Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 378: Chapter 348: Seeing Sun Ruirui Again

In a discreet private room at a members-only club in Kansai City, Xiping Province, not far from Kansai Beast Taming University.

A middle-aged man in a white baseball cap looked at the mature woman sitting across from him. ”The Freshman Challenge is about to start. We can’t afford any mistakes this time.”

The mature woman wasn’t exceptionally beautiful, but she had a fantastic figure—curvy in all the right places—and possessed a certain allure.

She looked at the middle-aged man, took a sip of her coffee, and her red lips parted. ”Don’t worry. There won’t be any problems this time. I guarantee we’ll give them an experience they’ll never forget.”

The woman turned her head to gaze in a certain direction, a faint smile on her lips. ”For this operation, we’ve contacted the God-Worshiping Sect. Don’t forget, Kansai is their home turf.”

”I trust your arrangements. This time, they must witness the might of our Holy Teachings.” The middle-aged man’s tone was chilling. ”Right, I forgot to ask. Where is the venue for the Freshman Challenge? Have you scouted it out?”

The mature woman nodded. ”I’ve already looked into it. The Federation Government is being very bold this time. They’re actually holding it inside a Dimension Plane.”

”In that case, wouldn’t that make it easier for us to...” The middle-aged man couldn’t help but frown as he listened.

The words slipped out, but he stopped mid-sentence, realizing something was amiss.

’If the Federation Government dares to hold the competition inside a Dimension Plane, they can’t be unprepared.’

’The security might be stronger than they could possibly imagine.’

The mature woman was also puzzled, but she didn’t voice her confusion. Instead, she relayed the information she had gathered. ”The specific venue is supposed to be Mo Yuan City.”

The middle-aged man stroked his chin, a flicker of interest in his eyes. ”The Federation Government is holding it there? Interesting. I can’t wait to see those combat geniuses fall in agony.”

”Still, we can’t afford to be careless,” the middle-aged man continued, as if reminding himself. ”We’ve suffered quite a few setbacks over the last few years.”

After a moment of thought, he asked, ”How are things with our insider?”

”Don’t worry. We’ve had people in Mo Yuan City for a long time,” the mature woman said calmly.

The woman then asked, ”Divine Envoy, when the time comes, how will we lure away the Legend guarding Mo Yuan City?”

”You don’t need to worry about that. You’ll see when the time comes.” The middle-aged man gave a dry laugh. ”This time, we’re going for broke.”

...

”There it is, Kansai City in Xiping Province, home of Kansai Beast Taming University.” Li Qian, Fatty An, and Lu Tianjiao were riding in a hover taxi toward the university. As they neared their destination, Fatty An pointed at the magnificent gates ahead, his voice filled with excitement.

Li Qian patted Fatty An’s shoulder. ”Fatty An, instead of taking this chance to go home and relax, you came all this way.”

Fatty An chuckled, getting straight to the point. ”The Freshman Challenge is being held in Mo Yuan City this time, which is a rare opportunity. If I miss this, who knows when I’ll get another chance to set foot in a Dimension Plane.”

He wasn’t exaggerating.

At his Power Level, it was almost impossible for him to earn an Adventurer’s Badge before graduation.

Li Qian knew what Fatty An was after and shook his head with a sigh. ”Tickets for this Freshman Challenge aren’t cheap, you know.”

”It’s fine. My old man can afford it,” Fatty An said nonchalantly. ”Of course, that’s all secondary. The main reason is to cheer you on.”

Li Qian shot a sidelong glance at Fatty An after his grand declaration. ”I’m not in the combat competition. My event is a nurturing showcase. There’s no danger whatsoever.”

”Well, I can cheer for Brother Tianjiao, too,” Fatty An said, turning his attention to Lu Tianjiao.

Lu Tianjiao, sitting in the front seat, turned around and gave Fatty An a thumbs-up, flashing two rows of pearly whites.

”My man, you’ve got good taste,” the guy said shamelessly.

Li Qian just smiled faintly. ’These two really are two of a kind, thick as thieves.’

Their personalities were a perfect match; they’d hit it off the moment they met, practically ready to become sworn brothers.

