Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 172: Chapter 169 Master Zhou’s Decision

What incensed Master Zhou the most was that, after the Su family released the news of the cancelled engagement, the business partners who were on friendly terms with the Su family one after another terminated their cooperation with the Zhou Family, plunging the Zhou Family into an instant predicament.

Master Zhou had severely reprimanded Zhou Zhen for this matter, thinking that Zhou Zhen would take his words to heart. However, to his astonishment, his grandson played him for a fool, even daring to provoke the Su family.

“You wronged the girl first, and you won’t allow her to fight back?”

Master Zhou’s voice was clear and cold, devoid of any trace of emotion, “Even if what you said about her setting you up is true, such a scheme doesn’t sound too clever. If you hadn’t been so foolish, how could you have fallen for it so easily?!”

“Grandfather?” Zhou Zhen was momentarily stunned upon hearing these words, not expecting this kind of reaction from his grandfather.

“The Zhou Family is what I have built in my lifetime, yet you squander it so recklessly. It seems you do not take this family business to heart. Since that’s the case, let’s bring Zhou Yan back,” Master Zhou said, his face showing utter exhaustion.

Zhou Father and Zhou Mother were still thinking about how to cheer the old Master up when his words suddenly drained the color from their faces.

“Dad–” Zhou Mother cried out in shock upon hearing this.

Having vented his anger, Master Zhou finally calmed down and made a decision in his heart. He waved his hand and said, “A Yun, go call the young miss!”

“Dad, Zhou Yan is still studying. When he comes back, big sister will surely miss him!” Zhou Mother’s expression was not good, but she still forced a smile to please the old Master.

Yet Master Zhou glared coldly at her, “He can study in the country as well. Since he has taken the Zhou surname from his mother, he is a part of this Zhou Family!”

Upon hearing this, Zhou Mother’s face turned ashen and her lips trembled, as if she wanted to say something more.

Unfortunately, Master Zhou had no intention of continuing the conversation. He stood up imperiously, looking down at his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson:

“It’s no use talking about it now. Let Zhou Yan come back first. I will make my decisions after observing the situation. Zhen’er is not young anymore; it’s time for him to settle down and start his own family. That Ye Zixin, I hope you will stop entangling yourself with her. As for the Su family, I will find time to personally pay them a visit and offer my apologies. Even if the marriage cannot proceed, we should not become enemies!”

After saying this, Master Zhou went upstairs, leaning on his cane.

Zhou Zhen knelt on the ground, his face filled with confusion, while Zhou Mother was already beside herself with urgency.

The Zhou Family was the reliance of her and her husband. She married Father Zhou because the Zhou Family was lacking in heirs, anticipating that after the old Master passed away, she would be in charge of Zhou’s Jewelry.

But now, the old Master’s sudden decision to call back big sister’s son signified that who would manage Zhou’s Jewelry in the future remained uncertain.

If the Zhou Family’s business ultimately fell into the hands of big sister’s son, Zhou Yan, then their branch might have to depend on big sister’s whims for their livelihood.

Just thinking about that scenario filled Zhou Mother’s heart with discomfort.

“What should we do? Dad has actually made such a decision. If Zhou Yan comes back and the Zhou Family falls into his hands, how will we live?!”

Zhou Father also let out a deep sigh. His face, usually stern, now displayed a look of gloom and helplessness. He wiped his face and lamented, “Whom can we blame? We can only blame Zhen’er for being too rash this time, disappointing the old Master. Before Zhou Yan comes back, during this period, you better keep an eye on Zhen’er and don’t let him cause any more trouble!”

Facing the old master’s attitude, Zhou Father felt panic rising in his heart.

His elder sister had settled in America for many years and, after a divorce, had let her son take her surname, but Zhou Father had never paid much attention to the boy. He hadn’t anticipated that one day, Zhou Yan would become the biggest threat to his own son’s inheritance of the Zhou family business.

The decision of the old master was certainly not made on a whim; it had been considered for a long time in his heart. It was only after Zhou Zhen’s failed bet on the Pingzhou stone market that the old master finally made up his mind.

Once Zhou Yan returned to the country, it would mean the old master would involve him in the affairs of Zhou’s Jewelry. With that, no one could predict whose hands the future leadership of the Zhou family would fall into.

“Zhen’er, Zhou Yan is coming back and will definitely work at the company. You’re not young anymore and should be sensible. We’ll overlook the Pingzhou incident, but if you want to take over the Zhou family in the future, you must be responsible for Zhou’s Jewelry. Your mother and I both hope you can take over and hold up our Zhou Family!”

Zhou Zhen, hearing his father’s words, finally came to his senses and understood his grandfather’s intention to bring Zhou Yan back to the country.

He clenched his fists tightly, blaming everything on Su Qingqing.

If it wasn’t for Su Qingqing, how would Zhou Yan have been recalled to the country, how would there be someone to contest with him for the ownership of Zhou’s Jewelry? It was all because of that bitch Su Qingqing that he was reduced to this state!

So it goes to show that sometimes there is a reason why certain people end up together. As the saying goes, a broken pot finds a shattered lid; it’s not without foundation that one doesn’t enter a family if they’re not one of them. This fully proves the scientific basis of some proverbs.

Ye Zixin blamed all the faults on Su Qingqing, and Zhou Zhen firmly believed that his misfortune was entirely Su’s fault.

Su Qingqing insisted she was truly innocent, truly having done nothing at all.

…

In a laboratory at Di Du Medical University, Wu Jingyi held a surgical knife in her hands, struggling as she looked at the frog on the table that had been anesthetized with ether, unable to bring herself to make the cut.

“With such a small courage, how did you get into our school? If you can’t even dissect a frog, how are you going to be a doctor in the future? I think you might as well drop out and go back to your country home and farm!”

The mocking voice of her roommate echoed in her mind, and a flash of humiliation and resentment passed through Wu Jingyi’s eyes. With determination, she plunged the surgical knife into the frog’s belly, cutting into it with a grunt, and blood poured out.

Shocked by this bloody scene, Wu Jingyi’s mind went blank, she panicked, threw down the knife, and rushed to the washbasin, retching.

At that moment, her cellphone suddenly rang. Seeing the caller ID, a struggle and revulsion flickered in Wu Jingyi’s eyes, and she hesitated for a few seconds before answering the phone.

“Jingyi, I have good news for you! A big client is coming to the club tonight, said to be the future heir of the Imperial Capital Liang Family.”

An eager female voice came from the other end of the line.

Upon hearing this, Wu Jingyi stiffened, her eyes suddenly sparkling with light: “Really?”

“Have I ever brought false news to you? You know Sister Chen is a trustworthy person, otherwise, I wouldn’t have gone out of my way to help you when I knew you were short on tuition fees.” Sister Chen’s voice was filled with glee, clearly holding high expectations for Wu Jingyi.
