The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

With the Crown Prince settled, the young ladies of eleven or twelve in the capital’s noble families have become precious. Everyone tacitly keeps their thoughts to themselves, and even if they bring them out, no one speaks of marriage proposals anymore.

Lin Guangxiong, when socializing with a few colleagues, also met a few little girls resembling his second daughter. He once joked about arranging a marriage, but people always brushed it off by saying the age is still too young and that they should wait for a few more years.

Now that Song Zi brought it up and combined with previous circumstances, isn’t it all aimed at the Crown Prince?

The Crown Prince, merely eleven or twelve this year, comes from a legitimate lineage of the Central Palace and is now rightfully the Crown Prince. This status is indescribably exalted. If chosen to be the Crown Princess Consort, it would mean immense wealth and honor.

And when the Crown Prince selects his consort, he definitely won’t choose just one official wife; there will surely be several positions like secondary consorts and concubines. What if fortune favors our family?

”What are you thinking about?” Song Zi nudged Lin Guangxiong, who was daydreaming, and looked at him askance, saying, ”You aren’t considering this as well, are you?”

Lin Guangxiong laughed, ”I have no such plans, but there’s nothing strange about Third Brother’s thoughts. When you socialize outside, you must have noticed that young ladies around the Crown Prince’s age are tacitly avoiding discussions of marriage.”

Song Zi fell silent.

She certainly noticed. The funniest thing was that she once fancied a little girl for her eldest son. The two families subtly had an understanding, but after the Longevity Festival, when she met that Madam again and mentioned their children, that Madam said the family’s ancestor was unwilling to part with her granddaughter and wanted to keep her a few more years before discussing marriage.

Everyone acts based on family interests.

This is reality.

Seeing Song Zi’s silence, Lin Guangxiong chuckled and said, ”Third Brother is just going with the flow. There’s no need to blame him. It’s not something he can aspire to just because he wants to; it depends on fate.”

Song Zi swallowed and glanced over, asking, ”And what about you? What are your thoughts? Are you also going with the flow?”

”Me? I’m indifferent. The key is to raise the child well, whether she is selected or not, that’s necessary.” Lin Guangxiong rubbed his teacup and said, ”The matter of the Crown Prince’s consort selection, I don’t think it will be decided so soon. It will probably drag on for a few more years. In these years, just focus on raising the child well. When socializing, carefully observe those outstanding talents. If there truly is one who is excellent, we’ll settle it for our daughter early. If not, we don’t rush.”

”Oh? That’s not aspiring?” Song Zi raised an eyebrow.

Lin Guangxiong gave a sheepish smile, ”It’s because my position is low, so I don’t entertain such a slim chance. If we do come across a once-in-a-lifetime outstanding young man, we should swiftly choose a good husband for our daughter, to avoid competing for a suitor after being passed over. If not, we’ll wait longer. If Zhilan has the providence of the Heavenly Family, that would naturally fall upon us, making it a two-pronged strategy.”

Song Zi’s expression softened, and she said, ”That’s what I appreciate about you: pragmatic and down-to-earth. Even Big Brother praises you.”

Lin Guangxiong was delighted, ”Really?”

”Would I lie to you?” Song Zi chided him with a glance and said, ”Big Brother said, you’re doing well like this, handling affairs diligently in your position. Don’t worry about being overshadowed for your achievements. Once you’ve accumulated enough contributions, you might even rise a rank, and then there’s Ming Hui and the others...”

She relayed Song Zhiyuan’s words.

Lin Guangxiong wore a broad smile, ”Next time I visit Mother-in-law and them, I’ll be sure to bring a couple of good jugs of wine to speak earnestly with Big Brother.”

Song Zi nodded and said, ”Husband, even if you remain at this rank, I don’t mind. We might have started at a lower point, but we have Big Brother. It’s fine to move slowly; the most important thing is to proceed steadily. If you rush, it’s easier to fall.”

Lin Guangxiong reached out to hold her hand and nodded solemnly.
