The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1036: Chapter 1036: Giving a Way Out

Madam Song was indeed dissecting her mother-in-law’s words, savoring them carefully. The more she pondered, the more she envisioned a vivid scene of Miss Wen looking down on everyone from her high position.

Actually, she didn’t even have to look at others, she could use herself as an example. Did she sincerely wish to associate with those from the lower rungs of poor families? Not really. Who doesn’t aspire to climb higher and socialize among the elite?

However, her husband was from a poor family. As Song Ci said, he was the leader of the pure stream of poor families. Many were watching him, and to put it bluntly, Song Zhiyuan’s position was also supported by the poor faction.

If one turns their back on people after reaching a high position, they will be criticized behind their back.

When she married Song Zhiyuan back then, she was also reluctant for a while, but at that time the former emperor had just established the empire, it wasn’t particularly prosperous, so the contrast wasn’t obvious.

Now, it’s considered a time of peace and prosperity. Will Miss Wen be as willing as she was back then?

Madam Song hesitated for a moment.

Song Ci, seeing that it was about time, said, ”I still say the same thing, the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law depends on you and her. If you really like her, then observe more, and test a bit. Miss Wen is indeed excellent in various aspects, but I just feel she’s not quite a match for Su’er.”

Madam Song forced a smile.

”Even if you’re in favor, you still need Su’er to meet and interact with her. The two youngsters need to meet to know for sure, so there’s no rush. I’m old and my eyes are dim, sometimes my judgment might be too one-sided, so my words can’t just conclude the matter, we need to observe more.” Song Ci gently said, ”Just as you said, I care for Su’er and naturally hope he marries an ideal woman. Their life will certainly be more interesting if they love and respect each other rather than just being polite, so we can’t rush, rushing blurs vision.”

Song Ci’s words were both conciliatory and tactful.

Madam Song naturally went along, quickly saying, ”That’s certainly true, discussing marriage requires multiple considerations to make it certain. I also think Miss Wen is good, especially after being praised by the Empress, and even the Prime Minister mentioned it, so I paid more attention. However, whether the two families are compatible can’t be decided at a glance.”

Song Ci lightly stroked her teacup and smiled softly.

Madam Song glanced at her tentatively and inquired, ”It’s just that, mother, I see you seem to favor Miss Guan from the Duke Dingguo Mansion. Is that so?”

Song Ci smiled and said, ”You don’t know that the sixth Miss Guan also studied with Grandmaster Fu for two years. When visiting the Grand Tutor recently, she happened to become acquainted with Su’er, so they are fellow disciples.”

Madam Song was surprised; she indeed didn’t know about this.

”However, the sixth Miss Guan is indeed well-bred, generous, and is outwardly gentle but inwardly strong.” Song Ci praised before continuing, ”But don’t say that again. She’s from a prestigious family, of noble birth, and we can’t let visiting a feast make it seem like we’re picking a daughter-in-law, preferring one over the other. If word gets out, they’ll say our Prime Minister’s Mansion is presumptuous.”

Madam Song quickly apologized, saying she didn’t dare.

”You may leave now. You and the eldest should deliberate on this matter further. My opinion is not to rush and to interact a few more times to see beneath the surface.”

Madam Song curtsied and agreed, ”I’ll follow your guidance.”
