Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 181: Chapter 178: Unscrupulous Veterinarian

“Too late, too fast,” the puppy, sharp-toothed and fierce, actually bit down on the veterinarian’s arm, and it sported a very ferocious look.

If it hadn’t been for the onset of winter, with the veterinarian wearing clothes beneath his lab coat, that bite from the puppy could have caused an injury.

Huo Sining looked helplessly on the surface, but quickly swept the dog out of the veterinarian’s reach, while the corners of his mouth involuntarily curled up slightly.

What a spirited little fellow—already able to discern right from wrong at such a small size. Grown up, he would likely be even more formidable.

Huo Sining felt joy in his heart and had a particular fondness for this intelligent little creature. Thinking of the Jingba his uncle kept at home, he felt bringing this guy back to keep the small Jingba company wouldn’t be bad.

After declining the veterinarian’s service, Huo Sining decided to take matters into his own hands. He took the Yunnan Baiyao Spray from the vet to treat the puppy’s superficial wounds, then wrapped the injured area with a bandage. Having done this, Huo Sining was ready to leave with the puppy in his arms.

“Young miss, are you really not considering surgery for this dog? I’m not trying to scare you, but your dog is seriously ill. If you delay too long, it could be beyond help, and by then it will be too late for regrets.”

Seeing Huo Sining about to leave, the veterinarian was not willing to give up and stopped her, attempting to scare her into relenting.

Beyond help? If you really went ahead with the surgery, opening up this puppy’s stomach to remove the treasure it holds, wouldn’t the dog be truly beyond help then?

“Doctors should act humanely.”

“Though you’re a veterinarian, I still respect you as a doctor. Once you put on that white lab coat, you should adhere to the principle of humanity.”

With a hint of coldness in her eyes, Huo Sining turned back and stared straight at the doctor.

“What exactly does my dog have, if not pneumonia? Why do you keep exaggerating the severity of its condition, emphasizing the need for immediate surgery? We both know the hidden motive behind it all.”

“I’m holding back from exposing you out of respect for your dignity. As for what’s inside this dog’s stomach, I’m afraid it’s not for you to covet!”

The doctor, who had intended to continue with his alarmist claims, was taken aback upon hearing Huo Sining’s words, his expression dramatically changing and his face going pale with fear.

He looked at Huo Sining uncertainly, his mouth opening as if to argue, but under Huo Sining’s piercing gaze, he couldn’t utter a word.

“Don’t bother explaining that this is all a misunderstanding, nobody will believe such nonsense.”

Huo Sining smiled faintly, her large eyes sharp as a hawk’s, fixing the doctor with an intense stare.

The middle-aged doctor felt his heartbeat surge, guilt making him lower his head.

All his well-laid plans had been thoroughly seen through by someone else, although he remained utterly oblivious, as laughable as a clown who fancies himself clever.

Seeing the doctor’s reaction, Huo Sining smiled satisfactorily, turned around, and took a few steps towards the exit. Then, suddenly recalling something, she looked back with sarcasm in her voice, “You treat dogs, so you should know that dogs understand human nature. It’s clear to see, my dog doesn’t like you very much!”

Qin Shaoyou had stayed silent during Huo Sining’s cryptic exchange with the doctor, as he was completely confused. Thus, once they got into the car, he couldn’t help but ask, “What did you mean by what you said to that doctor? Is there something inside the dog’s stomach?”

Huo Sining’s face remained calm, “Probably, I don’t really know.”

Qin Shaoyou was stunned for a moment, “Then how do you know that the doctor wanted to harm it? Didn’t you just say that the dog didn’t have pneumonia?”

Huo Sining looked innocent, “I don’t know, I just said that on purpose. I thought that the vet clinic was so shabby and the medical equipment so outdated, it couldn’t possibly perform surgery on pets. So I deliberately tested him to see if he was lying. And sure enough, he gave himself away.”

As Huo Sining spoke, she raised her eyebrows and chin, adopting a look of pride. Her eyes clearly conveyed, “Well, Qin Shaoyou, what do you think? Aren’t I clever?”

Qin Shaoyou forced a smile, his eyes clearly showing that he didn’t buy her flimsy explanation.

He had also somewhat understood Huo Sining’s conversation with the doctor.

That vet seemed to be fabricating the young pup’s condition, exaggerating its severity to mislead Huo Sining, seemingly with the intent of having her agree to surgery at the hospital. He appeared to have an ulterior motive.

But what could be the motive behind such a critically ill puppy?

Qin Shaoyou looked puzzled. He had clearly heard Huo Sining mention something inside the dog’s belly and said that it wasn’t something that the doctor could covet. There must be a problem here!

Qin Shaoyou felt there was some insider information he wasn’t privy to, but Huo Sining was tight-lipped.

He wanted to probe for clarity, but ever since the angelfish incident, he had come to realize something.

That was Huo Sining, a girl from Sichuan Province, was formidable and not as easily deceived as those delicate girls from S City.

Given Huo Sining’s personality, unless she wanted to talk, even if he inquired further, it would be in vain.

Thinking about how Huo Sining had sharply countered the unscrupulous vet, Qin Shaoyou had mixed emotions.

From the beginning, he had a poor impression of her. This girl was deep and practiced, far from the naïveté he had imagined for an eighteen- or nineteen-year-old.

However, Qin Shaoyou had to admit the girl was level-headed, calm in handling matters, and shrewdly powerful, much like a savvy and rational businesswoman.

Qin Shaoyou knew Huo Sining was an orphan, with both parents deceased, living with her uncle from a young age. Hence, he was even more curious about this mysterious beggar she referred to as her master.

What kind of master could have trained such a formidable daughter?

Back in S City, Qin Shaoyou helped deliver the ornamental fish Huo Sining had bought to the Xianyu Shop, while she hurriedly carried the puppy back to her villa in the school district.

As soon as she entered her home, she saw the stray Jingba that Su Qingqing had picked up, circling around Master Huang in the yard.

The little Jingba had been living comfortably lately, its fur looking much better. Thanks to the fatty bones occasionally thrown by Master Huang, it had plumped up and taken over Huo Sining’s villa as its territory, cheerfully running around the yard each day.

When Huo Sining arrived, the dog greeted her as usual. It wagged its tail and went to paw at Huo Sining’s trouser leg.

However, what Huo Sining didn’t expect was that in the instance the Jingba pounced towards her, the pup in her arms, as if feeling its status threatened, suddenly leapt to the ground with a fierce look in its eyes, staring down the little Jingba and emitting a warning growl.

The little Jingba was startled by this unexpected intruder. Initially wanting to bark a few times to assert its dominance, it immediately backed down upon catching the sinister look in the pup’s eyes.

The Jingba respectfully relinquished its status as top dog, retiring behind the scenes with drooped ears and a wilted tail, scampering into the house, and daring not to come out again.
