The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 965: Chapter 965: Who is That Sister?

Zhao Xi carried the child into the room, and Ah Ning quickly followed him inside.

In the courtyard, only Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu remained. Watching Daniu at the door leading the mule carriage away, Meng Yunzheng finally asked curiously, ”What happened?”

”Didn’t I go to buy a manor yesterday? Ran into a bit of trouble...” Shu Yu recounted what had happened at the manor, and incidentally mentioned Hu Li’s plan to investigate the black market.

She couldn’t help but ask him at the end, ”Do you know anything about this?”

Meng Yunzheng nodded, ”Xiang Weinan told me about it.” He had even purposely passed by the woods outside to observe.

Shu Yu wanted to know his thoughts, especially about the person selling the mirrors.

But before she could ask, Meng Yunzheng lowered his voice and said, ”The Third Prince has probably made his move.”

Shu Yu was puzzled, ”Hm?”

”Forgot?” Meng Yunzheng looked at her amused. ”You mentioned letting the Third Prince ’discover’ the Second Prince’s lineage. That mirror that supposedly reflects the good and evil in someone’s heart is most likely the Third Prince’s handiwork, merely leveraging the situation.”

Ah right, the Second Prince is the son of Gong Qiu and the Noble Princess Consort. It’s just unexpected that the fire of this intrigue not only smolders in the capital but has even spread to Jiangyuan County.

Shu Yu sighed, and Meng Yunzheng thought she was worried. ”Do you still want to buy that manor?”

Shu Yu nodded, and Meng Yunzheng smiled, ”Don’t worry. Although the manor is close to the black market, this particular matter happened months ago. Those who fled to Jiangyuan County have already returned to the capital. Hu Li and his team are investigating just to see if there’s any unexpected gain. This won’t affect the manor.”

”Let’s hope Hu Li and his team find something useful.”

Meng Yunzheng chuckled, looking at her as if there was something he wanted to say but hesitated.

Shu Yu felt a pang in her heart, ”What’s wrong? Do you have something to tell me?”

”The situation in the capital is tense. Once Gong Qiu’s deeds are exposed, it will definitely involve me. When that happens, I’ll have to make a trip to the capital.”

He was Gong Qiu’s son. The affair between him, the Noble Princess Consort, and the Second Prince—once revealed—would make it impossible for Meng Yunzheng, as Gong Qiu’s son, to remain uninvolved.

Thus, before that happens, he must sever his ties with Gong Qiu and the Gong Family.

Shu Yu hurriedly asked, ”When are you going? Now?”

”Not yet, after some time.” At the very least, he had to wait until her Coming-of-age Ceremony was over.

Shu Yu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. ”Do you need my help with anything?”

”Don’t worry. If I need help, I won’t hesitate to ask you.”

Their Yu was bright and capable; of course, he wouldn’t exclude her from his plans.

While they were talking, Ah Ning came running over, ”Second Sister, who’s that little girl?”

Shu Yu patted her on the head. ”Her name is Little Ya’er, she’s a year younger than you. Her grandfather was harmed by someone, and she’s injured herself. Now she’s alone, sick, and has no relatives. Ah Ning, could you help take care of her for now?”

The little girl felt heartbroken as she listened and immediately nodded, ”I will. Brother Zhao said she’s not in immediate danger, but she shouldn’t be moved. She can rest here for now until she recovers before leaving.”

”Then I must trouble you all.”

”It’s no trouble.” The little girl turned and ran back inside in her usual lively manner.

With Little Ya’er entrusted to Zhao Xi, Shu Yu felt relieved.

But as she thought about Meng Yunzheng’s impending journey to the capital, she couldn’t help but grow anxious.

No, she had to hurry and finish her tasks. If conditions permitted, she would go with him.