Just as the two were bantering, Li Qian’s phone suddenly rang.

He took out his phone and a look of surprise crossed his face. ’Hm? Why is she calling me now?’

”Who is it?” Fatty An and Lu Tianjiao instantly turned into a curious audience, their faces full of nosy anticipation.

Their intuition told them it was probably a girl.

Those two rascals were always most interested in this sort of thing.

Li Qian shot them an annoyed look, then turned away to answer the phone. ”Hello? Ruirui... What? You’re in Kansai City? I assume you’re here for the Freshman Challenge, too?”

”Where? Right at the main entrance of Kansai Beast Taming University... Okay, I’ll wait for you here!”

”...”

A moment later, Li Qian hung up.

The call had been from Sun Ruirui. She had also come to participate in the Freshman Challenge at Kansai Beast Taming University.

Since they hadn’t seen each other in a while, Li Qian had arranged to meet her at the university’s main gate.

”Ruirui... who’s Ruirui?” The moment he hung up, Fatty An started in with a teasing, suggestive tone.

”She’s a friend I met while traveling in Zhonghai City,” Li Qian explained briefly, clearly not intending to elaborate.

Lu Tianjiao, however, started to fill in the blanks himself. ”I know how it goes! First, you’re ’just friends,’ then you’re ’besties,’ and finally you’re ’babes’!”

”Don’t apply your playbook to me. We’re just friends,” Li Qian said, not bothering to argue.

Soon, the taxi pulled over to the curb in front of Kansai Beast Taming University’s main gate.

As they got out, a student immediately approached and asked if they were there for the Freshman Challenge.

Lu Tianjiao nodded, holding his head high.

Li Qian told them to go on ahead; he was going to wait by the entrance for a bit.

To wait for Sun Ruirui.

But as it turned out, neither Fatty An nor Lu Tianjiao had any intention of going inside. They both just planted themselves at the main gate, clearly ready to watch a good show.

Li Qian decided to just ignore them.

About half an hour later, another taxi pulled up to the curb.

A petite, adorable-looking girl and an Iceberg Beauty with long, slender legs and a high ponytail emerged from the taxi.

The petite girl was none other than Sun Ruirui.

Seeing Sun Ruirui, Li Qian smiled and walked over. ”Ruirui, long time no see.”

”Brother Qian, long time no see!” Sun Ruirui was all smiles, waving as she greeted Li Qian. She looked so playful and cute, all traces of her former melancholy completely gone.

Li Qian chuckled and praised her, ”They say to look at someone with new eyes after being apart. I never expected our little Ruirui would become a top student at Zhonghai Beast Taming University.”

Sun Ruirui said, a little embarrassed, ”Oh, Brother Qian, don’t tease me. Compared to you, I’m hardly a top student.”

”Oh, right! This is my good friend, Mo Ziyu. She’s a genius freshman in the Combat Academy at Zhonghai Beast Taming University.”

Sun Ruirui began introducing the girl with the high ponytail standing next to her.

”Hello.” Li Qian looked at the girl with the high ponytail and gave a polite greeting. ”My name is Li Qian—”

He was just about to introduce himself when the girl with the high ponytail cut him off. ”I know who you are. Ruirui mentions you all the time.”

Hearing this, Sun Ruirui’s face instantly turned as red as a ripe apple.

Her voice stammered, and she was visibly flustered. ”D-don’t listen to Ziyu’s nonsense... I... I... just... sometimes I express my gratitude, because... you’re my savior, after all! Yes, that’s it...”

Mo Ziyu’s expression was a bit odd as she listened to Sun Ruirui’s clumsy justification.

Just then, Fatty An and Lu Tianjiao came scurrying over.

Lu Tianjiao puffed out his chest and said, ”Hello there. My name is Lu Ming, but you can call me Lu Tianjiao. Like Qianzi here, I’m a freshman at Shazhou Beast Taming University. I’m also the future number one expert of the Shazhou Beast Taming University Combat Academy.”

Li Qian couldn’t help but facepalm as he listened to Lu Tianjiao’s shameless self-promotion.
