Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 180: Chapter 177: The Dog Treasure

“No wonder you’re so sick; your heartless owner must have thought you were dying when he saw you like this and that’s why he abandoned you. If he knew you had a ‘Spiritual Energy Stone’ inside, he wouldn’t have thrown you away—might have even killed you to get the stone out and sell it for money!”

The ‘Spiritual Energy Stone’ constantly draws the essence from the dog’s body as it resides in its stomach. The larger the stone grows, the weaker the dog becomes.

If the foreign object is not removed from the dog’s body soon, it can only slowly sap away the dog’s vitality, eventually leading to a slow, painful death.

But to remove the ‘Spiritual Energy Stone’, surgery is necessary, and this little dog is so small, it’s uncertain whether it can survive the operation.

Huo Sining sighed deeply in her heart. Knowing that the puppy’s stomach contained a ‘Spiritual Energy Stone’, she felt not even a hint of joy, only overwhelming pity and concern.

While driving, Qin Shaoyou kept an eye on Huo Sining’s reactions. Seeing her sighing, he assumed she was worried about the safety of the puppy in her arms, and after some thought, he spoke up to reassure her:

“I know there’s a small town ahead with a veterinary clinic, but I’m not sure if the doctors there are qualified. It will take us at least another hour to get back to the city, and I don’t know if this dog can hold on that long. I think we should go to the clinic first for some simple first aid.”

As he spoke, Qin Shaoyou gave the dog another glance and laughed, “This dog has a strong will to live; I see it’s quite spirited. It’s likely that the external injuries just look frightening, but there shouldn’t be a major problem.”

These words were meant to comfort Huo Sining, but as he spoke, Qin Shaoyou himself started to feel that something wasn’t right.

The dog had seemed seriously injured before, so how come it now looked fine as if nothing happened? Could it really be that fortunate and resilient?

With this thought, Qin Shaoyou couldn’t help but look at the young pup with suspicion.

As if sensing the scrutiny and doubt in Qin Shaoyou’s eyes, the puppy suddenly bared its teeth at him, displaying a fierce glare.

“Wow, this little beast is quite fierce!” Qin Shaoyou scoffed, “With your tiny size, just look at how tough you’re acting!”

Huo Sining soothed the puppy in her arms, and the little guy seemed to enjoy it, comfortably lying down under the caress of Huo Sining’s right hand and squinting its eyes.

The car soon arrived at a veterinary shop on the outskirts of the city, a junction between urban and rural areas. Not only did pet owners from the town come here to treat their pets, but villagers also often came with their poultry and livestock issues, making the veterinary shop quite busy.

Huo Sining carried the puppy inside, and since the puppy was covered in bloodstains, the shop owner mistook it for a severe injury and hastily dropped what he was doing to have someone check on it.

Soon, a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties came over with an emergency medical kit, wanting to take the pup from Huo Sining’s arms.

The puppy trembled all over, growled softly while struggling slightly, but refused to cooperate.

The middle-aged vet didn’t seem concerned, letting Huo Sining hold the pup as he quickly examined its condition, then let out a sigh of relief.

“The wounds on its body don’t seem severe, just some superficial skin injuries. However, the dog’s fur color is abnormal, I’m afraid it might be infected with distemper or some other disease. I’ll give it a further examination.”

Seeing the puppy weak and restless with messy, disheveled fur resembling dry grass, the veterinarian seemed to sense something. He extracted a stethoscope from his medical kit and began examining the puppy’s body. When he reached the puppy’s abdomen, his hand paused for a moment, then swiftly moved the diaphragm away.

A regular person might not have noticed this unusual scene, but Huo Sining, who had suspected that the puppy’s stomach contained a ‘Spiritual Energy Stone’, had been on edge, especially vigilant upon entering the veterinary shop.

Every veterinarian is shrewd. They can definitely see the symptoms a dog would show after a “dog treasure” starts growing in its stomach.

Seeing the veterinarian pause and his eyes flicker, Huo Sining immediately realized that this person must have found something fishy inside the puppy!

Huo Sining waited for the veterinarian to inform her of the diagnosis, but to her surprise, after putting away the stethoscope, the middle-aged doctor pretended to ponder before saying with a troubled look,

“The injuries on this dog can be washed with liquid medication and treated with some wound medicine; that should be fine. However, there are some complications. Your dog must have come into contact with pathogens; right now, it has a severe lung infection. If surgery isn’t performed soon, given the situation, I’m afraid this dog won’t make it!”

Wasn’t it growing a “dog treasure”? How did it turn into a lung infection? When she was transferring “Spiritual Energy” to the puppy in the car, how did she not notice any problem with its lungs?

Huo Sining was stunned for a moment, but after thinking it over, she understood the hidden agenda of the doctor.

She couldn’t help but sneer inwardly. This doctor was probably trying to mislead her, even exaggerating the puppy’s condition to make her agree to have the surgery done right here and now.

Surgery? If I agree to it, are you going to use the opportunity to sneak out the “dog treasure”?

Qin Shaoyou, who was unaware of the scrupulous doctor’s scheming for the “dog treasure,” heard that surgery was mentioned, his expression became serious, and he asked, “Can the surgery be performed right now? How long will it take, and how much will it cost?”

The doctor smiled and said, “It’s just a minor surgery, just need to drain the fluid from the chest cavity, about half an hour should be enough. The surgery will cost a thousand yuan.”

Qin Shaoyou hesitated slightly upon hearing this. The dog was obviously a mixed breed; was it worth spending a thousand yuan on surgery?

“No wonder the dog’s owner abandoned it. A surgery costs a thousand yuan, and moreover, with such a young puppy, it’s uncertain if it can even survive. If it’s not viable, why treat it, just let it fend for itself?”

Qin Shaoyou suggested softly to Huo Sining.

Huo Sining glared at Qin Shaoyou, who was supposed to be a role model, and thought how could he be so petty over a thousand yuan, really…

With a smile that was not quite a smile, Huo Sining looked at the doctor and said, “Let’s not bother with surgery, just please apply some Yunnan Baiyao and bandage it up for now, I’ll take it back to the city and see from there.”

The doctor’s smile froze upon hearing her words, and he hesitated for a good while before responding.

Huo Sining knew this doctor was up to no good and couldn’t help but snort, “If you’re reluctant, just give me the wound medicine and a bandage, I can do it myself!”

The doctor’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing this, and after coming to his senses, he looked at Xie Junwan with a complex expression, concealing the darkness and resentment in his eyes, and unwillingly turned to fetch a bottle of Yunnan Baiyao and a roll of bandages.

Although the puppy was not old, it had sharp instincts and probably sensed the veterinarian’s ill intentions. When he approached Huo Sining, the young dog was already staring fiercely.

The veterinarian was unconcerned and reached out to hold the dog.

Unexpectedly, at that moment, the puppy suddenly lunged, ready to bite the veterinarian.
