The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 960: Chapter 960: Decide to Buy the Manor

Jiang Kuanyu suddenly raised her head, ”Negotiate? Negotiate about what?” She was still intent on buying the manor?

This time it was Shu Yu’s turn to look surprised, ”What do you mean by ’negotiate about what’? Isn’t it about hiring the tenants to work? We already settled that, agreed upon 1,400 taels for the deal.”

She furrowed her brow, ”You’re not planning to go back on your word, are you?”

Could it be that she found out I’m the Village Chief and assumed I had a lot of money to exploit?

Jiang Kuanyu shook her head vigorously, ”No, I’m not going back on my word, I’m just worried you’ll regret it. After all... after all, there’s just been a murder case. Most people would think it’s bad luck, wouldn’t they?”

Shu Yu suddenly understood, though she personally had no such thoughts — she had painstakingly searched to find this manor.

Actually, when she bargained yesterday, the reason she knocked off 400 taels so decisively was that she meant to leave Jiang Kuanyu some room for negotiation. Even at 1,500 taels or 1,600 taels, she would still buy it.

After all, finding a manor that fits her needs isn’t easy, especially since yesterday’s case led her to observe some things about the tenants.

Although the tenants’ families lived far apart, they helped one another. When Old Man Cui died, they were either saddened, reflective, or actively helping — not a single person spoke coldly or indifferently.

And when Little Ya’er was discovered missing, everyone immediately did their utmost to help search for her, even skipping dinner. Some were worried the girl might have fallen into the water — several individuals jumped in without hesitation to look for her.

What’s more, they were industrious and never stopped working, even while talking.

If Shu Yu were to hire workers, people like this would actually be quite suitable. Of course, she still couldn’t hire everyone. Once the manor was bought, she would have to pick and choose.

”So, Young Master Jiang, are you still selling this manor?”

Jiang Kuanyu nodded, ”Of course I’m selling it. As for the conditions I mentioned earlier...”

”I agree.”

Jiang Kuanyu let out a small sigh of relief, ”Alright, I’ll go retrieve the house deed and land deed shortly.”

After a pause, he added, ”Regarding the Cui Family’s matter, rest assured — even if I sell the manor to you, I’ll still handle their funeral arrangements properly.”

Shu Yu thought this person was indeed a man with conscience.

However, there were still details to be negotiated, and Shu Yu didn’t have time now. She needed to check whether Hu Li had set off toward the black market in the woods.

Thus, she said to Jiang Kuanyu, ”I’ll head to the Cui Family’s place soon. Yesterday’s deceased, Li Xiaoshan, is connected to an uncle of mine. I need to go and investigate.”

Jiang Kuanyu had no objections; he was concerned about the Cui Family’s situation too.

So after finishing breakfast, the group went together to the Cui Family’s residence.

As soon as Shu Yu entered, though, she saw Ms. Tang looking exceptionally haggard — not just haggard, but with fear and panic in her eyes.

She didn’t have any injuries on her body, but her mental state was dreadful. Her hands and feet were tied up, and she was curled into a corner, not daring to move.

Shu Yu walked over to Hu Li and asked, ”Did you already question Ms. Tang?”

Hu Li nodded, ”Yes, questioned her. She’s said everything she needs to — whether she should or shouldn’t.” He glanced at Ms. Tang and clicked his tongue, ”She even complained to me, saying you used torture on her.”

Shu Yu looked completely innocent, ”How could I possibly be that kind of person?”

Hu Li played along with her feigned innocence, ”Exactly. I also think she’s deliberately tarnishing your reputation.”

The two exchanged a knowing glance before quietly turning their heads to gaze off into the distance.

Shameless, truly shameless.

Shu Yu quickly regained her composure and asked, ”What did she confess to?”
