaʼs possession, she hadnʼt used it the whole time. It was because she respected his choice too.

But Noel had made his decision.

”Please lend me the compass, Anna. I will tell you everything.” Noel was practically begging her.

Anna didnʼt understand what was going on, but since Noel planned to tell her everything, she hurriedly walked away to grab the compass.

Ardagan was trying to stop Anna, but there was nothing she could do. All his words were seen only by Noel, who ignored his messages.

It took Anna only a moment to return with the compass in her hand. This was one of the five divine artifacts used to lead someone to the thing they desired.

When Noel was about to grab the compass, Anna pulled it back and demanded, ”Before giving this to you, I want to know the truth. I know how much you dislike the compass, so I know whatever youʼre going to do, itʼs not something that I can ignore.”

Noel closed his eyes for a moment before explaining, ”The jade of immortality. It links directly to your goal, which is to return that body to Anna.” Noel glanced at her sword.

”!!!” Anna also looked at the original Anna. ”What do you mean?”

Noel didnʼt even need Ardagan to understand what would happen to their souls, especially after listening to everything he had said about the demon scheme.

”If the body has been prepared, Andreas can definitely help your spirit to move from this body to the homunculus body. Then, Anna Stargaze can return to her original body.

”This is the original plan, but doing it is easier said than done. The demon king and the supreme devil have been taking advantage of the jade to help their souls. After all, thatʼs the original use of the jade.

”Thatʼs why Anna Stargaze might be fine after returning to her original body, but my wife…” Noel looked at Anna with a sad expression. ”My wife will suffer a major backlash because you have to strip yourself of the power that your current body possesses.

”To avoid that drawback, we have to use the jade like the supreme devil and the demon king. No, we will even use it as a container of your soul.

”We can do it with this jade here, but…” Noel paused for a moment. ”The demon king has shattered Ardaganʼs heart, his magic stone… And that half-jade will be able to replace his heart…

”... my brotherʼs heart.”
