The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

The Emperor also gave Meng Yunzheng an Imperial Decree, akin to a ”pardon from death,” which would still hold significant power even if the Emperor is no longer there.

Such favor is absolutely unique for the present Emperor.

However, the Empress understands the Emperor’s intentions well.

Meng Yunzheng and the Emperor knew each other during their humble beginnings; when the Emperor was still the Fifth Prince, they charged through difficulties and faced many storms together.

This friendship from their youth is truly precious.

After the Emperor rose to power, Meng Yunzheng wisely retreated and resigned directly, without the slightest attachment, to return to his hometown.

Upon returning, he did not just wash his hands of it all. He became the Mountain Master, continuing to assist the Emperor in a non-threatening manner.

In the Emperor’s heart, Meng Yunzheng is sincere; unlike others who have changed over the years, he harbors no ambition for fame and fortune and has no selfish intentions towards the Emperor.

It can be said that Meng Yunzheng holds a more significant place in the Emperor’s heart compared to Qi Lie, Xiang Weinan, and others.

Such a person, who seeks nothing, makes the Emperor more inclined to give him everything.

The Empress is well aware that even though Meng Yunzheng is not active in the court and might not meet the Emperor for many years, the Emperor will never forget him and will remember him in times of benefit.

Now and in the future, it will include his children.

Much like this time, upon hearing Meng Yunzheng brought his wife and child, the Emperor immediately took an interest and, without even meeting Mianmian, directly had the Empress adopt her as a foster daughter.

This is not solely the Empress’s foster daughter but also the Emperor’s.

The Empress told Shu Yu, ”Today, I’ve given the County Lord a heads-up. Tomorrow, the Emperor will issue an Imperial Decree at the morning court. County Lord Lu need not worry; Mianmian is blessed with great fortune; having two more people to cherish her is not bad.”

Upon hearing this, Shu Yu sighed inwardly.

Since she was not involved in court disputes, and it was the decision of both the Emperor and the Empress, refusing would seem ungracious now.

She nodded, ”Shu Yu understands.”

She called Mianmian over, ”Henceforth, the Empress will be your foster mother; come, bow to your foster mother.”

”Oh.” Mianmian, not entirely understanding what was happening, had already completed the bow by the time she realized.

The Empress took out a jade bracelet, ”This is your foster mother’s meeting gift; take it. From now on, you will be an esteemed Little Princess of the Dasu dynasty.”

Mianmian, knowing jade is prone to shattering, dared not touch it. After gazing at it twice, she quickly had Shu Yu put it away.

Shu Yu felt helpless, but the Empress thought the child knew from a young age how to cherish gifts from others, showing good character.

She also gave Huohuo a jade pendant as a meeting gift.

Huohuo’s father, Zhao Xi, shared a deep friendship with the Emperor.

Back in the days when the Emperor was still the Fifth Prince, secret dangerous matters were common, and Zhao Xi was the dedicated doctor at the Fifth Prince’s residence.

The Fifth Prince had once been on the brink of death, and it was Zhao Xi who saved him.

During the southwest expedition four years ago, Zhao Xi also made significant contributions. His rewards had already been bestowed, with the Emperor giving him an imperial plaque.

In addition, the Emperor had someone transcribe a non-public medical classic from the palace and some rare precious herbs.

It is heard that Zhao Xi’s wife is pregnant again; once Meng Yunzheng and the others leave the capital, the Emperor will likely have them take back numerous supplements.
