Cutesy Wife Sweet Like Honey: Mr. Mu's Nightly Dote!

Chapter 497: Chapter 540: Ghost Stories

Yan Qinghan was helping set up the tables and pots, while answering, ”Of course! We’re all pampered individuals, how could we know how to start a fire and cook! Since we brought a generator, of course, we’d bring a rice cooker and an induction stove! It’s more convenient to cook that way! Let me tell you, my darling is also a master chef, her skills are no worse than yours, little sister-in-law! Later, I’ll have her show off a bit so you can all taste her cooking!”

Guan Nuannuan rolled her eyes at Yan Qinghan and apologized, ”Don’t listen to his nonsense! Only he doesn’t mind my cooking; even my parents say it’s bad, and even Chuxia can’t eat it! But, I’ve often heard him say your cooking is excellent, and you make great dishes! You must teach me later!”

”No problem!” Ye Anxin agreed cheerfully and started helping to rinse rice and wash vegetables.

Though she couldn’t handle the heavy lifting, she had no problem with light tasks like rinsing rice and washing vegetables!

In a family of five, the men took care of the heavy lifting, while the women handled the cooking!

Since Lin Shengxia was born into a wealthy family, delicate as a flower, she never cooked; she could only help by washing vegetables or passing ingredients!

Xia Yunmo, although not an excellent cook, could make some simple dishes!

Ye Anxin and Ling Yueyue, due to their upbringing, were quite skilled in cooking; not only did they know a variety of dishes, but their taste was also the best!

The remaining four people were used to doing such tasks; their hands were quick, and before long, all the vegetables were sorted and cleaned!

Since there were many people, the food quantity was quite large!

Ye Anxin, Guan Nuannuan, Xia Yunmo, and Ling Yueyue divided the work, each cooking a few of their specialty dishes!

And the men, having finished their heavy tasks, sat on one side, chatting to pass the time!

Every time a dish was placed on the table, Yan Qinghan would sneak over to steal a bite!

After bustling about for a while, the food was finally ready!

All five families gathered around a large round table, holding bowls and chopsticks as they began to eat!

Lin Shengxia, sitting next to Gu Xingchen, looked at the table full of delicious dishes and blushed, embarrassed, saying, ”Everyone, I’m really sorry, I didn’t help much!”

Ye Anxin smiled and comforted her, ”It’s okay! We’re all here to have fun; the most important thing is to enjoy ourselves, cooking is just a minor task, and with so many of us working together, it was done in no time!”

Gu Xingchen put a piece of food in her bowl, and said softly, ”Don’t overthink it, they’re not petty people, eat more!”

”Okay!” Lin Shengxia, blushing, nodded and began to eat slowly.

Tiantian, sitting between Huo Junmo and Ling Yueyue, excitedly asked while eating, ”Mom, what are we doing after dinner?”

Ling Yueyue bit her chopsticks, tilted her head, and thought for a moment, ”How about we tell ghost stories around the bonfire tonight? I’m telling you, telling ghost stories in the wild at night is so thrilling! What do you say? Are you up for it?”

Hearing this, Lin Shengxia instinctively nestled into Gu Xingchen’s embrace, timidly saying, ”Do we have to? I’m scared!”

Ling Yueyue quickly said, ”With Gu Xingchen by your side, what are you afraid of! Even if there are ghosts, he’ll protect you, don’t worry!”

Guan Nuannuan also immediately said excitedly, ”I agree, I agree! I love ghost stories! Haha... Let’s tell ghost stories around the bonfire tonight! We often did this during university barbecues! It’s so much fun!”

Ling Yueyue looked at Xia Yunmo and asked, ”What about you, Mrs. Xiang? Are you scared?”

Xia Yunmo shrugged indifferently, ”I’m fine with it, whatever everyone wants!”

”Then it’s settled! After dinner and cleaning up, we’ll light the fire and tell stories around the bonfire! Luckily, Anxin collected dry wood during the day!” Growing more excited, to get into the game quickly, Ling Yueyue ducked her head and gulped down her food!

The children present all stared at Ling Yueyue blankly, the idea of telling ghost stories around a fire seemingly leaving them puzzled!

For them, such a scene was unfamiliar; they only knew ghost stories were scary but had never listened to one and really didn’t know how terrifying it could be!

So, seeing Ling Yueyue so excited, they also harbored a hint of expectation!

After everyone finished dinner and cleaned up, it was completely dark! They lit the bonfire and sat in a big circle around it!

Ye Anxin and Ling Yueyue habitually sat together, with Ye Anxin on the left of Mu Beiting and Xiao Bai, and on the right of Ling Yueyue were Tiantian, Tiantian, and Huo Junmo!

Yan Chuxia naturally squeezed in beside Xiao Bai, wanting to sit with him!

Xiao Bai, though frowning and looking impatient, didn’t force her away!

Being scared, Lin Shengxia nestled into Gu Yunhuan’s embrace, cuddling in Gu Xingchen’s arms!

Xia Yunmo looked unfazed as she sat beside Xiang Qingshi, who held their younger son Diandian, while Xiang Xuelan sat in between the couple.

Once everyone settled, Ling Yueyue eagerly spoke up, ”I’ll start, I’ll start! You guys better be prepared! This is a very terrifying story!”

Ye Anxin rolled her eyes at her and said moodily, ”Go ahead, no one is competing with you!”

”So I’ll begin! Long, long ago, on a pitch-black night, a person hastily traveled a road passing a graveyard. A light breeze rustled the surroundings, making one’s hair stand on end. Just then, he suddenly noticed a flickering red light in the distance,” Ling Yueyue narrated and mimed with her hands, opening and closing them, just like a flickering flame!

Everyone listened intently, eagerly anticipating the story’s progression.

”Upon seeing the flicker, his first thought was ’ghost fire’. So, he nervously picked up a stone and threw it towards the light. The firelight floated to another gravestone. Frightened, he picked up another stone and threw it again, and the light flew to yet another grave. At this point, he was near collapse. So he picked up another stone to throw as he trembled. Suddenly, right then...” Ling Yueyue paused deliberately, blinking her eyes mysteriously at the scared children curled up in their parents’ arms, and whispered in a chilly voice, ”Guess what happened then?”

Except for Xiao Bai and Tiantian, the other children shook their heads simultaneously, full of anticipation, ”We don’t know!”
