The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Finally figured it out.

Grand Marshal Liu let out a sigh, stroked his beard, and looked at Song Lingzhao, smiling, ”I have a granddaughter, fourteen this year, around the same age as Huaijin, she’s also beautiful and straightforward...”

Song Lingzhao felt a chill down his spine.

What, does Grand Marshal Liu want to betroth his granddaughter to me?

Song Lingzhao swallowed and said, ”Grand Marshal, although I am not talented, I have parents, brothers, and sisters at home. I, I am not marrying into the wife’s family. If I did, my father would break my legs.”

Grand Marshal Liu sprayed out a mouthful of tea, his tiger-like eyes wide open.

This simpleton.

”Who asked you to marry into the wife’s family, I also have several grandsons, there’s no need for you to do that. I’m talking about marrying my granddaughter to you properly.” This fool, brave as he may be, doesn’t seem to be as clever as his brothers at home.

”Ah, not marrying into the wife’s family?” Song Lingzhao’s eyes shifted, then he said, ”Grand Marshal, Miss Liu is of noble status, and I’m just a poor, simple man, how could I possibly match up to her, it would ruin her life.”

Grand Marshal Liu chuckled with a couple of fake laughs, a poor boy?

”Song Huaijin, although I am old, I am not blind or ignorant. I know your background well, otherwise, do you think you, a mere Ten Commander, could enter my private study and have a conversation with me?”

Your skin, I’ve peeled it off already.

Although Song Lingzhao had guessed a bit, he still chuckled when the other party laid it out clearly, ”So that’s how it is. Since the Marshal knows my background, is it fair to say that you favor me because of my family background?”

Grand Marshal Liu was stumped, glaring at Song Lingzhao with his tiger eyes, the iron-blood aura from years of battlefield experience was intimidating without anger.

Yet Song Lingzhao was not afraid at all.

Since the other party already knew his background, they naturally wouldn’t kill him. At most, he’d be given a hard time, but Grand Marshal Liu was known for his uprightness and integrity, so he probably wouldn’t bear a grudge against a young man like him for personal grudges, right?

Grand Marshal Liu snorted lightly, ”Since I appreciate your family background, I also appreciate your courage and decisiveness. My Liu Family has been in the military for generations, so it’s only fitting for a girl to marry a soldier.”

”It’s not that I have high standards and look down on Miss Liu, but first of all, the Song Family comes from a civil servant background, while the Liu Family has been in the military for generations. A marriage between the military and civil sectors is a major taboo, and I dare not gamble with the fate of both families’ official paths. After all, you are the Grand Marshal who controls the military, and my uncle is the current Prime Minister.”

Grand Marshal Liu remained silent, but a trace of admiration rose in his eyes. He took back his previous words, this one wasn’t a fool; he’s actually smart.

”Even if both families are not afraid of this taboo and choose to marry, I cannot ignore the wishes of my parents. Although it’s me and the young lady getting married, and my wishes are the most important, the Marshal knows that people like us spend the whole year in military camps. If the wife accompanies you, that’s fine. If not, and the couple is separated by distance, then the days she faces her mother-in-law will inevitably be longer than the days she faces her husband.”

Song Lingzhao took a deep breath and said, ”Marshal, a woman’s time in the inner quarters is just like our time in the military camp. Opportunities to go out are limited to social gatherings, so most of the time is spent serving the parents-in-law in the back quarters. Marshal, it’s rare for daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law to be as close as mother and daughter. Most keep a distance. If a wife is married without parental approval, she won’t find favor with the mother-in-law, yet she can’t escape serving her. Over time, won’t she end up becoming a resentful woman in the deep inner quarters?”
