The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 961: Chapter 961: The Cause of Li Xiaoshan’s Death

Shu Yu had interrogated Ms. Tang yesterday, but she only confessed to the process of killing Uncle Cui.

Since they were in a hurry to find Little Ya’er, they didn’t have time to ask about the rest and left right away.

Now that Hu Li, an expert interrogator, was here, it seemed that all the details had been brought to light.

Sure enough, Hu Li began explaining the motive behind Li Xiaoshan’s murder.

”After Li Xiaoshan eloped with Ms. Tang, they initially felt quite satisfied because they had money in hand. But as you can see, without a travel permit, they couldn’t go anywhere. They couldn’t even start over in a far-off, unfamiliar place.”

Of course, if they had the courage to travel across mountains and avoid the guards, it wasn’t entirely impossible to escape elsewhere.

But the two of them didn’t dare. They stuck close to this Manor and went nowhere else.

Here, they had no freedom at all. Afraid of being discovered, they didn’t dare venture far or head to the county town. This place was also poverty-stricken—it was no different from being in prison.

Li Xiaoshan couldn’t take it anymore, especially after Uncle Cui was killed. There was no one left to even go out and buy grain. And there was the problem of Little Ya’er being missing. Uncle Cui’s body would inevitably be discovered sooner or later.

Ms. Tang suggested leaving this place, but even if they left, wouldn’t it be the same elsewhere?

So Li Xiaoshan thought about returning to Shangshi Village to find his wife, Madam Liang. After all, the Liang Family had already paid off the gambling den’s debt. Even if he went back, the gambling den wouldn’t trouble him.

Besides, Madam Liang had given birth to his son. If he went back and said a few sweet words, considering the child, the Liang Family would surely take him back.

He even suggested splitting the money and valuables they had taken with Ms. Tang.

Ms. Tang, of course, wouldn’t agree. She was the one who had killed Uncle Cui. While Li Xiaoshan could return, it was absolutely impossible for her.

She suspected that if Li Xiaoshan went back, he might not only reunite with his wife and child but also go to the Office to report her in exchange for a reward.

Ms. Tang knew Li Xiaoshan’s character very well.

The two had a heated argument. Ms. Tang, having killed once, found it much easier to do it a second time.

So, she killed Li Xiaoshan as well.

What she hadn’t expected was that Shu Yu and her group were right outside at the time and caught her in the act. If they had been even a moment later, this woman would have escaped with the money and valuables once again.

After finishing, Hu Li gestured toward a bundle in the living room. ”That over there is the property she stole from the Wang Family.”

Shu Yu went over to take a look. Sure enough, there was money and jewelry inside.

With a rough count, there was indeed more than 200 taels.

”Does this money need to be returned to the Wang Family?”

Hu Li nodded. ”Naturally, once this case is closed, the money will certainly be returned to its original owner.”

Shu Yu shot a look of disgust at Ms. Tang. These two had not only harmed the Wang Family, but also the Liang Family and the Cui Family. Yet neither of those families would receive any form of compensation.

Especially Little Ya’er, whose only close relative, the one she depended on, had been killed. She herself had barely survived and would now have to bear all the pain alone. She was only five years old.

Thinking of this, Shu Yu couldn’t resist going over and kicking Ms. Tang.

”Ah...” Ms. Tang shrank further into the corner.

Shu Yu exhaled heavily, then turned to ask Hu Li, ”When are you heading to the forest?”

Hu Li hesitated for a moment. ”Has the little girl woken up?”

Shu Yu shook her head. ”I don’t know. We left in a rush earlier and only heard from Uncle Hu that her fever had subsided and she was temporarily out of danger.”

Hu Li nodded. ”Alright, let’s go check on the little girl.”

He instructed the others to stay at the Cui Family’s house while he and Shu Yu, under the watchful eyes of the tenants, headed toward the Manor.
