The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1049: Chapter 1049: Consort Zhou Sells Favor

Madam and Madam Wen, along with her daughter, watched Consort Zhou leave, the procession winding and truly impressive.

”Only an official wife could have such a grand display,” Madam exclaimed in awe.

Madam Wen’s eyes flickered slightly, and she unconsciously glanced at Wen Zishan. Seeing her pale complexion, her gaze sharpened.

”I still need to draw a lot for my nephew at home. Madam Wen, why don’t you join me? Oh dear, why does this child’s face look so pale? Is she feeling unwell?” Madam asked with feigned concern, looking at Wen Zishan.

Wen Zishan forced a smile and said, ”Perhaps the wind was too strong, giving me a slight headache.”

Madam frowned, ”What should we do? Why not ask the temple’s monk doctor to check your pulse?”

”It’s just a minor headache; there’s no need to trouble the monk doctor. I’ll accompany this girl to get some hot water to drink and apply some oil. That should be enough,” replied Madam Wen, somewhat regretfully. ”But I’m afraid I won’t be able to accompany you to draw lots, Madam.”

”You can draw lots anytime. You should go quickly. In my opinion, after drinking hot water, you should return to the capital quickly and ask the imperial physician to check her pulse. After all, it’s autumn now; the mountain winds are quite chilly. A young lady shouldn’t catch a cold,” Madam said.

Madam Wen said, ”But we’ve only just arrived with you...”

Madam chided, ”There’s plenty of time ahead. There’s always a chance for a Buddhist ceremony. The child is what matters.”

Upon hearing this, Madam Wen felt a bit heavy-hearted, but she still maintained a slightly apologetic smile and said, ”We’ve interrupted Madam’s enjoyment.”

Madam exchanged a few polite words and urged them to leave.

Madam Wen apologized briefly and then led Wen Zishan away.

Madam watched them until they were out of sight, then took the hand of her servant, Mama Fang, and headed toward the main hall. After only a few steps, she started to laugh softly.

”How satisfying, today was truly satisfying.” It was not only satisfying but also a relief from resentment.

Mama Fang said helplessly, ”Madam, we’re still out in public.”

Being complacent, be careful not to get exposed.

Madam hummed with a smile, lifted her chin, and said, ”Let’s go, let’s draw a few good lots for Su’er and the others.”

She hadn’t expected that, as they were leaving, Mama Li, who was by Consort Zhou’s side, found an excuse to return, came up to her carriage, and mentioned something amusing with a smile.

”Indeed, it’s funny. I appreciate the princess’s kind gesture,” Madam said with a laugh.

Mama Li smiled faintly and got into a simple carriage, leaving.

Looking at Mama Fang, Madam said, ”You see, young people these days already have quite a mindset. To be a princess, you really need a bit of strategy.”

Mama Fang said, ”Consort Zhou is really good at this, thoroughly cutting off that one’s escape route. Isn’t she afraid the Wen Family might really push this girl to become a concubine?”

The amusing matter brought by Consort Zhou’s servant was none other than the story of Wanbao Tower. Even though it seemed to exclude Prince Zhou, the words completely ruined Wen Zishan’s reputation.

Any proper Madam would hesitate, thinking what kind of bold girl would fit as a daughter-in-law. Especially in a noble family like the Prime Minister’s Mansion?

Consort Zhou just didn’t want Wen Zishan to have a good marriage, regardless of whether she could become her ’sister’. By doing this, she eliminated the possibility of her marrying into the mansion.

”Some things can’t be stopped just because she’s afraid. Especially considering the Wen Family’s high status. Her performance earlier was just to highlight her own position. Regardless of the result, she’s still the official wife and an official wife with a favored legitimate son! If Wen Zishan truly has a spine, she should act sensibly,” Madam laughed. ”By giving me this favor, I have to acknowledge it, don’t I? Inadvertently, she gained another vote for Prince Zhou. She’s really shrewd.”
