The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

It was mentioned before that there would be a marriage proposal in two years, and now they say to wait a few more years, there’s some contradiction—seems sketchy.

Song Ci vaguely feels something is off, glances at Song Zhiqing and sees his eyes flickering, a hint of sweat on his forehead—does this mean he’s guilty?

This little rascal, what’s he plotting?

Song Ci coughs and says, ”The Song Family’s daughters, when they come of age, we invite a nanny to the household to teach them discipline, which is proper. In the future, when they marry, they’d have some dignity and grace, ensuring people don’t say our Song Family lacks decorum.”

Song Zhiqing hurriedly bows his hand, ”Mother is right, that’s what I meant too, which is why I invited a nanny.”

Song Ci nods, ”A nanny from the palace naturally has some skills, if Wei’er learns a thing or two, she won’t have to worry in the future. Like her two elder sisters, marrying the first sons of large households as main wives, they hold their ground.”

Song Zhiqing’s smile stiffens slightly, what, as main wives?

Song Zhiyuan catches his expression, a coldness flashing across his eyes.

Song Ci continues to Song Zhiyuan and Song Zhicheng, ”Since all you brothers are here, I might as well discuss the future upbringing of our family’s daughters. When we decided the family rules before, it was to practice martial arts and strengthen the body when they come of age. Now the third child has reminded me, discipline is just as important and cannot be neglected. When the girls turn twelve, we should invite an old mama from the palace to teach them rules, so they don’t fall short in any occasion.”

”Mother is right.”

”Then it’s settled. Pay attention if there are any retired nannies from the palace, we should sponsor one or two at our manor, to teach the girls in the future.” Song Ci says, ”Though Song Family daughters don’t enter the palace, even if they marry not into high families, but official ones, they will inevitably meet nobles, and not knowing etiquette would be disgraceful.”

Song Zhiqing is shocked, suddenly looking up, ”Mother, what do you mean Song Family daughters don’t enter the palace?”

”It means our Song Family daughters do not marry Princes, nor participate in selections.” Song Ci says.

”Why?” Song Zhiqing’s voice rises sharply, not noticing the cold look in his elder brother’s eyes. He then realizes his voice was too sharp, forcing a smile, ”Mother, isn’t this beyond our control? If the palace issues a decree for all families to participate in selections, do we dare defy the sovereign’s will?”

This old woman must be crazy, saying Song Family daughters don’t enter the palace, what kind of ridiculous logic is this? It’s like not vying for tremendous fortune!

She must’ve gone senile!

Song Ci nods, ”You do have a point.”

Song Zhiqing breathes a sigh of relief, that’s more like it.

”However, you did remind me, in that case, I’ll ask the Emperor and Empress Dowager for a special favor, to absolve us from this rule, not participating in selections or entering the palace, then it won’t be a matter of defying the decree.”

Splutter.

Song Zhiqing is dumbfounded.

Is this something a person says?

Are you out of your mind, and seriously unwell!

”Mother, perhaps it’s unnecessary?” Song Zhiqing speaks stiffly, looking at Song Zhiyuan, ”Elder brother, what do you think? If mother truly proposes this, would it not displeasure the Emperor? Thinking we, the Song Family, look down on the Imperial Family’s offspring!”

”Indeed inappropriate,” Song Zhiyuan says, ”We must first write it into the family rules, just in case. If there ever is a decree, we can first request favor citing family rules.”

Song Zhiqing: ”...”

This mother and son duo is poisonous!
