Not Being a Trainer This Time

Pokemon need to eat.

It alone didn’t really mind and could just make do with anything, but that wouldn’t work for the group of companions following it.

So over this past year or so, every time they stopped along the road, Mewtwo would first settle them in a safe place, then go out alone to look for food.

Because of this, Mewtwo often found itself sighing. Life, huh… Is this what life is like for humans and for those ordinary Pokemon that were originally born into this world?

Hearing Mewtwo’s words, Mew and Teddiursa exchanged a look.

In fact, the two of them were very fond of Mew as well, and already regarded Mewtwo as a good friend.

On quiet, late nights in the past, Mew would occasionally think of Mewtwo, wondering where it was now and how it was doing.

And after the World Tree grew, that feeling only became stronger.

—If only Mewtwo and Pikachu and Meowth and the others could also come live at the World Tree.

Then everyone would never have to part again!

Whenever they wanted to meet, they could see each other anytime, anywhere; they could eat Berries together, watch the stars, or chase each other around and play tag, and even invite everyone into the secret base to play.

Just thinking about it felt so blissful!

With that thought, Mew and Teddiursa made up their minds.

Teddiursa opened its mouth and extended an invitation to Mewtwo: ”Yimo!” (Mewtwo, come live at the World Tree with everyone!)

Hearing this unfamiliar word, Mewtwo was slightly taken aback.

”World Tree?”

Its tone was filled with confusion.

”Yimo!” (That’s right! The World Tree!)

Teddiursa nodded again and again.

Beside it, Mew covered its mouth and laughed happily: ”miu～” (That’s right, it’s a very, very big tree, Naoki grew it, and we’ve already invited lots of good friends to go live there～)

Teddiursa’s eyes were shining: ”Yimo!” (That way, from now on everyone can always be together!)

Naoki… that human again.

In Mewtwo’s mind surfaced the scene from last time, when that human had treated it to fruit wine.

”He’s the one who grew the World Tree?” Mewtwo asked.

Teddiursa nodded: ”Yimo!” (And Gogoat!)

Gogoat—sounded like a Pokemon as well.

Mewtwo couldn’t help falling into thought; it didn’t agree right away.

These days it was no longer alone. Besides itself, there were many Pokemon by its side waiting for its care.

Thinking of this, Mewtwo turned around and looked at the group of cloned Pokemon that followed it.

Pikachu, Meowth, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Sandslash, Gyarados, Golduck, Ninetales, Nidoking, Vaporeon, Vileplume, Rapidash, Rhyhorn, Wigglytuff.

Aside from these cloned Pokemon, over this year their group had also continued to grow.

Two Mareep, a Skitty, a Patrat, a Buneary, as well as a Skiddo and a Mudbray.

These Pokemon had once suffered cruelly at the hands of humans; Mewtwo could not stand by and watch such things happen, so it stepped in and rescued them.

From then on, this group of Pokemon joined their team.

Mewtwo was planning to take them to find a hidden place where they could live together.

Mewtwo gazed at this group of Pokemon, and this group of Pokemon gazed back at Mewtwo.

”miu?”

Off to the side, Mew tilted its head as it watched this scene.

It blinked, and seemed to sense the hesitation and wavering in Mewtwo. A thoughtful look appeared on Mew’s small face.

Teddiursa’s little face was scrunched in distress, utterly puzzled by Mewtwo’s hesitation.

”Yimo...” (It’d be fine if everyone just went over there to live together...)

Mewtwo stayed silent, saying nothing.

Just then, Mew suddenly thought of a good idea.

It flew excitedly up in front of Mewtwo and called out to it: ”miu!” (Mewtwo!)

Mewtwo blinked and lifted its head to look at Mew in puzzlement.

The next second, Mew curled up its body as if gathering strength, and then a blue, mystical halo spread out from it in all directions.

The scenery around them began changing rapidly.

From an open clearing in a wild forest, they arrived above an unbelievably gigantic, towering tree.

In almost the blink of an eye, all the Pokemon noticed this super-massive tree.

Their faces showed expressions of shock.

”Pika!”

”Meow?”

”...”

Mewtwo was also very surprised, but soon realized that Mew was showing them the World Tree from its memories!

”So this is the World Tree?” Mewtwo looked forward with a hint of curiosity in its eyes.

Compared to this tree, they were so small and insignificant.

”miu!”

Mew nodded repeatedly.

Then it used Telekinesis to carry the surrounding Pokemon and fly forward.

Passing through the lush canopy at the top of the World Tree, a vast region appeared below.

Mewtwo swept its gaze over it and found that this place was actually as large as a huge human-built metropolis!

The tree held all kinds of terrain: dense, verdant forests, vibrant grassy fields, streams winding through the woods and finally gathering in an open area to form a round lake.

These were the scenes they could see for the moment.

In places their sight couldn’t yet reach, there must be even more expansive regions.

Mew flew along the tree with everyone while introducing the place:

”miu～” (This is the World Tree. Don’t worry, it’s very quiet here. Other than Naoki occasionally coming up, there are no other humans at all. There are only Pokemon in the tree. Naoki said he’s going to help us build the headquarters of an Explorer Team Guild here!)
