The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

When Shu Yu came out from the palace, his expression was a bit complicated.

Seeing this, Meng Yunzheng couldn’t help but laugh and say, ”What, do you feel it’s inappropriate for the Emperor to acknowledge our daughter as his honorary daughter?”

”Not really.” Shu Yu sighed, leaning against the shaky carriage, and said softly, ”I just feel that Mianmian already has so many people doting and pampering her. Now, with the two most esteemed figures as her backing, won’t she be over the moon?”

Meng Yunzheng, ”...”

He glanced at his daughter, who was holding palace pastries and clinking cups with Huohuo, and laughed, ”You’re overthinking it. With us around, we definitely won’t let her stray down the wrong path.”

Shu Yu chuckled, ”Let’s correct that, take out the ’us’.”

He should also consider his demeanor as a doting father; when Mianmian acts spoiled, all principles are forgotten.

Meng Yunzheng touched his nose, no longer daring to speak.

The next day, as expected, the Emperor issued an Imperial Decree during the court assembly, elaborating on the accomplishments Meng Yunzheng had achieved over the years. Besides some rewards of gold, silver, and jade artifacts, Mianmian was adopted as an honorary daughter, along with a decree granting great power to Meng Yunzheng.

The officials in the court were deeply shocked. Four years ago, when Meng Yunzheng resigned from his official duties after becoming the top scorer and had a conversation with the Emperor, most people had already guessed that the two shared a close connection and speculated that Meng Yunzheng might have contributed to the Emperor’s ascension to the throne.

However, this matter had never been mentioned by the Emperor, and Meng Yunzheng smoothly returned to be the Mountain Master, as if the matter had simply passed without further mention, leaving a deep sense of doubt among the people.

Who would have thought, four years later, the Emperor suddenly brought up the matter again, not only announcing Meng Yunzheng’s achievements but also affirming the contributions he and Shu Yu made during the rebellion of the Second and Third Princes.

Qi Chan found it most regrettable that if Meng Yunzheng had not resigned back then, with his status as a top scorer winning six rounds, and coupled with these years of accomplishments, by now he would surely have been promoted to high-ranking positions, advancing several grades.

After this day, Meng Yunzheng’s residence was no longer peaceful.

Visitors came wave after wave, some straightforwardly came to congratulate, while others subtly expressed their desire to discuss teaching matters with the Mountain Master.

These people all understood that even though Meng Yunzheng was not an official in the imperial court, the Emperor had never forgotten him; furthermore, his status in the Emperor’s heart was quite extraordinary.

In the days following, Meng Yunzheng mostly stayed at his residence.

Shu Yu, wearing a curtain hat, took Mianmian to visit those old acquaintances in the capital.

The little girl, just from receiving gifts, nearly got worn out. She still didn’t know about her status change to Little Princess, only felt she had met too many people and her mind was becoming overloaded.

So Shu Yu simply took her out of the city for fun, together with Huohuo, Doudou, and Fang Xiyue’s child Ma Wen. A group of lively yet energetic kids nearly shook apart the carriage.

As Shu Yu was nearing exhaustion, the Scripture Reading finally started.

This Scripture Reading was the first since the Emperor’s ascension, and though it was called a Scripture Reading, it was actually more of a grand cultural exchange and discussion event, hence exceptionally magnificent. The teaching lasted for three days, uninterrupted.

After which, there would be a formal Scripture Reading system. By then, it wouldn’t be as grand as this time but would become a routine.

The location for the teaching was in the Imperial Palace; Meng Yunzheng, Mr. Hejiang, and others set out early.

Shu Yu then took several children, along with the students from Zhenglu Academy, to Haina Tea House.
