The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 995: Chapter 995: Say a Couple of Words Alone

When Shu Yu first bought Hua Xian, there was something he didn’t quite understand.

At that time, the Eldest Young Master Fan had taken a liking to Hua Xian, but Hua Xian didn’t want to become a concubine. Logically, her first choice would have been to return to Old Mrs. Fan and let her make the decision.

But she didn’t do that; instead, she sought the old woman in charge who usually looked after her to come up with a plan.

A plan not to become a concubine—but not to avoid marriage altogether or to return to the Manor.

Now it’s clear. For Hua Xian, the Manor was not a pleasing memory. She didn’t want to go back. She’d rather be sold than seek help from Old Mrs. Fan.

Ding Yuehua listened in silence for a while. She couldn’t believe that the seemingly kind and benevolent old woman—the grandmother who greeted her with an amiable smile and offered her welcome gifts—was someone with a sanctimonious and malicious heart.

”Then... what does Hua Xian say?”

”My grandmother asked, but Hua Xian didn’t say anything. She only claimed she accidentally injured herself.”

How careless must one be to end up with so many injuries?

Ding Yuehua took a deep breath. ”Can I go and see Hua Xian?”

Shu Yu checked the time and realized it was still early. ”Let’s go. She’s been at Yiren Pavilion with my grandmother lately.”

Shu Yu informed Lu Erbai, who had just finished reviewing the blueprints. He had no objections and told Ding Yuehua to bring Shu Yu back afterward.

With that, the two headed straight for Ningshui Street.

The shop was bustling as usual, and by the time Shu Yu arrived, Daya was giving someone a makeover.

She had already mastered the ability to independently style people. After traveling through the southwest and experiencing the world along the way, which broadened her horizons, she had developed her own unique insights. She was no longer timid or hesitant like before.

Today, she was even more capable of confidently engaging customers in conversations and skillfully recommending clothes and facial cream.

Not wanting to interrupt Daya, Shu Yu headed directly to the backyard with Ding Yuehua, but not before asking Hua Xian to bring them two cups of tea.

The sunflowers in the backyard had been chopped down, leaving the area barren. However, it looked less crowded, and the stone benches that had been stored under the corridor were brought out again.

Hua Xian soon arrived with the tea. Shu Yu and Ding Yuehua exchanged glances as Shu Yu began speaking in front of Hua Xian. ”Now that your family has split up, your old lady plans to move back from the Manor to live with you. It’s actually a good thing. After all, it’s always better to have an elder at home. Look at how close my grandmother and I are. Who knows, next time you might even bring your old lady over to keep my grandmother company.”

Hua Xian’s hand holding the teacup suddenly trembled, almost causing the tea to spill.

Both Shu Yu and Ding Yuehua looked up at her simultaneously.

Hua Xian’s fingers tightened as her breathing grew a little hurried. She quickly lowered her head and apologized, ”I-I’m sorry, Second Miss, Third Young Madam, it was my fault for not holding it steady. I almost soiled the masters’ clothes...”

She kept apologizing but still avoided mentioning what Old Mrs. Fan had done to her.

Shu Yu waved her hand dismissively. ”It’s fine. You can return to the front of the shop to work.”

”Yes.” Hua Xian quickly took the tray and left.

Shu Yu gestured to Ying Xi, who immediately followed Hua Xian.

It didn’t take long for Ying Xi to return. ”Hua Xian seems very anxious. She’s been pacing back and forth, her face pale, and she doesn’t look well.”

Shu Yu nodded thoughtfully. ”Then let’s wait a bit longer.”

Ding Yuehua agreed, ”Alright.”

She had been keeping things hidden for a while now, so some hesitation was natural.

Sure enough, before long, Hua Xian returned. She pressed her lips together and lowered her gaze, not daring to look directly at Ding Yuehua. In a soft voice, she asked, ”Second Miss, may I speak to you alone for a moment?”

Shu Yu maintained a facade of ignorance and followed her to the corridor.
