The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 966: Chapter 966: This is Really Good Stuff

Thinking about this, Shu Yu bid her farewell, ”I still have some things to take care of. I’ll come back to see you later.”

Even if Meng Yunzheng wanted to stop her, he couldn’t. He could only watch helplessly as she hurried out the door.

Shu Yu returned home to find Daniu and Third Lu still there. She grabbed a sip of water and then asked Daniu, ”You mentioned earlier that the sunflowers planted out front are ready for harvesting, right?”

”Pretty much. I was originally planning to start harvesting after we located the manor.”

Shu Yu nodded, ”Let’s go do it now.”

”Alright.”

Although Daniu didn’t know what had caused this sudden shift, Yu appeared to have become unusually urgent.

He immediately said something to the old lady and quickly got up to head out.

Shu Yu also dragged along a rather unmotivated Third Lu. ”You’re not going back to work today anyway, so you might as well come along and help.”

Third Lu wore a pained expression but was still pulled away by her.

The place they headed to was the ready-to-wear clothes shop on Ningshui Street, and the sunflowers Daniu planted were in the backyard of the shop.

In fact, that backyard was already quite small, but there was no other option. Daniu originally intended to plant them on half an acre of land in Shangshi Village. However, since he needed to manage the shop and couldn’t frequently return, he had no choice but to plant the sunflowers in the backyard here.

As a result, the backyard was now so crowded that there was hardly any place to set foot. As soon as the door was opened, a massive flower disk dangled right in front of them.

However, because the sunflowers were planted nearby, Daniu had the time and energy to care for them meticulously. As a result, the sunflowers had grown splendidly and without issue.

The typical growth cycle of sunflowers is about a hundred days, but since Daniu had planted them during an ill-suited season, their growth had been slow in the earlier stages. That’s why it was only now that they were ready to be harvested.

As soon as the three of them arrived at the shop, they headed straight for the backyard.

When the door opened, Third Lu let out a ”Wow” and looked up in amazement. ”This tall? Really?”

These were definitely taller than him by a large margin.

”Though they look kind of dry and scraggly? Yu, didn’t you say the flowers were beautiful? Who’s going to admire these?”

Daniu explained from the side, ”Third Uncle, that’s because the sunflowers are now mature. When the flowers first bloomed, they were golden and absolutely dazzling. Looking out across the whole row, it was truly stunning.”

”Then why didn’t you call me to come see them back then?”

Daniu, ”...”

Shu Yu, ”Alright, enough chatting. Let’s get to cutting down the flower disks.”

She tilted her head up, looking at the drooping flower disks. She reached out to touch one and couldn’t help but smile contentedly.

Sunflower seeds. Judging by how heavy these drooping flower disks were—nearly bending the stalks under their weight—the seeds inside seemed very plump.

Shu Yu plucked one out, peeled it open, and felt even more satisfied.

Seeing her do this, Third Lu immediately followed suit, plucking out a seed and popping it directly into his mouth.

”Mmm... it’s alright, but it’s kind of tasteless.”

Shu Yu glared at him. ”No sneaky eating allowed.”

Third Lu muttered under his breath, ”Fine, fine, I wasn’t that into it anyway.”

”That’s because they haven’t been roasted yet. Wait until we make them into five-spice seeds, walnut-flavored seeds, buttered seeds, or caramelized seeds. And don’t think you’ll get any then.”

”No way! I’m helping harvest these!” Third Lu reflexively swallowed as he imagined it, quickly grabbing a scythe and getting to work cutting down flower disks.

After cutting several, he suddenly paused. ”Hey, why are a few of these so short? Are they defective or something?”

Following the direction he pointed, Shu Yu’s eyes lit up even further. She eagerly strode over to examine those shorter sunflowers. ”No, these are the real gems here.”
