The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Now Cheng Xian and Cheng Kangqi are no longer in a master-servant relationship as before; instead, their interaction seems more like a father and son.

Seeing them, Shu Yu smiled and greeted them.

Cheng Kangqi laughed, ”I hope the county magistrate has been well. I heard your child is here too, why haven’t I seen her?”

”She is quite lively and can’t stay in the inn. She went out to play with her brother.”

”It’s good for her to be lively; being too quiet can make it easy to be bullied.” Cheng Kangqi had also seen Mianmian before, just last year during Meng Han’s wedding when Shu Yu brought the child to the Cheng Family.

That little girl really inherited the strengths of her parents, being adorably warm and cuddly. Not just him, but his wife also said she wished to have such a little granddaughter.

Unfortunately, their eldest son was disappointing, having only two mischievous boys.

This time, Cheng Kangqi came mainly to discuss something with Meng Yunzheng. His younger son had taken the provincial examination the year before, and with good luck, he barely managed to become a scholarly examination candidate.

But when he went to the capital last year for the metropolitan examination, he still failed.

This was expected by the Cheng Family. Even though there was some disappointment, there wasn’t much sadness.

After all, not many people in this world are like Meng Yunzheng, who passed with top honors after just one try. Most have to take the exam several times before they achieve high ranks, and for someone so young from the Cheng Family to already be a scholarly candidate, it’s quite rare.

The Cheng Family was not discouraged, and after their younger son’s return from the capital last year, he traveled around and only returned at the end of the year.

This year, Cheng Kangqi wanted him to study at Zhenglu Academy. With guidance from Meng Yunzheng and the two great scholars, his chances of success in future exams would greatly increase.

That is why he came today.

Meng Yunzheng had no objections, ”With his aptitude and character, there is no problem entering Zhenglu Academy. We are going to the capital this time, so you can send him directly to Zhenglu Academy. Mr. Huai’an is still at the academy. I’ll give you a letter for him to hand directly to Mr. Huai’an.”

Cheng Kangqi stood up solemnly and bowed, ”Thank you.”

”Uncle Cheng, there’s no need to be so polite. I know your son, and when the Cheng Family was imprisoned, his fearless and resolute expression, even hiding a blade ready to end his own life if necessary, left a lasting impression on me. Even without my letter, he would have no problem being admitted.”

Though he said that, a letter still made a difference.

Cheng Kangqi and Cheng Xian didn’t stay long before leaving.

After Shu Yu finished reviewing the accounts, she realized Mianmian and the others hadn’t returned yet. Just as she was about to go out to find them, she saw the little girl puffing her cheeks, stomping angrily as she entered.

Shu Yu asked in surprise, ”What happened? Who bullied you?”

”Those, those... bad people.”

Little Mianmian said as she ran to her little box, opened it, and began rummaging through it.

Shu Yu was puzzled and looked to Little Huohuo, who was also fuming.

She then looked at Song Le, who explained the situation, ”We went with our senior brothers to a tea house where a poetry gathering was happening. Many scholars were showcasing their works, including calligraphy and paintings. After Mianmian squeezed in to take a look, she claimed she could also paint and had one painting that was especially beautiful.”

Actually, when Little Mianmian said this, her voice wasn’t loud, but a young man who liked teasing children overheard it and immediately shouted it out.
