Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 184: Chapter 172: Lin Jiayou Moves into the Luo Family (Part 1)

By the time Luo’s Mom arrived at the hospital, the police had finished taking statements, and Lin Jiayou had entered the operating room.

”Mom.” Luo Qianqian threw herself into Luo’s Mom’s arms, ”Brother Lin is injured, he has lost a lot of blood, sob sob.”

Lin Xu looked at the blood on Luo Qianqian and Luo Shufan, frowning, ”Are you both alright? Why is there so much blood? Where are you hurt?”

Seeing Lin Xu, Luo Qianqian threw herself onto him, ”Uncle Lin, I’m sorry, it’s my fault Brother Lin got hurt; if we hadn’t gone for help, this wouldn’t have happened, sob sob.”

Luo’s Mom listened to her son recount the incident, and tears quickly filled her eyes.

”Don’t say that.” Lin Xu, who had been listening to Luo Shufan narrate the incident, sighed and lifted Luo Qianqian. ”Your Brother Lin did well; Uncle will reward him. If it hadn’t been for Brother Lin, Shufan would have been injured. Wouldn’t that have hurt you even more?” There was no blame on Lin Xu’s face, only a proud expression.

”Brother Lin is also Qianqian’s brother.” Luo Qianqian pouted, tears falling. ”Qianqian’s heart aches seeing Brother Lin hurt, losing so much blood. How many pig’s trotters and livers will it take to replace it?”

”With your calling him ’brother,’ your Brother Lin has not saved you in vain.” Lin Xu gently rubbed Luo Qianqian’s head, inwardly sighing about how good it was to have a daughter who was gentle and charming, unlike that troublesome boy who was always causing trouble; being in the operating room wasn’t a first for him, ”How about Qianqian brings Brother Lin food every day, okay?”

”Okay.” Luo Qianqian nodded heavily.

Soon, more people arrived; it was the Pei Family parents.

”I’m sorry, so sorry. We only found out when our son told us about the car following him, and it took some time to check into this. It’s all our fault; it would have been better to have dropped the kids at home.” Dad Pei held Lin Xu’s hand, his face full of self-reproach. Lin Xu paused, looked back at Luo’s Mom, and found her nodding before hesitantly shaking hands with Dad Pei, who obviously now took Lin Xu as the father of the Luo siblings.

Luo Qianqian sobbed on the floor while Mother Pei went to comfort Luo’s Mom. The Pei brothers also rushed up. Seeing the blood on the Luo siblings, they were shocked and started checking Luo Qianqian from left to right. It was only when Luo Shufan couldn’t stand watching his sister being tugged about by the two older boys that he intervened, ”Qianqian, sorry, we should have driven you home.”

”What’s meant to happen can’t be stopped,” Luo Shufan pulled his sister close and wiped the tears from her face, softly speaking.

”We will avenge you,” Yuhao clenched his fists, his face full of self-blame. It was his carelessness, forgetting the driver’s warning, that had put Luo Qianqian and his brother, and even a bystander, in danger. Thinking of this, Yuhao stepped forward, looking intently at Lin Xu, ”Uncle, I’m sorry, my carelessness is to blame. I will take full responsibility for the medical and nourishment expenses of the injured; I will explain everything.”

Dad Pei looked at his son proudly, pleased that his son was acting responsibly and manly at last.

Luo Qianqian, momentarily startled, looked at Lin Xu’s awkward expression and stepped forward to mediate, ”Yuhao, let me introduce you and your uncle and aunt to everyone: This is my and my brother’s mom, An Zilan, and this is the injured Lin Jiayou’s dad, who is also our mom’s fiancé, Lin Xu.” Seeing Yuhao’s astonished face, Luo Qianqian pulled Luo’s Mom to Lin Xu’s side, then introduced to Luo’s Mom, ”Mom, uncle, this is Yuhao, this is Yutian, they are twins; they’ve been very protective of me at school. They invited me and my brother for dinner today; this is Uncle Pei, this is Auntie Pei, not Yuhao’s brother and sister-in-law, don’t get confused.” Although she knew it wasn’t the time for jokes, Luo Qianqian was also very clear it was Lin Jiayou’s intention to let those gangsters take vengeance into their own hands, so the Pei Family couldn’t get involved.

Pei Yuhao was taken aback. He had been wondering why Luo Qianqian didn’t look anything like her father. So, it turned out that he wasn’t her biological father, but Luo’s Mom’s fiancé and Luo Qianqian’s stepfather? And the person who performed the rescue inside was Luo Qianqian’s stepbrother? No wonder the victim’s family hadn’t come.

”This matter doesn’t concern you,” Shufan glanced at his sister, and under her instructive gaze toward the operating room, he understood her intentions. If they handed the matter over to the Pei Family, they would undoubtedly let the perpetrator face the law or deal with them in their way. However, this wouldn’t pose any threat to the person behind the scenes. After thinking for a while, Shufan said, ”We appreciate your good intentions, but we don’t need that; we will handle Big Brother Lin’s matter ourselves.”

His firm tone left no room for doubts. Luo’s Mom was also struck by her son’s assertiveness. Pei Yuhao frowned, ”But...”

Luo Qianqian stepped forward, grabbed Pei Yuhao’s sleeve, and dragged him to the side. ”Don’t interfere. My brother has his plans, and we won’t be in trouble. This was just an accident.”

”Is that okay?” Pei Yuhao wanted to say more, but seeing Luo Qianqian and Shufan’s equally determined looks, he stopped and said, ”Then, if you need anything, just tell me directly. I’ll make sure it gets done.”

After reaching an agreement with Pei Yuhao, he discussed with Dad Pei and Mother Pei and paid the follow-up fees as a gesture of his goodwill.

Luo Qianqian stopped Lin Xu and Luo’s Mom and shook her head at them. Pei Yuhao was just trying to alleviate his psychological burden; she wouldn’t stop him, especially since the Pei Family wouldn’t have problems over such a medical expense.

”Qianqian, don’t take advantage of your classmate,” Luo’s Mom said, looking disapprovingly into Luo Qianqian’s eyes.

”Mom, if we don’t let him pay, he’ll feel responsible and think today’s incident was all his fault. He’s a boy; he should take some responsibility and know to escort girls home in the future,” Luo Qianqian playfully blinked, leaving Luo’s Mom speechless.

The operating room doors opened, and the doctor came out. Everyone quickly gathered around.

”There are no major issues; the vital parts weren’t harmed. He should recover fully with some rest,” the doctor reported.

Seeing Lin Xu heave a sigh of relief and continuously thanking the doctor, Luo Qianqian also felt relieved. She too had been under psychological pressure.

When Lin Jiayou was wheeled out of the operating room, his eyes were open. Seeing his dad, future mom, and little brother and sister all with teary eyes, he smiled, ”I’m fine, don’t cry.”

Seeing Lin Xu in this condition, Luo Qianqian hugged Shufan tightly; if those knives had struck Shufan, she would have been even more in pain. The thought of her brother possibly suffering was even more unbearable. Thinking this, she felt a deep fondness for Lin Jiayou, thankful that it wasn’t her brother who was hurt and grateful that the injuries weren’t severe. She felt fortunate that there were still people in this world who loved her.

”Brother Lin should stay at our place after he is discharged from the hospital,” Luo Qianqian hesitated for a long time before speaking up. ”We also bear some responsibility for this matter, and since Mom is getting married soon, we should take care of Brother Lin.”

Shufan nodded, thinking only of making arrangements for the current situation and never considering that his sister sincerely accepted this stepbrother because Lin Jiayou had shielded him with his body.
