Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 167: Chapter 156: New Arrival

After being well-fed for a couple of days, brothers Luo Yanhai and Luo Yanhao were about to return to the military base, but this time they didn’t have gloomy expressions because, accompanying them in the car, were their younger brother and sister. The sister’s bag contained nothing but snacks, as if she feared being shortchanged.

The Xu family’s issues had been resolved by Old Master Xu, and Luo Qianqian decided not to pursue the matter any further. Since Old Master Luo and Old Master Xu had to see each other often, there was no need to cause unnecessary upset. Old Master Xu had divided his property, and Xu Laoer and his family had moved out. Before leaving, Old Master Xu had enforced family discipline on Xu Laoer, leaving him covered in bruises. There was no need for him to come specifically to the Luo family to offer an apology, and even if he had been asked to, he wouldn’t have come. After everything was settled, Old Master Xu came to the Luo family, had a secret talk with Old Master Luo, and left satisfied. He even brought a bracelet for Luo Qianqian as an apology gift, but Old Master Luo kept it and gave Old Master Xu a disdainful look.

”Qianqian, are you okay living alone?” Luo Xisi mentioned that their squad was all male soldiers, and it just so happened that the medic assigned was also a male soldier, so Luo Qianqian was given a dormitory room alone with eight bunk beds, of which she occupied just one.

”It’s okay.” Luo Qianqian shook her head and obediently stood at the door. She used to sleep alone at home anyway, she wasn’t fussy about where she slept, so it didn’t matter.

Luo Shufan was dragged by Luo Yanhao to find Xu Tianyi, as Xu Tianyi was not training with Luo Qianqian and Luo Shufan, and they had to walk a long distance to find him. Luo Shufan didn’t allow Luo Qianqian to follow, so she could only take out some beef jerky and fruits for Luo Shufan to bring along, while Luo Yanhai stayed to help Luo Qianqian hide the snacks to prevent their dad, the district commander Luo Xisi, from finding and confiscating them.

Luo Xisi naturally wouldn’t expose his little niece’s tricks. After all, the food in any military unit wasn’t that great, and he worried she might not adapt and lose weight, which would definitely make the old man furious. Although he said he wanted to give her a proper training, Luo Xisi knew his father very well.

”You need to turn off your cell phone, this is a military zone.” Luo Yanhai saw his sister’s phone still glittering with light and gently reminded her.

”Oh, oh, okay.” Luo Qianqian hurriedly turned off her phone, sticking out her tongue.

”Does your face still hurt?” Although the swelling had gone down, Luo Yanhai still felt that his sister’s face was red.

”It doesn’t hurt anymore, it’s all healed.” Luo Qianqian obediently shook her head, for some reason always instinctively acting like a good girl in front of her big brother, the kind that wouldn’t dare to ruffle any feathers.

”That’s good, I’m going to get your uniform, and will come back to take you for a walk around. You can sort out your bed in the meantime.” The advantage of her sleeping alone was that Luo Qianqian’s bedding wasn’t the standard issue but a pink, single-bed, three-piece cotton set specially bought by her aunt, even the pillow was specially brought in. Luo Yanhai had mixed feelings about his mother’s taste, though indeed, such dull colors really didn’t suit girls.

”Alright, I’ll just wait here in the room,” Luo Qianqian emphasized, and Luo Yanhai left satisfied.

”Grandpa is really domineering, making me exercise despite my tiny arms and legs. I’ll have to settle accounts with grandpa if I turn into a muscle woman,” Luo Qianqian muttered softly while making her bed.

If Old Master Luo Guohui heard this, he would definitely laugh his teeth off, thinking becoming a muscle woman in just a few days is absurd; even dedicated training for several years might not make one a muscle woman, so she’s scared now, dreaming.

——

”Qianqian was hit?” Xu Tianyi was the first to ask after hearing so much from Luo Shufan. Luo Shufan didn’t know why, but he felt oddly comforted.

