Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 152: Chapter 149 The Liang Family Eldest Grandson

“Ningning, how come Mr. Gu from Shengtang is with you?”

Just as Su Qingqing and Du Yuanwei finished examining the rough jade materials and turned around, they bumped into Huo Sining and the others.

Seeing Gu Xu following behind Huo Sining and another, Su Qingqing was full of wonder.

Huo Sining’s heart skipped a beat, and without making a sound, she shook her head and glanced back at a certain someone.

Bai Yishan, on the other hand, seemed to have noticed something and measured Gu Xu with thoughtful, squinting eyes.

Gu Xu, holding several pieces of rough material, followed behind Huo Sining and the others with the demeanor of a gentleman, his eyes unblinkingly fixed on Huo Sining.

While Huo Sining and the others wanted to take a closer look at a few more openly marked pieces, Su Jinyuan seemed to have discovered something and hurriedly phoned Du Yuanwei, “Come to the hidden bid area, number 2547.”

Before Du Yuanwei could ask more, Su Jinyuan had hung up the call.

Not understanding what exactly had happened but hearing the urgency in Su Jinyuan’s voice, as well as the noisy clamor in the background of the call, Du Yuanwei thought something had happened in the hidden bid area and without a second thought led everyone hurriedly to the area Su Jinyuan had mentioned.

They had just reached number 2547 when they saw a crowd gathered, seemingly locked in a heated argument. Du Yuanwei quickly approached and upon closer inspection, he realized these people weren’t fighting but were discussing the hidden bid for number 2547.

Seeing Du Yuanwei leading Su Qingqing and the others over, Su Jinyuan quickly made his way out of the crowd and pulled Du Yuanwei into it, squeezing through as he said, “Come take a look at this bid.”

Su Qingqing also squeezed in, while Huo Sining and Bai Yishan seemed to have no interest in joining the commotion. Huo Sining’s original target wasn’t the hidden bids, so she wasn’t particularly interested in the jade materials of the hidden bids.

For Huo Sining, the real plan was to make an unnoticed killing and profit quietly; naturally, crowded places weren’t her scene. The fact that so many were looking at bid number 2547 suggested it was performing well, and many were willing to gamble on it—this was not Huo Sining’s choice.

Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian were also in the crowd, seemingly struggling with the decision over that piece of raw jade. Gu Xu, instead of joining them, followed Huo Sining. Seeing her forehead and the tip of her nose sweaty, he was moved and, without a second thought, pulled out his handkerchief from his pocket and handed it over.

A pleasant scent of fresh grass entered her nostrils, and a flash went through Huo Sining’s vision as a pale green handkerchief with gray stripes came into view.

Huo Sining paused, and following her gaze, she saw the uncomfortable expression on Gu Xu’s face.

“The weather is kind of hot… it seems like they didn’t turn on the air conditioning here… you should drink more water…”

Gu Xu offered a few dry explanations, but failed to convey his meaning properly.

However, Huo Sining understood what he meant. She instinctively wanted to refuse Gu Xu’s kindness and planned to wipe the sweat from her forehead with her hand, but upon raising her hand and seeing the dust and dirt from touching the stones earlier, she realized that if she wiped with her hand, she would probably end up with a dirty gray face.

Now Huo Sining felt awkward and gave an embarrassed smile.

Gu Xu’s hand still persistently extended, and feeling somewhat helpless, Huo Sining hesitated for a moment before accepting the handkerchief, whispering a soft, “Thank you.”

As the handkerchief touched her forehead, the scent of fresh grass became even stronger, causing Huo Sining’s body to stiffen unconsciously as those fragmented memories shamelessly surfaced in her mind once more.

Her torn dress in tatters, drugged, she felt her cheeks flush with heat but couldn’t control her own body, wanting only to press closer to the man by her side.

Although the scene was chaotic that day, when she uncontrollably embraced the man’s formidable figure, her lips pressed against his slightly cool lips, she was vividly aware, recognizing the fragrance that was so familiar it seeped into her bones.

The scent of fresh grass was sometimes strong, sometimes faint, and while it seemed insignificant when not noticed, once caught, it seemed to hold an inexplicable allure.

Her heartbeat suddenly accelerated, thumping—thumping—thumping—

The scene of their lips and teeth entwined seemed as if it were still before her eyes.

Huo Sining’s face flushed red in an instant, and she glanced at the man in front of her with a guilty heart, hurriedly lowering her eyes to hide her discomfiture and embarrassment.

Gu Xu didn’t understand how to pursue a woman, but he was acutely observant of people’s expressions. He noticed Huo Sining’s blushing face in an instant and was very pleased with her reaction, feeling some joy in his heart, and the corners of his mouth unconsciously curled up a bit.

Gu Xu felt that the atmosphere was just right and was thinking about opening up his heart to Huo Sining, but, unexpectedly, at this moment, someone came and disrupted the moment.

“Young Master Gu, how come you’re here too?”

A man emerged inopportunely from the crowd, rushing over to Gu Xu with excitement.

Gu Xu was immensely annoyed at being interrupted at such a moment, and his gaze immediately turned frosty as he looked at the newcomer with a trace of displeasure, “Who are you?”

His words were far from polite. The man’s facial expression stiffened for a moment, but he quickly recovered, smiling, “I am from the Imperial Capital Liang Family, have you forgotten, Young Master Gu? Last year, when my elder celebrated his seventieth birthday, you came over as well, and we even had a drink together.”

Bu on, yet this man in front of him deliberately overstated the facts, clearly intent on cozying up to Gu Xu.

One would drink with dozens, if not hundreds, of people at a birthday banquet; no one would remember such an insignificant detail.

Gu Xu inwardly scoffed but paused slightly when the man mentioned the two families of the Imperial Capital.

Suddenly, it seemed like he’d thought of something. He glanced at Huo Sining without changing his expression and asked, “Are you Liang Jinhong?”

“Young Master Gu indeed has an excellent memory, even remembering my name.” The man before him indeed knew how to seize an opportunity. Seeing Gu Xu standing in front of marker 2547, his eyes quickly shifted, and he came up with an idea, “Young Master Gu, are you here to look at the gemstones for gambling? Coincidentally, I brought a professional today. How about I let the master give you some advice?”

Gu Xu frowned. He already had a poor impression of the Liang Family People. In the past few years, the Liang Family had been increasingly inept, and the internal family strife was a mess, leading to several scandals in high society that made it the butt of many jokes.

That already troubled him, but when he was investigating Huo Sining’s background, he unexpectedly uncovered a connection to the Liang Family. He hadn’t expected the seemingly honorable elder Liang to have such a scandalous youth—it was utterly modern-day Chen Shimei, a classic example of someone who appeared virtuous but was far from it.

d a daughter.

The man standing before him was the eldest grandson of the Liang Family’s third generation, and also the only male offspring of the Liang Family.
