Not Being a Trainer This Time

Professor Oak’s mind was racing with thoughts.

He glanced at Calyrex beside him, then couldn’t wait to voice his question.

”Why did Calyrex fall into such a state?”

”That’s because many things happened in the Galar Region thousands of years ago,” Naoki replied, ”I wonder if you’ve heard of the ’Darkest Day,’ Professor.”

”The Darkest Day?” Professor Oak was slightly stunned.

Naoki explained differently, ”The root of the Dynamax phenomenon.”

This time, Professor Oak understood.

Dynamaxing is a unique battle transformation specific to the Galar Region.

In battles, Trainers use the Dynamax Band developed by Professor Magnolia to Dynamax their Pokemon.

Dynamaxed Pokemon become gigantic, and the moves they can use change depending on their types.

Even though the Kanto Region is far from the Galar Region, Professor Oak had heard some rumors from over there.

”Related to the Dynamax?” he asked.

Naoki nodded, continuing, ”The story goes back to long, long ago.”

”In the ancient times of the Galar Region, there was a place called the Crown Tundra where two Kings of Horses resided, one named Glastrier and the other named Spectrier.”

”Glastrier and Spectrier were furious at humans who invaded their territory, constantly attacking humans and their companion Pokemon.”

”At that time, Calyrex appeared because of this, defeating both Spectrier and Glastrier and forming deep bonds with them.”

”Moreover, given the harsh climate of the Crown Tundra at that time, people’s lives were difficult. Calyrex, naturally compassionate, couldn’t bear to see humans suffering from hunger and cold, so it waved its hands, granting fertility to the land, allowing crops to flourish and flowers to bloom.”

”The people there regarded this as a miracle. They were grateful for Calyrex’s kindness and built a shrine for it and the two beloved horses, worshipping them for generations.”

”At that time, riding on its beloved horse, Calyrex galloped across the Galar land. Gradually, people began to call it the King of Bountiful Harvests, seeing it as the king of the Galar Region. Under Calyrex’s rule, the Galar Region once became prosperous.”

Professor Oak listened intently.

Through Naoki’s words, he could almost envision the harmony between humans and Calyrex thousands of years ago.

Humans worshipped Calyrex, and Calyrex protected its people, bringing them abundance and relieving them from the suffering of hunger.

Such a thing is truly beautiful.

However, Naoki’s tone suddenly changed.

Naoki: ”But the good times didn’t last. On an ordinary day, Calyrex, through its Future Sight, saw that a disaster would soon befall the Galar land.”

”At that time, the Darkest Day would envelop the entire Galar Region. Under the influence of the Darkest Day, countless wild Pokemon would experience Dynamaxing, lose their reason, and commence massive destruction of everything around them.”

”To prepare for the impending crisis, Calyrex sought the Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta, known as the Hundred Battle Heroes.”

”With the help of a Melmetal, the people crafted a Sword and Shield for Zacian and Zamazenta using Melmetal’s steel. Calyrex bestowed its power upon Zacian and Zamazenta, transforming them into the King of Swords and the King of the Shield.”

”After everything was prepared, the Darkest Day descended. Zacian and Zamazenta went to confront the threat, while the exhausted Calyrex used the last of its power to move an entire vast forest, protecting the Pokemon there from the Darkest Day.”

”After doing all this, Calyrex fell into slumber, and when it awoke again, thousands of years had passed.”

”How could this be…”

Hearing this, Professor Oak had even more respect for Calyrex.

Having done all that, whether for humans or Pokemon, it truly is a magnificent king!

”And what happened afterward?” Professor Oak asked again, already engrossed in the story, eager to know if the disaster had been resolved and the true nature of the Darkest Day.

”Later, Zacian and Zamazenta successfully repelled Eternatus, known as the Darkest Day. After that, not finding Calyrex, the two heroes could only retreat with the Sword and Shield back into the forest to hide until they decayed.”

”Eternatus?” Professor Oak suddenly noted the name mentioned, ”Is that a Pokemon too?”

Naoki nodded, ”You might say so, but it’s not a Pokemon from this planet. There are rumors in the Galar Region suggesting that Eternatus fell to the Galar Region from the distant cosmos along with a meteorite.”

”From the cosmos…” Professor Oak immediately thought of Pokemon like Clefairy.

But soon, Professor Oak realized something was amiss.

If Eternatus, the source of the Darkest Day, was dealt with, then logically, the phenomenon of Dynamaxing should have disappeared too!

Yet now, why can Dynamaxing still occur in the Galar Region?

Could it be…

Professor Oak’s expression turned grave.

Naoki saw his train of thought and nodded, ”That’s correct, Zacian and Zamazenta didn’t completely defeat it, only repelled it. Afterward, Eternatus also fell into slumber; perhaps it might wake up again in the near future.”

Hearing this, Professor Oak’s face grew increasingly grave.
