The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Upon seeing Kang Shuxian, Qiao Rou first offered congratulations and then asked about her recent years in detail.

With the sisters talking, it wasn’t appropriate for Yuan Gui to stick around.

He played with Qiao Rou’s two children for a while before getting up to go to the Office to find Lu Wu.

Lu Wu had just finished training and was covered in sweat, so he quickly went for a shower before coming out.

“I’m going to ask the county magistrate for leave; let’s go have a couple of drinks.”

“Alright.”

When Lu Wu came out again, he was carrying two bottles of wine. He smiled and said to Yuan Gui, “I just got this wine not long ago. You know I have two kids at home, so I don’t dare drink at home, and can only keep it here. I originally thought the wine would be opened first by those eager to drink, but it’s actually fallen into my hands. Come on, come on, I’ll take you to the old spot.”

The two chatted while walking, and Yuan Gui turned back to glance at the county office.

If Tang Wenqian were still there, he would go in and say hello.

Unfortunately, Tang Wenqian resigned last year.

After chatting with Meng Yunzheng back then, Tang Wenqian made up his mind, but probably only Meng Yunzheng and his wife, who noticed something, knew of this decision; others weren’t aware.

Over the years, Tang Wenqian had diligently served as the parental official, eager to get things done.

Moreover, Chenggu County was quite special, attracting much attention from both the Emperor and Qi Lie, and Tang Wenqian also had Xiang Weinan above him, thus over the years, Chenggu County truly became more prosperous under his management.

Given his abilities, after a few more years of experience and with Xiang Weinan’s recommendation, he was surely going to be transferred back to the Capital.

Yet last year, he unexpectedly submitted his resignation, shocking the Emperor, who thought he might be like Meng Yunzheng, wanting to pursue other things instead of properly leading.

Only after understanding that Tang Wenqian wanted to retake the scholarly examination to earn a legitimate Advanced Scholar title and re-enter the court did the Emperor relax.

Actually, thinking carefully, Tang Wenqian’s choice wasn’t impossible.

For a mere scholarly examination pass to be promoted is certainly not as legitimate as holding an Advanced Scholar title. Even if Tang Wenqian had Xiang Weinan to back him, he might still be criticized for his ‘inadequate credentials.’

The Emperor agreed.

However, the Tang family parents couldn’t understand, especially Madam Tang, who thought Tang Wenqian had gone mad.

She even felt that Tang Wenqian was opposing her, as a few years ago, after Shu Yu’s marriage, Madam Tang began pushing Tang Wenqian to quickly find a wife.

He was no longer young, already twenty-five by then. Who remains unmarried at such an age? If not for being an official, people would have gossiped about him long ago, likely drowning him in spit.

Madam Tang believed Tang Wenqian must still be thinking about Shu Yu and even wanted to go to Dongan Province to ask Shu Yu to persuade him.

Tang Wenqian became annoyed and said he’d definitely find a bride within half a year, asking Madam Tang not to meddle.

Madam Tang quieted down for half a year, and in the fifth month, Tang Wenqian indeed decided to marry. However, the bride wasn’t the prestigious noble lady Madam Tang had expected. Clearly, her son was already a county magistrate, with plenty of noble ladies available for him to choose from, yet he deliberately chose a fatherless, homeless orphan girl.

By this time, Madam Tang was at her wit’s end; at least it’s better than him stubbornly refusing to marry.

An orphan is an orphan, she seemed quite capable, and Madam Tang couldn’t overrule Tang Wenqian, so she only hoped they would quickly have a child.

She planned to focus on taking care of her grandchildren afterwards.

Yet years passed, and there was still no news.
