Global Lords: Me and My Calabash Kiddos

Chapter 66: Chapter 58: Special Circumstances for Mercenaries

”There won’t be wild beasts showing up, right? If you run into a fierce beast, just eat it?”

Yi Tian thought to himself.

But after thinking it through, that’s pretty unlikely. For a long time in the future, I’m guessing there won’t be any fierce beast invasions.

Fierce beasts only come to deliver meat to most Lords.

Inside the auction house, vegetables and grain seeds are all sold out.

Not enough time since entering the Celestial Dao World—most Lords didn’t manage to stock up on seeds.

The seeds carrying the hope for what’s next—now you can’t buy them no matter what.

Maybe some quick-handed Lord is camping the seed section, paying a huge price to snatch some.

Yi Tian has plenty of seeds, but he’s not planning to sell right now.

Judging from the situation, food shortage is pretty much inevitable.

Just waiting to see when the food crisis explodes.

All Yi Tian has to do is plant all fifteen thousand acres and use the Rain Beast Core.

Stockpile tens of millions of kilos of grain, and get stupid rich overnight.

For stuff like water purifiers, even if you sell them at a high price, the Lords just won’t buy.

But if food costs a lot, Lords have no choice but to buy.

”Shit, how are your livestock doing? I checked mine just now, and my cows are sick, the ducks all listless—like they could drop dead any minute.” The zone chat is still scrolling; one Lord’s words draw everyone’s attention.

A lot of Lords are discussing, putting their livestock in the safest spots possible.

Some Lords predict unknown fierce beasts will show up at night, snatching away their poultry and livestock.

Compared to fierce beasts, even a grown bull is as fragile as a baby.

After that chat message popped up, the zone channel went way quieter for the next three minutes.

When Lords checked on their own animals, morale sunk again.

”Great, all my livestock have droopy heads too.”

”Damn it, before the locust swarm hit, my chickens and ducks were bouncing around; now they’re just lying on the ground, can barely even move.”

”Trash Celestial Dao, just kill us already.”

”Any chance they’ll recover? It’s not bird flu or some other contagious disease, right?” Black Stone Star Human Race Shan Dashan.

”This sucks! Completely wiped out. What’s the point of Celestial Dao Coin? Can’t buy shit to eat.”

”Seriously! Even worse than when we first came to our territory. Who dares eat these animals now?”

”Everyone probably has at least some food stashed away—just ration it. When the next wave of fierce beasts shows up, we’ll be out of this hole. We’ve got water in our territories, roots, tree bark, bugs, and everyone’s got at least fifty attribute points—how could we starve to death?” Earth Human Race Yi Tian.

”Yi Tian bro, don’t you have any aquatic products?” Black Stone Star Human Race Shan Dashan.

”Don’t talk about it, won’t be long before we’re literally eating dirt.” Earth Human Race Yi Tian.

After sending that message, Yi Tian asked Liyue, just back from the grasslands, ”How’re my cows, sheep, and chickens?”

For Yi Tian, these cows, sheep, chickens are pretty optional—just a bit more comfort.

”Seems like they’re all sick. But my spirit wine cures all diseases, can give it a shot.” Liyue said to Yi Tian.

”I see you’ve only got a little Hundred Flowers Spirit Wine. We’ve got a lot of livestock.” Yi Tian asked.

Liyue had spent a whole day collecting dew, and still hadn’t brewed even a mouthful of Hundred Flowers Spirit Wine.

This time it looks like the livestock got sick because the locusts brought a virus.

Whether or not the locusts are killed off, the virus spreads in the animals anyway.

”Spirit wine brewed from B-level or A-level Spirit Flowers is really pure—can dilute it with water.” Liyue replied.

”Alright, give it a shot! If they don’t recover, we’ll have to ditch them.” Yi Tian still left the matter to Liyue.

In Yi Tian’s flock, there are one hundred and fifty hens. And they’re all about to start laying eggs.

Yi Tian heard Lords in the chat say, in this world, hens lay two eggs a day.

