The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu hadn’t said anything yet when Little Mianmian eagerly pointed at Doudou and said, ”Brother Doudou is prettier.”

The Empress glanced over and smiled so broadly her eyes almost disappeared, ”You’re so little, yet you already know who is the prettiest?”

”Yes.” Little Mianmian nodded firmly, ”My eyes are big, I can see clearly.”

”Hahaha.” The Empress was thoroughly amused, holding the little girl and reluctant to let go, ”County Lord Lu, I really want to keep this little girl in the palace and not let her go.”

Although realizing the Empress was just joking and wouldn’t really do so, Shu Yu’s heart still skipped a beat.

She didn’t show anything on her face, just smiled and said, ”Her Majesty Empress doesn’t know, this little girl is so troublesome when she starts to cause a ruckus, she could tear the whole house down.”

Mianmian protested, ”I didn’t, I’m little and weak. I only, only tore down Maneki’s nest.” Her voice faltered weakly at the last word.

Shu Yu said, ”Her Majesty also heard, she tore down the cat’s nest, which she herself admitted.”

The Empress couldn’t contain her laughter and asked Mianmian, ”Are you saying that if you were stronger, you’d really tear the place down?”

”No problem.” The little girl said seriously, ”I have grandpa, he builds houses. Grandpa said if I tear it down, he would repair it.”

The Empress was speechless.

She hesitated for a moment and then laughed even harder.

The nanny beside her was worried she might laugh so much her stomach would hurt, so she quickly offered a cup of tea, ”Your Majesty, don’t you have matters to discuss with County Lord Lu?”

The Empress waved her hand and took a while to calm down.

Half-hugging Mianmian, she looked up and smiled at Shu Yu, ”County Lord Lu, I’d like to adopt Mianmian as a goddaughter, what do you think?”

Shu Yu was taken aback and instinctively refused, ”Your Majesty, this, this is absolutely not possible, how could Mianmian be worthy...”

The Empress raised her hand, ”County Lord Lu, don’t be quick to refuse, listen to me first.”

How could Shu Yu not be anxious to refuse?

What was the Empress suddenly thinking, wanting to adopt a goddaughter out of nowhere? Surely she wasn’t trying to win them over, was she? They didn’t want to be involved in court matters at all and in a few years when the Empress’s children grow up, having Mianmian as a goddaughter, who knows what price she might have to pay.

Not only was Shu Yu worried, but even Xiao Ruojun was somewhat concerned.

Yet, since the Empress had spoken, the two could only listen to her continue.

Who would have thought the Empress would say, ”This is the Emperor’s idea.”

Shu Yu was stunned, ”Why?”

”We all know that during the southwest expedition, dealing with the remnant of the Second Prince, your contributions were indispensable. However, at the time of awarding merits and rewards, everyone else was rewarded while the Emperor has yet to issue a decree for you all.”

In fact, the Emperor had asked Meng Yunzheng, however, neither Meng Yunzheng nor Shu Yu had any requests.

The Emperor decided to hold onto the reward for now, as he and Meng Yunzheng had a three-year agreement. The military order made in front of the civil and military officials worried the Emperor that Meng Yunzheng might not fulfill it.

Since they didn’t need the reward back then, perhaps they might require it three years later.

However, Zhenglu Academy achieved unexpectedly good results in last year’s examinations, and the reward was still unused.

This time, Meng Yunzheng finally brought his entire family to the Capital.

The Emperor knew Meng Yunzheng’s daughter was his pride and joy, surely rewarding her is never wrong.

Of course, adopting her as a goddaughter is just one part of it.
