The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 632: Chapter 620: My Daughter Is a Vicious Supporting Female Character 20

On the set of the manhunt film, several extra actors huddled together to watch a live stream.

As they watched, they also discussed among themselves.

Some even glanced at Xiao Kai who was seated and resting intermittently.

Xiao Kai had a rough take just now, and his complexion was a bit off.

He needed some rest, to adjust his emotions before continuing to shoot.

After a moment, Xiao Kai got up and requested another take.

This time it was quickly successful, and Xiao Kai, exhausted, sat down again. His assistant Xiao Yuan hurried over and said, ”Bro Kai, the online opinion about Sister Xuan is pretty hostile right now, a lot of people are calling her an illegitimate daughter.”

Xiao Kai’s face turned even darker.

He took his phone and searched for a few trending topics about Zou Xuexuan, and quickly found the incident from the live stream room.

Seeing how many people online were debating whether Zou Xuexuan was an illegitimate daughter, Xiao Kai almost smashed his phone.

”What’s going on?”

He asked Xiao Yuan with a gloomy face.

Xiao Yuan said softly, ”Sister Xuan and Zou Jingjing were just on a variety show together, and then Zou Jingjing’s biological mother showed up. Now, many people online are fawning over Zou Jingjing’s mom and being somewhat cold toward Sister Xuan, especially just now...”

Xiao Kai had already opened the live stream room.

He read through many comments, the more he read, the angrier he became.

”Go hire some naval forces to address this, and also, put Zou Jingjing’s next drama on hold for now, let her come to her senses, and also talk to the merchants about those commercials to see if we can replace her.”

Xiao Yuan agreed and immediately called some of the company’s management to take care of these things.

Over at Starlight Entertainment, the vice president and some executives felt quite frustrated after receiving the calls.

Zou Jingjing had been subjected to a lot of negative press before, but as long as she was popular, bad publicity was still publicity, and the company’s higher-ups were planning to get her more films, commercials, and appearances. Now that the variety show aired, Zou Jingjing’s reputation improved, and she became even more popular than before.

The executives were happy about this, but Xiao Kai threw cold water on their plans, talking about giving the endorsements and spokesperson roles to someone else, and even dropping the negotiations for new films.

This was like turning their back on money.

However, Starlight was a Xiao Family business, and Xiao Kai had always been in charge, so they couldn’t just ignore his commands.

Just as the vice president was arranging for people to take over Zou Jingjing’s work, he received another phone call.

After the call, the vice president was sweating bullets.

Damn, this job as vice president isn’t for humans.

The second young master was asking to freeze out Zou Jingjing, while the eldest young master called to support her, offering her good resources, and even wanted to give a Xiao Family product endorsement to Zou Jingjing.

This was like mortals suffering from an immortals’ battle.

The vice president wondered if the eldest young master had taken a fancy to Zou Jingjing.

Now this would be interesting.

The eldest young master had his eye on Zou Jingjing, while Zou Xuexuan was the girlfriend of the second young master, Xiao Kai. The Xiao Family’s future promised to be quite lively.

Regardless of how lively the Xiao Family got, the vice president was in a real bind now.

After left and right thinking, he still called the eldest young master’s side.

”Assistant He, I just got a call from the second young master about the same issue. He wants to freeze out Zou Jingjing. You should discuss this with the eldest young master, as I’m not in a good position to handle it.”

Assistant He coldly chuckled after hearing this, ”Vice President Liu, the second young master hasn’t taken over the family business yet. What, you don’t regard the eldest young master anymore? Anyway, he is still the president of the Xiao Family, and wouldn’t a president of the Xiao Family be able to support a star? Follow the eldest young master’s orders, and if the second young master asks, refer him to the eldest young master.”

With this response, Vice President Liu dared to act.

He directly ordered that all endorsements should be reserved for Zou Jingjing, and even had someone bring many good scripts to Sister Hong for delivery, planning to have Zou Jingjing pick another good script for auditioning when she returned.

On a small island in the Pacific, several middle-aged men and women were sunbathing on the beach.

Suddenly, one of their phones rang.

They picked it up and answered.

”What, Ningning is back? What happened? Where has she been all these years...”

After listening to the phone call, the middle-aged man could no longer sit still and stood up, heading towards the villa not far away.