Yi Tian was already thinking about cooking eggs for the Kiddos.

Even if it fails, it only costs a few drops of Hundred Flowers Spirit Wine.

After Yi Tian updated his Mercenary status, he sent a message to the Queen of the Three-Eyed One-Horned Tribe.

Yi Tian planned to buy some grain and stock up, to sell later at a high price.

Even if they’re enemies, Yi Tian figures he has something that can tempt the Three-Eyed One-Horned Tribe.

Like Spirit Fruit!

”Detected generation of Celestial Beast and Summer Beast in the district. Summer Beast has Special Talent: prohibits all Lords from trading or messaging with outside Indigenous People.”

This message from the Celestial Dao Stone made Yi Tian go silent for a long while.

Eventually, Yi Tian let out a slow breath.

Yi Tian knew, this wasn’t aimed at him—it’s against all Lords.

In Celestial Dao World, lots of Lords can contact Native Tribes.

If they could snag food from the Natives, they’d soon have more wealth than Yi Tian.

”Mercenary System Alert: An employer has posted a task. Mission: cut down a Fragrant Birch Tree. Accept?”

Yi Tian got the prompt and was stunned for a second.

But quickly, Yi Tian guessed who the employer was.

It’s that Female Elf from yesterday, who wants to invite him to her territory.

Yi Tian opened the Mercenary System—in this status, he can send a message to the employer.

Usually, you send this message when the task is tough and you want more pay!

Say, Yi Tian lists a task at 10,000 Celestial Dao Coin per mission.

Sometimes, a Lord wants Yi Tian to deal with two, or even three C-level fierce beasts. If Yi Tian thinks 10,000 Celestial Dao Coin isn’t enough, he’ll ask for more.

The employer, as long as they’re cool with delays, can negotiate with the Mercenary.

Yi Tian’s always done the tasks for the count—no matter how many beasts, no extra charge.

”Make sure to check the Mercenary Manual! If any employer scams me and I lose Mercenary status, I’ll kill them.” Yi Tian sent that message over.

If Yi Tian’s tricked into a territory without any real problems, he can call it fraud and, on the grounds of fake info, legally kill the employer.

But having the Female Elf order him to chop trees isn’t fake info—in the Mercenary Manual, that’s ”malicious task completion farming,” and the punishment is the Mercenary can’t take tasks for a whole month.

Yi Tian didn’t know, but his words really scared the Female Elf—she frantically flipped through the Mercenary Manual. After reading it thoroughly, she felt guilty as hell, and didn’t dare bother Second Under Heaven again.

But every day, she’d peek to see if Second Under Heaven was still around.

By dusk, Yi Tian had completed six tasks: two C-level, three D-level, and one E-level.

All of them were fierce beast and slave suppression missions. Super easy.

Net gain: 60,000 Celestial Dao Coin.

Yi Tian’s total mission count hit 177.

”Lord, after those animals drank water mixed with Hundred Flowers Spirit Wine, they all perked up. By now, every single one has recovered.”

Qixin dashed happily into the villa to report to Yi Tian.

”Nice, good job!” Yi Tian nodded, looking at Qixin with some surprise—this girl was suddenly way more proactive than before.

Qixin and Liyue were born together. One looks mature, the other fresh-faced. One is outgoing, one is quiet.

Qixin blushed the moment she was stared at, ducked her head, and didn’t dare look at Yi Tian again.

”After this locust disaster, there are way fewer bugs on our grassland. Two hundred native chickens—food might be tight. Prep some grain to feed them later. Hmm, Little White’s got nothing to do—just put a bag of feed on Little White’s back and have it deliver.” Yi Tian was about to tease Qixin, but seeing how thin-skinned she was, he skipped it and just gave her a task.

”I can do it myself, no need to trouble Little White.” Qixin’s the type, she’d never dare order Little White around.

”Little White!” Yi Tian called outside the villa.

Little White, who’d been napping under the Black Gold Apple Tree, perked up, bolted into the villa hall.

