The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 605: Chapter 595: The Stepmother Who Refuses to Be a Stepping Stone 83

Li Jingyu didn’t actually harbor deep love for Xu Han.

She had witnessed how Li Zhifang had hurt his closest family out of love for Wang Baozhu and had also seen the consequences of Li Zhifang and Wang Baozhu’s actions. After these experiences, Li Jingyu had become particularly rational.

It can be said that, apart from her family, there was hardly anyone who could move Li Jingyu’s heart.

Unless that person loved her deeply and was willing to sacrifice everything for her.

But was Xu Han that kind of person?

Li Jingyu only had a good impression of Xu Han; she felt comfortable and quite happy with him. And as she was getting older, she thought it was time to settle down, so she accepted Xu Han’s pursuit.

Anning could see such emotions in Li Jingyu’s eyes.

Anning sighed, she actually felt quite sorry for this child.

She held Li Jingyu’s hand: ”Don’t marry for the sake of getting married. If you don’t love Xu Han, don’t trap yourself in trouble. In this life, you should always live for yourself. If you can find someone who loves you and whom you love in return, then mother will bless you. But if you’re just blindly marrying someone because you feel you should, mother wouldn’t want you to do that.”

Li Jingyu was a bit stunned: ”Mother, doesn’t everyone need to get married? If I don’t, will you be very disappointed?”

Anning chuckled softly: ”Not at all. Mother just wants you to have a good life. As long as you know what you want and the kind of life you wish to lead, then mother will be reassured.”

Li Jingyu suddenly laughed after a moment.

She asked Anning: ”Did you discover that Xu Han is unreliable, so you deliberately talked to me about this?”

Anning didn’t hide anything from Li Jingyu; she told her all about how Xiao Shiman had warned her and how she had someone investigate the Xu family’s background in detail.

”Xu Han’s father is Xu Mao. He was the man Wang Baozhu eloped with back in the day.”

Anning’s words rendered Li Jingyu completely dumbfounded.

”This...”

She thought that it was truly a tragic entanglement.

”This is true, I wouldn’t joke about such a matter.”

Anning said earnestly: ”Just for this reason alone, I would not agree to your relationship with Xu Han. Moreover, he is particularly promiscuous and fickle-hearted. Because of his character, he drove a perfectly fine girl insane. He has had many girlfriends, and now he has contracted all kinds of diseases. Jingyu, you are my daughter. My daughter should live in peace and happiness, should live quietly, not be with such a rotten person.”

Li Jingyu hung her head, pondering a lot at this moment.

Anning had found a great deal of information about Xu Han, and because there was so much of it, the records were especially detailed. Li Jingyu deeply felt Anning’s love and care for her.

Anning truly doted on her as if she were her own biological daughter.

If she didn’t truly care about her, why would Anning go to the effort of investigating the Xu family’s affairs? If she didn’t truly love her, how could she investigate so thoroughly and yet keep her unaware?

Everything Anning had done was for her own good, her loving care for her daughter profoundly touched Li Jingyu.

Li Jingyu leaned against Anning, just like when she was a child: ”Mother, what do you think I should do? I... I’ve been in a relationship with him for a while now, and the school principal and teachers all know about it. If I suddenly break up with him, it will inevitably cause some adverse effects.”

Anning patted Li Jingyu’s hand: ”Don’t worry, mother has arranged everything for you. If you want to break up with him, mother will certainly make it happen for you. Even if you don’t want to break up, mother, for your own good, will have to be the bad person.”

Li Jingyu felt a sudden sense of ease.

She smiled: ”Why wouldn’t I want to break up with him? You are my mother, and you are definitely looking out for my best interests. Compared to mother, what is he?”

Li Jingyu rose to her feet and looked at Anning with utmost sincerity: ”In my heart, Mother, Jing Yan, and Jing Han are all equally important to me. To put it bluntly, if one day I fall on hard times, whether it’s Mother, Jing Yan, or Liu Qi, as long as you are there, I’ll have a meal to eat. You would never let me go hungry. But I can’t be sure about Xu Han. If I really become destitute, he might just take the money and run off.”

This child.

Anning inwardly sighed at how clear-sighted Li Jingyu was, seeing everything so clearly and understandingly.

”You just focus on your work, I will handle this matter properly for you, ensuring no one will have anything negative to say about you.”

Anning said with a smile, comforting Li Jingyu: ”Since you’re here, stay over tonight. Later, just like when you were little, we can have a good heart-to-heart chat.”

Anning got up and took Li Jingyu to the room she had prepared for her.

”Take a bath first. I’ll cook, and we can talk after dinner.”

After Anning left, Li Jingyu looked around the room.

The room was quite large and decorated in an antique style, with a big carved bed against the wall, covered by a fragrant-colored embroidered canopy. The bedding had already been neatly laid out, with colors matching those of the canopy.

A low table was placed by the bed, a long table on the other side, on which there was a celestial globe porcelain vase filled with Xiuqiu flowers. There was also a dressing table and a large carved wardrobe.

Li Jingyu opened the wardrobe and saw it was packed with clothes of various styles.

She could tell that these clothes were all her size. When she opened the drawers below, inside were two sets of new pajamas and a set of loungewear.

Li Jingyu took out a set of pajamas and entered the adjoining bathroom.

In the bathroom, all sorts of toiletries were neatly arranged, and there was even a wooden bathtub, beside which stood a small cabinet.

Li Jingyu opened the cabinet and saw some dried flowers and sachets of herbs wrapped in gauze inside.

She took a sachet of herbs and threw it into the bathtub, then started to fill it with hot water.

Li Jingyu took her time and enjoyed a good soak in the bath. Afterward, emerging from the bath, she felt as if all the fatigue had vanished, feeling refreshed and invigorated.

Outside, Anning was already calling her to eat.

Li Jingyu slipped on her pajamas and slippers and went out.

”Dry your hair,” said Anning as she laid out the bowls and chopsticks.

Li Jingyu smiled, took a clean towel, obediently dried her hair, then combed it neatly and tied it back with a hairband.

”Those herbal sachets are quite good.”

Li Jingyu took a seat.

”You should ask Shi Man for some. She made them, I’ve used them a few times and the effect is really good.”

Anning smiled and passed the bowls and chopsticks to Li Jingyu.

Li Jingyu served herself some rice: ”Mom, it’s so good to have you around.”

Anning flicked Li Jingyu’s forehead: ”Okay, now, eat your meal, enough with the sentimentality.”

Li Jingyu responded and obediently tucked into her meal.

After dinner, she automatically did the dishes and cleaned up.

Late into the night, mother and daughter nestled together on the bed talking. As they spoke, Li Jingyu’s eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and soon she fell asleep.
