The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Mianmian stretched out her little hand and patted his shoulder. ”Big Brother, you really have it tough.”

”Right? I have to shoulder such a heavy burden at the age of one. If word gets out, it’ll move heaven and earth, and people will praise me as a model of filial piety.”

Mianmian propped her chin in her hands. ”I’m not having it easy either. I’m three, and I have to shoulder the burden of buying a house.”

”Ai.”

”Ai.”

The brother and sister sighed in unison. Sure enough, being the Young Master and young Miss of a wealthy household wasn’t all that easy.

Ying Xi, who had in fact been there all along without being noticed, was in the outer room beyond a curtain of beads, digging her fingers hard into the flesh of her own thigh just to suppress her laughter.

Honestly, ever since the little Miss learned to talk, her thighs had been covered in bruises.

There was no helping it. If she didn’t pinch herself, her laughter would run wild straight into the little Miss’s ears.

The two little cuties in the inner room were still chatting away—Mianmian asking questions, and Huohuo telling her everything he’d heard from his parents about the capital.

Slowly, the two of them got tired as they talked, and only then did their breathing even out as they drifted off to sleep.

That evening, when Ying Xi reported their conversation to Shu Yu, the latter rubbed her forehead, looked at her daughter under the veranda imitating Meng Pei’s punches, and chuckled quietly. ”Hard on her, having to worry about the family buying a house at such a young age.”

”Miss, I also heard the Young Master say that once he gets home today, he’s going to ask his father to let him go to the capital.”

Shu Yu froze, then suddenly turned to look at her. ”Huohuo wants to go with us too?”

”Yes.”

Shu Yu instantly had a bad feeling.

That feeling really did come knocking the next day. Zhao Xi came running in, hand in hand with Huohuo, grinning from ear to ear, and very solemnly said to Shu Yu, ”Second Sister, my Huohuo really wants to go play in the capital. Yesterday he reasoned with me and tugged at my heartstrings; I was moved by his words. I was thinking, Mianmian is still little—if Huohuo, this playmate, goes along with her, she won’t be lonely on the road. How about you take him along?”

Shu Yu’s mouth twitched. Zhao Xi pressed his advantage. ”Originally, Huohuo is my son. With a request like this, I should be the one personally taking him. But you know, your elder sister is pregnant again. At a time like this, I obviously can’t leave her side. So I can only entrust Huohuo to the two of you.”

Once he said that, Shu Yu really couldn’t refuse.

Her eldest sister’s pregnancy had been rather rough this time. The baby in her belly was giving her a much harder time than Huohuo ever did. Huohuo, this child, felt sorry for his Mother and would often talk to Shuyou’s belly, saying that the baby was tormenting her and that once he came out, he’d give him a good beating.

Shuyou could only smile helplessly at Huohuo. Unfortunately, the baby in her belly, perhaps sensing a threat, started making her reactions even worse. Huohuo, watching this, grew more anxious, and the more anxious he was, the more he threatened the baby.

So Zhao Xi simply arranged for him to board at the academy. At the beginning of the year, Huohuo had already been studying in the academy’s Enlightenment Class. On ordinary days, the servants would pick him up and drop him off, and when Zhao Xi wasn’t busy, he’d go pick him up himself.

Now, though, he had no choice but to let the boy live at school for a while.

Unfortunately, neither Shuyou nor Huohuo could stop worrying about the other. One was afraid he wouldn’t be used to living at the academy, and the other was worried his Mother’s health was getting even worse. So after only a couple of days, Huohuo moved back home again.

Therefore, the moment Zhao Xi heard Huohuo say he wanted to go to the capital, he dragged the boy along to find Shu Yu without another word.
