The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 992: Chapter 992: The Fan Family Divides

Ms. Mei narrowed her eyes and abruptly climbed down from the bed. ”Then let’s split the household. Once it’s divided, I’ll have full control over the money that belongs to the First Branch, won’t I?”

Ms. Yu was shocked and spun around. ”Sister-in-law, what are you saying?”

”Mother, the Third Brother has been married for half a year anyway. Since things have reached this point, we might as well split the household, don’t you think?”

The more Ms. Mei spoke, the more feasible she found the idea. Truth be told, she’d long had enough of having her mother-in-law running the household. If she wanted to spend money, she’d have to present a token to draw from the public funds. Not only was she constantly constrained, but at times she even had to dip into her dowry.

But splitting the household would be entirely different. Historically, in household divisions, the eldest branch always received the largest share. The portion she’d get wouldn’t just be 20,000 taels–it could be much more.

She could run her own household without interference and finally kick out that troublesome Third Branch. The thought alone was exhilarating.

Ms. Yu was against the idea, but apart from her, nearly everyone else present had thought about splitting the household at one point.

Third Young Master Fan sneered, ”Sister-in-law, are you sure about this? If so, let’s call Eldest Brother and Second Sister-in-law over.”

Before Ms. Yu could say anything, Third Young Master Fan had already sent servants to fetch them.

At this stage, the matter had clearly become internal to the Fan family, and Shu Yu saw no need to continue listening.

Watching Third Young Master Fan’s decisive manner and the seamless coordination between him and Ding Yuehua, Shu Yu suspected things would likely go their way.

Realizing it was getting late, Shu Yu stood up to take her leave. ”It seems I won’t be able to claim my money today. I don’t care how your family resolves this, but I’ll give you three days. If I don’t see compensation by then, I will have no choice but to go directly to the county office.”

Having said her piece, she gave the excited Ding Yuehua a knowing look, then left with Ying Xi.

When she stepped out of the Fan family’s main gate, she happened to see Eldest Young Master Fan hurrying back in a rush.

It was Shu Yu’s first time seeing the man. He appeared to be over ten years older than Third Young Master Fan, slightly overweight, and was already drenched in sweat after rushing around in a hurry.

Shu Yu only looked away once Eldest Young Master Fan had entered the house. In a low voice to Ying Xi, she made an observation, ”Going forward, I suspect it will be Third Young Master Fan who holds up the Fan family.”

Third Young Master Fan had the look of someone who could get things done, and with a capable wife like Ding Yuehua by his side, their combined strength would only lead to greater success—even if they didn’t get much wealth from the household division this time.

As for Eldest Young Master Fan, he seemed undisciplined, unproductive, and to top it off, had a wife who only dragged him down. His future, it seemed, would be a sight to behold.

All that was left was to wait and see the results of the Fan family’s division plan.

Shu Yu didn’t have to wait long. Three days later, as she was inspecting the progress of the renovations on her large house, Ding Yuehua approached her with Xiao Yun, both beaming with joy.

As a matter of fact, Shu Yu hadn’t fully toured this property yet. Now, as she explored the rooms, Ding Yuehua excitedly shared details from the day of the household division.

After Shu Yu left that day, Eldest Young Master Fan and Second Young Madam Ms. Mo were summoned for a discussion.

Of course, Eldest Young Master Fan was against it. Why split the household for no reason? If the news spread, it would be a laughingstock among others.

Putting on airs as the eldest brother, he began scolding Third Young Master Fan, who calmly replied that it was Ms. Mei’s idea. Eldest Young Master Fan was momentarily stunned.

What shocked everyone even more was that Ms. Mo, who usually stayed out of family disputes, agreed to splitting the household.

With two branches in favor, coupled with Ms. Mei being the instigator, Eldest Young Master Fan’s unwillingness was moot. Especially since refusing to split the household could lead to Ms. Mei taking the matter to the authorities, which was out of the question. Otherwise, whether it was him or the children, they’d all lose face in society.

Eldest Young Master Fan, already lacking decisiveness, seemed to have been persuaded by something Ms. Mei told him privately. In any case, all three branches were ultimately in agreement.
