The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 620: Chapter 609: My Daughter Is a Vicious Supporting Female Character 9

Early in the morning, Anning was awakened by a sharp cry.

She opened her eyes, still groggy, only to see Zou Jingjing running over in pajamas, her hair disheveled.

”Mom, look at my face, look...”

Anning focused her eyes and couldn’t help but laugh.

Zou Jingjing’s face had been covered with acne the day before, but now it was completely clear, not only were the pimples gone, but her skin had become smooth and fair.

Previously, Zou Jingjing had started wearing makeup since her teens, but back then she didn’t have much money, so she could only buy cheap cosmetics. Also, she wasn’t very skilled at applying makeup, which resulted in significant skin damage. Now, at only twenty years old, her skin had already become quite poor, and she usually didn’t dare to appear in front of the camera without makeup.

But today, while washing her face in the morning, Zou Jingjing saw her skin revert back to its state from many years ago.

”I see it.”

Anning got up: ”The acne has disappeared.”

”No, Mom, look.”

Zou Jingjing pointed excitedly to her own face: ”My skin has improved a lot, Mom, that ointment you made was really amazing. Just one night, only one night.”

Anning touched Zou Jingjing’s smooth cheek: ”There’s still some of the medicine I made last night left. Apply it again tonight. Don’t wear makeup these few days, try to eat lightly and no matter what happens, try not to get upset or flare up. We’ll try to get your skin in the best condition before the show starts.”

Being able to improve her skin, Zou Jingjing was willing to endure even not eating for a few days if just eating lightly could help.

She nodded incessantly: ”I’ll listen to you, Mom.”

After breakfast, Anning told Zou Jingjing, ”Get ready, I’ll take you to visit a few friends.”

Zou Jingjing tidied up the kitchen, and while wiping her hands, she asked Anning, ”What kind of friends are we visiting? How old are they? What are their occupations?”

Anning understood why Zou Jingjing was asking this.

It was Zou Jingjing’s first time visiting people with Anning, naturally, she wanted to make a good impression, and it required attention to how one dresses. The attire needed for visiting young friends and older friends could not be the same.

Anning went inside with Zou Jingjing, picked a simple and fresh outfit for her, and considering the hot weather outside, gave her a hat to wear.

When the mother and daughter were leaving, Zou Jingjing asked Anning, ”Mom, where do you plan to live later? In Qinghe or in the Capital?”

Anning thought for a moment, ”For now, let’s stay in the Capital. After the program finishes, I’ll take you back to Qinghe. There’s our family ancestral home; you need to recognize our house and also, you have to follow me to record our family genealogy and learn some things.”

”Okay.”

Anning must have confirmed with those few friends over the phone yesterday, as today she directly took Zou Jingjing to visit them.

The two first went to Jing University. Anning has a good friend who currently teaches there, she took Zou Jingjing to visit their home for a while, told the friend about her return, and introduced Zou Jingjing to them.

Leaving Jing University, Anning took Zou Jingjing to another family’s house.

When Zou Jingjing saw the man in his fifties receiving them, she was truly shocked.

This man was really famous; he was an expert in antiques and also the Director of the National Museum. Zou Jingjing had only seen this man on television but had never met him before.

If not for Anning taking her, she probably would never have had the chance to meet such a person in her lifetime.

Anning, with Zou Jingjing, followed the man into his living room, went up smiling, and hugged the man: ”Brother Yue, it’s really been a long time.”

This man is called Yue Haichang, and he’s about ten years older than Anning. They’ve known each other for many years.

Seeing Anning, Yue Haichang seemed especially delighted. He asked Anning to sit down, then turned around to fetch a teapot and cups: ”Just the other day I got some fine tea. Later, you can brew a pot, and we can properly savor it.”

Anning took the teapot and looked at it: ”You still kept this teapot.”

Yue Haichang smiled: ”Of course, I’ve kept it. This was the first gift you ever gave me, and I’ve kept it for many years.”

While laughing, he grabbed two bottles of water: ”This is water from Yuquan Mountain.”

Anning took the water and started to heat it, then set up the teaware. When the water was almost boiling, she started to brew the tea.

Zou Jingjing watched Anning elegantly brew tea, her movements as smooth as flowing clouds and water, feeling a profound admiration. She thought her previous way of drinking tea was like a cow chewing on peonies, far too crude.

Anning held up a cup of tea and handed it to Yue Haichang, who took a light sip: ”It’s been so many years since I last tasted your tea, today I finally get to enjoy it.”

Yue Haichang didn’t ask Anning in front of Zou Jingjing about where she had been all these years. Setting down his teacup, he pointed to Zou Jingjing and asked Anning: ”Is this your daughter?”

Anning nodded: ”Yes, I just got back and hurried to bring her to meet you and our old friends. My daughter is good in every way, just a bit straightforward and not so skilled in speaking. You, as her uncle, will have to look after her more in the future.”

”Don’t worry.”

Having heard Anning say this, Yue Haichang readily agreed without a second thought: ”She’s our own child, of course, I’ll take good care of her.”

Until they left the Yue Family, Zou Jingjing still felt dazed.

She’d never imagined that Anning’s idea of visiting friends meant meeting such friends; it was really exciting.

Next, Anning took Zou Jingjing to visit several friends, among them an elderly artist, a famous Peking opera singer.

The singer was especially delighted to see Anning, insisting that Anning sing a piece, saying it had been over twenty years since she last heard Anning sing opera, and she thought she’d never hear it in this lifetime.

Anning, caught in the excitement, and the singer performed a segment of opera in the house.

Anning’s other friends were also quite famous: one was a film king who had retired from the film industry many years ago, a fond memory for many when they were younger; another was a master embroiderer; and yet another a history expert...

As Zou Jingjing followed Anning on these visits, she also received quite a few gifts, to the point where she felt numb by the end.

The two had been out all day, only returning home in the evening.

Back home, Anning had no wish to cook, so she had Zou Jingjing order takeout.

Before they even had dinner, Sister Hong rushed over.

As soon as she entered, she said to Zou Jingjing: ”I’ve spoken with the program crew about Ms. Sheng participating in the program, they’ve accepted. Tomorrow, Ms. Sheng needs to sign the contract with me. Also, I’ve found out that the first stop of the show is in the countryside, and the second should be abroad. You’ll need to make quick preparations.”

Having confirmed the locations, Zou Jingjing dragged Anning along to choose what to buy.

She took out her phone and started swiping: ”Do we need to bring mosquito repellent for the countryside? Oh, are there many mosquitoes? Maybe we should also bring a mosquito net. Also, we need to quickly learn how to use a clay stove...”

Anning patted Zou Jingjing’s shoulder with a smile: ”Don’t worry, wherever we go, there will be no problem as long as I’m there.”

Zou Jingjing felt an extraordinary sense of calm.

Anning went out and bought some medicines, then came back and mixed a lot of medicine powder, neatly packed it into fragrance bags and marked them. Besides this, she advised Zou Jingjing to buy some spices and other stuff, but they made no other preparations.