Just now, Little White was dreaming it’d gotten promoted to Divine Beast, secured the top henchman spot under its master. Howling Moon Silver Wolf was massaging it, the Five Tiger Generals were carrying its sedan, and Eastsea Falcon was prepping a feast.

Waking up, Little White thought its master would give it some epic reward.

Instantly, stoked beyond words...

”Little White! You look bored out of your mind all day, must be lonely, right? Giving you a little job, so keep an eye on things.” Yi Tian saw Wind and Cloud White Tiger’s expectant face—pretended not to notice, and cut straight to the point.

”Roar...”

Little White was feeling bad, but still puffed up its chest and roared—a model worker.

”Good job, Little White, your awareness has really improved.” Yi Tian joked.

”From now on Qixin will prep a bag of feed—you just carry it every day and go feed the chickens.” Yi Tian told Little White.

”Roar...”

Little White couldn’t believe it—Wind and Cloud White Tiger, feeding chickens?

And not even high-level chickens—they’re native, low-IQ ones.

The shame of the Tiger Race!

”What, don’t wanna do it? Fine, I’ll give you a hundred acres outside the city, and get someone else to feed the chickens for you.” Yi Tian didn’t smile.

”Roar...”

Little White panicked. Farming? Since when do tigers do that? It quickly signaled that feeding chickens was its favorite thing ever.

”Alright! Qixin, prep a bag of feed and stick it on Little White’s back.” Yi Tian nodded to Qixin.

Qixin nervously glanced at Little White, then dashed off.

”Mercenary System Alert: Employer has posted a task—eliminate the invading Lord in the territory; three-dimensional unknown, estimated mid-level C. Accept?”

Yi Tian suddenly got this task—pretty surprising.

Are they invading with a Mist Scroll?

Yi Tian didn’t accept right away—he wanted more pay. So he messaged the employer: ”Once I eliminate the Lord, I get their Celestial Dao Stone.”

A few seconds later, Celestial Dao Stone prompt: ”Employer has agreed to Mercenary’s terms.”

”Accept task.”

After gearing up with the Dragon Bow and Longsword, Yi Tian gripped his Celestial Dao Stone and teleported.

The next moment, Yi Tian appeared in a small grassland—at that point, two Lords were locked in fierce combat. A few slave corpses lay on the ground.

One Lord looked just like a Huaxia Human Race. The other had a wolf head and a human body.

The Wolf-headed Lord was holding a black iron rod—definitely a Divine Weapon. The employer held a D-level Long Spear.

The Wolf-headed Lord clearly had the edge.

The employer wasn’t lying—both are mid-level C, but the Wolf-headed Lord has about ten more attribute points than the Human Race guy. Three-dimensional stats should be around 350.

”Mercenary, help me!” The Human Race man yelled when he saw Yi Tian.

”Okay!”

Yi Tian drew his bow and nocked an arrow, aiming for the Wolf-headed Lord.

Just then, a flash of white light appeared.

Another Mercenary teleported onto the grassland—the Wolf-headed Lord, sensing things were going south, called in a Mercenary too.

While a Mercenary’s on a mission, neither Mercenary System nor Auction House works.

But if you’ve got a Mist Scroll, you still can.

Wolf-headed Lord’s strength isn’t hugely above the employer’s; seeing the employer bring a Mercenary, he sure wouldn’t just sit there and lose.

”I’m Mad Ape, doing this mission! Get lost!” As soon as that Mercenary arrived, he started yelling at Yi Tian to scram.

Mad Ape showing up—Yi Tian hadn’t expected it, but wasn’t too shocked; it’s a scenario listed in the Mercenary Manual as ”special situation.”

If that happens, you either just duck out quietly, put a blemish on your Mercenary record—

Or choose to keep going, and when two Mercs fight, one *will* lose.

Hell, the Wolf-headed Lord and the employer can even keep hiring more Mercenaries to join the fight.

But in cases like this, other Mercenaries usually won’t get involved.
