The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1006: Chapter 1006: Insulted at the Condolence Visit

The babbling cries of Dange’er woke Song Ci from her self-pity.

Song Ci struggled a bit to hold him up, and gently pinched his little nose, saying: ”Is Dange’er also thinking that Grandmother is too old? Don’t worry, Grandmother will focus on health, aiming to accompany our Dange’er for a long time.”

The little child babbled, waving his small hand and grabbing her little finger, not letting go.

”Oh, is this making a pinky promise with Grandmother? Afraid that Grandmother will not keep her word?” Song Ci laughed heartily.

Nanny Gong chimed in with a laugh: ”Little Sixth Young Master is clear in his heart, he wants to stamp it and leave a mark with you.”

Song Ci hooked his little pinky and said: ”Stamp it then, if Grandmother doesn’t keep her word, there’s still Nanny Gong, she prides herself on being younger than me, and she surely will take good care of our young master as he grows up.”

Nanny Gong’s heart skipped a beat, not quite willing to catch on, feeling it was a bit ominous.

Just as she was about to change the subject, the curtain lifted and Xiao Man announced: ”Second Madam and Third Madam have returned.”

The two were somewhat surprised, weren’t they supposed to be paying respects; how did they return so quickly?

Nanny Gong immediately said: ”First ask if the two Madams have stepped over the fire basin before entering.”

There are elderly and children here, the two just came back from mourning, it would be best if they stepped over the fire basin to ward off evil spirits before coming in, to avoid any dirty things following back and scaring the old and young here.

Jiang’s loud voice sounded from the doorway: ”Nanny, we’ve already changed clothes, stepped over the fire basin, and even used pomelo leaf water to cleanse our hands and faces.”

She and Lu entered one after another, indeed, both had changed into new clothes, either purple or deep red, definitely not the appropriate colors for mourning.

However, both wore expressions of anger on their faces.

”You went to mourn, how come you returned so quickly?” Song Ci instructed Deng to take Dange’er out to nurse, and asked the two.

Just as Jiang was about to respond, a maid announced that Song’s First Madam had also arrived, stopping Jiang in her tracks, as she first saluted First Madam who entered, unexpectedly, First Madam asked the same question.

”You mentioned you were going to mourn, and in less than two hours, you have returned?”

Jiang, with her fiery temperament, sneered: ”Our Song Family went to pay respects merely because of the Ji Family’s grand red-gold plaque hanging over their main gate. Otherwise, why would a small woman with no official rank have us go over for respect? Doesn’t she even know her status!”

Song Ci frowned, at Jiang’s bristling demeanor, wondering if the Ji Family had slighted them?

”In the Capital, when a family has a death, all treat the guests who come to pay respects with courtesy. Yet, not the Ji Family, they behaved crudely, spoke rudely, I’ve never seen such discourteous people. Their girls, truly lack upbringing, and anyone who marries them will be out of luck.” Jiang slapped the table loudly, showing she was genuinely angry.

First Madam Song sighed, ”You with your firecracker temper, can’t you control it a bit, even igniting it at home, might frighten Mother.”

At these words, Jiang felt a bit sheepish, looking at Song Ci and saying: ”Mother, it’s the daughter-in-law’s fault for being disrespectful.”

”What on earth happened, you’re rattling off like a monk can’t make heads or tails of it!” Song Ci cast her an exasperated glance, then looked towards Lu: ”Lu, you tell.”

Lu was also upset but calmer than Jiang, taking a deep breath, and said: ”Second Sister-in-law and I went to pay respects and offered incense; suddenly a gust of wind blew, and the incense went out. Then the Ji Family’s youngest daughter rushed over and said that the Song Family’s incense was not accepted by her mother, saying...”
