The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1041: Chapter 1041: Disowned Daughter—Only the Main Wife May Wear Bright Red

Madam Wen sat on the Arhat bed placed by the window, her face ashen, lips pressed into a straight line, chest heaving up and down, and everyone around knew she was extremely angry.

”Madam, when you speak later, try not to be too harsh to avoid hurting the harmony with the young lady,” Nanny Wang gently advised.

Madam Wen sneered, ”My past teachings to her were all in vain, and now I have to yield to her? If she did something wrong, I still have to coax her?”

Nanny Wang opened her mouth, glancing at the swaying curtain out of the corner of her eye, where a maid lifted the curtain, and Miss Wen walked in.

Madam Wen glanced over, and once the curtain fell, she slapped the table: ”Kneel down.”

Wen Zishan was taken aback but obediently knelt down, bowing her head slightly.

Seeing this, Madam Wen snorted, ”It seems you know where you went wrong; otherwise, you wouldn’t have knelt so readily.”

Wen Zishan calmly said, ”I kneel because it’s the command of my parents, and I dare not disobey.”

”Dare not disobey your parents’ command? That’s just right. I’ve already sent word to your father, explaining clearly about the Song Family. If the Song Family is interested, this marriage is set in stone.” Madam Wen’s voice was icy.

Wen Zishan’s pupils constricted: ”Mother...”

”What, just these few words and you’re anxious?” Madam Wen mocked, ”Earlier, you said you dare not disobey.”

Wen Zishan conceded, helplessly saying, ”Mother, how have I displeased you? I haven’t done anything.”

”Nothing? You’ve met with Prince Zhou multiple times, especially recently, even daring to mingle with your elder brother, and you’re in a room with an outsider? Wen Shan, my teachings to you in the past were all in vain? Have you been blinded by the wealth and splendor of Shangjing, unable to distinguish reality from illusion?”

Wen Zishan’s face turned red, ”Why must mother speak of me in such a manner? Meeting him was not my intention; it was purely by chance! How did it become...”

”Not your intention? Every bit of your upbringing has been from prestigious teachers and retired personnel from the palace. Didn’t they teach you what decency is? Even if it’s by chance, as a young lady, didn’t you know to avoid the situation? Instead, you directly sat with Prince Zhou? Don’t tell me you had siblings with you; it’s improper nonetheless.”

Wen Zishan mumbled, daring not to say more.

”You still say it was by chance. I can figure out Prince Zhou’s intentions with a strand of hair.” Madam Wen glared at her coldly, ”I know you’re proud, and I understand everyone wants to go higher. If Prince Zhou didn’t have an official wife now and was being attentive to you, I would be pleased. But don’t forget, he doesn’t just have an official wife; he even has a concubine by his side. Do you know what that means?”

Wen Zishan’s expression finally cracked after hearing this, her face turning as white as snow.

Seeing this, Madam Wen felt even more weighed down, saying, ”You’ve been to the Imperial Palace to pay respects to the noble ladies. Who other than the Empress do you see wearing bright red? Only the wife can wear bright red; I don’t believe you don’t know this. Are you willingly ignorant? Do you think bright red isn’t beautiful, or do you wish to be below others?”

Wen Zishan’s body wavered, clearly shaken.

Madam Wen took a deep breath and said, ”I’ve made arrangements with Madam Song to visit Songshan Temple in a few days to offer incense. You will accompany me.”