The other few people also hurriedly stood up and followed, asking, ”What happened?”

The middle-aged man was so angry that his eyes were somewhat red: ”Dammit Zou Huai De, he indeed is not a good person; we should never have let our sister Anning marry him.”

The middle-aged man’s name was Jiang Shaohui, the CEO of Huixiang Group.

And one of the few middle-aged men next to him was named Fan Yao, a very famous surgeon.

Another was Su Yuan Kun, a physicist.

A middle-aged woman named Chu Meng was the founder of Yimeng.

The youngest-looking middle-aged man was Zhou Zhenhua, the current Family Head of the Zhou Family.

These five individuals were all prominent figures and were also children adopted by Sheng Hanwen, Sheng Anning’s grandfather, in his early years.

Sheng Hanwen’s own son and daughter-in-law passed away early, and the only child at home was Anning. Worried that she would feel lonely, he adopted five more children to grow up alongside Sheng Anning.

Although these five children were adopted, Sheng Hanwen treated them all quite well, guiding them personally when they were young, all the way through their schooling, and put a lot of thought into leading these children.

As per the Sheng Family tradition, when children reached the age of eighteen, they would be given a share of the family wealth to start their own ventures.

These five were no exception.

Of course, Sheng Hanwen gave the five children money but did not distribute the heirlooms passed down by the Sheng Family, such as old artifacts and the ancestral home, which could only be inherited by the direct descendants of the Sheng Family.

The Sheng Family had amassed quite a fortune over several generations by Sheng Hanwen’s era.

Sheng Hanwen gave each of those five children a sum of money to start businesses or continue their education.

By the time it got to Anning, aside from the old mansion and those antiques, Sheng Hanwen really hadn’t left much money.

Sheng Hanwen and Pan Yunxi passed away early, and by the time of their deaths, those five children had only been distributed their shares not long before and had made investments that they couldn’t recover immediately.

Nevertheless, they did everything they could to arrange a funeral for Anning; afterward, the five kept in touch with her.

By the time Sheng Anning was in college, the five were at critical points in their careers, and for a while failed to notice something was off with Anning; she even started dating Zou Huai De.

In fact, Jiang Shaohui and Su Yuan Kun had always been against it, but Sheng Anning wouldn’t listen to them, and they were helpless.

Later on, Sheng Anning became estranged over some issues, and they were not even informed about her wedding.

At that time, the five of them were truly heartbroken.

They thought that perhaps Sheng Anning didn’t want to be disturbed by them, so they tried as much as possible to stay out of Sheng Anning’s life.

Who would have known that their conciliatory approach would cause harm to Sheng Anning?

When they found out Sheng Anning had gone missing, they were genuinely frantic and anxious.

The five put their careers aside to look for Anning everywhere, searching for many years without success.

They were furious with Zou Huai De and had thought about dealing with him, but remembering how Sheng Anning had fought with them and forbade them from harming Zou Huai De, they hesitated to take action.

They were afraid that if Sheng Anning returned, she would be angry with them and would not want to see them ever again.

Twenty-some years have since passed.

They would meet on this island every year to unwind and to update each other about the search for Anning over the years.

This year, there finally was news.

Fan Yao grabbed Jiang Shaohui tightly: ”What exactly happened? Where is Ningning now?”

”Back then, Ningning was taken into the mountains by Zou Huai De and almost got killed. Although she was saved by someone, she lost her memory, and it was only until recently that she regained it.”

Jiang Shaohui, upon mentioning this event, wished he could immediately go back and drag Zou Huai De out to be cut a thousand times, ten thousand times.

That person, whom he held dear at the core of his heart, causing him anxiety and care - too precious to treat harshly or carelessly - had been treated like that by Zou Huai De.

Ningning deigning to look at Zou Huai De was his fortune accumulated over several lifetimes; yet he didn’t appreciate it and even plotted against Ningning in secret.

Jiang Shaohui, with reddened eyes, said, ”I need to go back.”

Zhou Zhenhua nodded: ”I’m going back too. I want to take revenge for Ningning.”

The other three unanimously agreed: ”Let’s go together. Since Zou Huai De dared to harm Ningning, he better be prepared to withstand our fury.”
