The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

The small family banquet celebrating Song Lingsu and Song Lingjie’s exam success was full of joy, and after the third round of drinks, Grandfather Song spoke up.

”You brothers both passed the exams, which is a great joy for our Song Family. Therefore, I’ve invited several old friends to join the celebration, and you should follow your grandfather in receiving them.”

Song Lingsu hurriedly said, ”Grandfather’s words, your grandson dares not disobey.”

Song Ci glanced at Grandfather Song and said, ”Only your old friends are guests? Are others not guests? The eldest and second sons will also invite some familiar guests over so the two kids can see the family’s connections; how can they merely follow you to receive guests? Let the kids exchange pleasantries after the greetings and immediately release them; you are not allowed to keep them by your side.”

Grandfather Song replied, ”I have no intention of keeping them by my side; I just said to let them receive a few guests. Is that something you find offensive?”

”Oh, offensive indeed, you just want to show off these kids blindly.”

”You!”

Song Lingsu and Song Lingjie exchanged a look, with a hint of amusement in their eyes.

Recalling the nonsense this man got up to in the past, Song Ci further warned, ”There’s another thing, you can drink but don’t drink two more cups and then recklessly arrange some verbal marriage agreement for Jie’er. No way, let Changgui stay by your side to prevent any accidents.”

Grandfather Song’s face turned green; this old woman leaves him no dignity.

Song Zhicheng was nudged in the elbow by Jiang’s, instantly understood, and quickly poured Grandfather Song a cup of wine, saying, ”Father, Mother makes a few good points, not that you’re being reckless. Your heart naturally loves your grandsons, and you wish to settle them with the best girls in the world; we all understand that.”

Grandfather Song felt relieved and said, ”That’s exactly the point, but your mother thinks otherwise, just assuming I’m completely heartless. She doesn’t realize they’re my direct grandsons; would I intentionally harm them?”

Song Ci sneered; not intentional, but if unintentionally you cause trouble, it’s commonly called trapping grandsons.

Song Zhicheng said, ”Naturally not, but Father, your heart is good, yet you can’t withstand others’ ill intentions. With intention against unintentional, Father, you are the most sincere person; how can you outwit them?”

Grandfather Song nodded inwardly; this sounded like praise, but it felt a bit off, just couldn’t pinpoint where.

Those who understood, however, smiled while hiding their amusement behind objects.

”Right now, our family is in full bloom; not to mention my big brother, even when I step out without an official status, who doesn’t respectfully call me sir in the city? Many people out there want to curry favor with our family, striving to establish connections, as do the kids. If they can marry well, what bond could be closer than marriage?”

Song Zhicheng said, ”Therefore, we must be cautious and prudent in these matters. Jie’er shouldn’t easily have private interactions with girls himself. Su’er too, though you’re engaged, if someone intends to scheme against you, what difference would it make if you’re engaged? Even if you’re married, they can still manipulate.”

”We, the Song Family, do not provoke trouble, but we don’t fear it either. Nevertheless, involving oneself in these things is a hassle; we are clean, why smear yourself with any foul smell? Isn’t cleanliness good?”

Alright, the words may be blunt, but the reasoning isn’t flawed; it’s just a bit pungent.

Song Lingsu and the others quickly got up and bowed to receive the lesson.

Song Ci tilted her head at Grandfather Song: ”See that? The kids are more awake than you.”

Grandfather Song was utterly exasperated; fine, let Changgui stick by him without a step away as defense, satisfied now?