”Yes, her face was swollen like a bun,” Luo Yanhao was indignant, ”Your family’s sister, ah, I mean your sister, is really a barbarian.”

”She’s no sister of mine,” Xu Tianyi frowned, ”Is she alright now?”

”Who? Qianqian?” Seeing Xu Tianyi nod, Luo Shufan sighed, ”What could be wrong with her? She got hit and kicked, and then nothing happened, just her face was swollen for a couple of days. Grandpa sent her here to learn how to take a hit and run.”

”She should learn that,” Xu Tianyi said, staring at the snacks in Luo Shufan’s arms, a twitch forming at the corner of his mouth, wondering if those were for him.

Luo Shufan followed Xu Tianyi’s gaze and realized, ”This is from Qianqian, it’s too far, so I didn’t ask her to come over.”

Such a typical thing for a young girl to think of—bringing snacks. Xu Tianyi shook his head as he accepted them, ”How did you guys know I was here?” He was sure he hadn’t told anyone.

”Don’t you know what my family does?” Before Luo Shufan could answer, Luo Yanhao answered first. It seemed Luo Xiying, who had arranged the help, hadn’t revealed anything, so he felt relieved. He made a mental note regarding Xu Family, he’d be settling this account sooner or later.

”Aren’t you attending school?” Luo Shufan asked Xu Tianyi in a soft voice.

”How could I not?” Seeing the concerned look on Luo Shufan’s face, Xu Tianyi quickly waved his hand, ”I’ve taken a break, and I’ll take the middle school exams next year, then take a break and finish up the training here first.”

”You seem to have bulked up, you look sturdier.” Luo Shufan looked at Xu Tianyi enviously. His skin was slightly golden, his cheeks more resolute, the scholarly air still there, but he looked much healthier.

”Really?” Xu Tianyi asked with surprise.

”You do look different, have you grown taller?” Luo Shufan frowned as he measured Xu Tianyi’s height with his hand, ”Last time we had this much difference, now it’s less.”

Xu Tianyi touched his head and chuckled sheepishly.

”My sister would be relieved to see you now.” Luo Shufan smiled while looking at Xu Tianyi, ”You really have it tough at the Xu family.”

Thinking of Luo Qianqian feeling sorry for him made Xu Tianyi’s complexion turn slightly pale.

Seeing the change in Xu Tianyi’s expression, Luo Shufan thought over his words and after a long pause said in a peculiar tone, ”Qianqian doesn’t know, I didn’t tell her.” Seeing the thankful expression as Xu Tianyi sighed in relief, Luo Shufan’s expression became even more bizarre.

”It’s about time for me to head back, see you next time.” Hearing someone call out, Xu Tianyi hurried away with the stuff, suddenly paused, and floated back a sentence, ”Say hi to Qianqian for me.” Then he continued to speed away.

”Brother.” Luo Shufan glanced at Luo Yanhao with a weird expression.

”What?” Luo Yanhao blinked before responding.

”Why do I feel like Xu Tianyi has a crush on Qianqian?” Luo Shufan hesitated for a long time before finally voicing his thoughts.

Luo Yanhao looked at Luo Shufan, opened his mouth and said, ”You feel that too?”

”No way...” Luo Shufan’s eyes widened, being friends was one thing, there’s nothing wrong with that, but being his brother-in-law? He wasn’t prepared for that at all. Thinking that Xu Tianyi might have set his sights on his sister made him start to view him unfavorably.

”Short, weak, too aloof, no matter how you look at it, he’s not the right fit for Qianqian, such a good kid.” Luo Shufan counted Xu Tianyi’s flaws on his fingers, ”I don’t know what Qianqian thinks.”

”Don’t stir things up, Qianqian is still a kid, don’t make her think too much,” Luo Yanhao quickly stopped Luo Shufan’s eager motions, ”Just keep it quiet, watch and see, we’ll nip it in the bud if any signs show up,” he made a gesture across his neck as he spoke.
