The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 997: Chapter 997: Madam Ruan and Her Daughter Wants to Go to the Prefecture

After Hua Xian finished speaking, Shu Yu motioned for her to leave.

Once everyone had exited the backyard, she turned to Ding Yuehua and asked, ”What do you think?”

”I trust Hua Xian.” To be honest, Ding Yuehua had spent less time with the old lady than with Hua Xian and didn’t thoroughly understand her character.

Besides, the overwhelming evidence in Hua Xian’s possession made disbelief impossible.

Shu Yu took a sip of tea. ”So, what do you plan to do?”

”Don’t worry. After all the effort it took me to separate from the family, get out from under the same roof with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, and finally enjoy some peace, there’s no way I’d let anyone ruin it. I’ll discuss it with my husband later and refuse the old lady’s request.”

”That won’t be so easy. She couldn’t do much while she was at the manor, but now, savoring this rare chance, she likely won’t hold back anymore.”

Ding Yuehua pondered deeply. ”You’re right; I need to think this through carefully.”

As she spoke, she genuinely started to think hard about a solution.

At that moment, Shuyou, who had just finished putting makeup on a guest, walked in.

”Yu, I heard from Grandmother that you’re here. I happen to have something to discuss with you.”

She greeted Ding Yuehua with a warm smile. Everyone knew each other, although Shuyou wasn’t very familiar with Ding Yuehua. Seeing her seeming distressed, Shuyou hesitated and glanced at Shu Yu in confusion.

Shu Yu shook her head. ”Don’t mind her; she’s contemplating something. Let’s talk over there.”

Shuyou nodded, and the two of them headed to the fitting room.

Shuyou had rushed over without even cleaning up after finishing the guest’s makeup.

As they placed items into drawers one by one, they chatted.

”Sis, what’s the matter you wanted to discuss?” Shu Yu asked while observing the makeup products. The amount used was substantial, indicating that more girls had come for makeup than she’d expected. It seemed her sister’s business had already begun to thrive.

”I wanted to ask when you’d have time in the coming days.”

Shu Yu thought for a moment. ”Tomorrow, I’ll visit the manor to check on the condition of the fields. Little Ya’er is almost fully healed and wants to go back to see her grandfather, pay her respects, and light incense. I’ll take her home as well.”

In truth, Little Ya’er had wanted to return on the seventh day after Uncle Cui’s death. But when Uncle Cui’s body was found, two days had already passed. After that, due to the investigation, his body was sent to the county office. By the time the case was concluded and Jiang Kuanyu arranged the burial, it was the sixth day.

At that time, Little Ya’er’s health was still very poor. Let alone returning, she had cried secretly out of grief and developed a slight fever.

Under such circumstances, it was impossible to send her back to the manor. Only now that she was better were they arranging for her to return.

Shu Yu said, ”I’ll head to the manor tomorrow and return the same day. The day after tomorrow, I don’t have any plans for now. Why?”

”In that case, can you help me oversee the shop for two days, the day after tomorrow and the day after that? I want to go to the prefecture with Mother.”

Shu Yu was surprised. ”To the prefecture? And with Mother? What for?”

Shuyou smiled. ”To buy supplies. Although there’s still some fabric left in the tailoring workshop, the higher-quality materials are running low. Ever since the shop reopened, business has picked up. Since we no longer cooperate with that old cloth shop, I think we should go to the prefecture to look for better fabrics. If I find the right ones, I’ll bring back a batch. And while I’m there, I can broaden my horizons, which might inspire me to design better garments.”

Her eyes sparkled slightly as she spoke about broadening her horizons.
