The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1010: Chapter 1010: The Family Head Isn’t Up to Par

According to Princess Consort Ji’s thoughts, even if Ji Wenniang spoke insolently, it was merely the result of a young girl not knowing the heights of heaven and speaking rashly. Would this cause Prime Minister Song to annihilate the Ji Family?

If Prime Minister Song were truly capable of such a thing, the one who should be worried would be the Emperor, not the Ji Family. Such rampant and overbearing behavior would indicate a grasp of political power that instills fear, which no Emperor would be pleased to witness.

Moreover, even if she were foolish, everyone knows that the Song Family wouldn’t be so stupid as to act against the Ji Family over a trivial matter. They’ve arduously climbed to their current position, wouldn’t they treasure their reputation? Would they really get embroiled in unethical acts because of a young girl’s slip of the tongue?

If that were the case, the Song Family’s painstakingly crafted reputation over the years would begin to decline. With someone like Prime Minister Song as the family head, how could such a thing occur?

Of course, they also wouldn’t associate with the Ji Family, given the offense.

Anyway, the two families never had much interaction to begin with. Whether they associate or not, can they really rely on the Song Family to have food to eat?

”Big brother, you’re just making a fuss over nothing. You’ve been a Lord for more than twenty years, yet you’ve not learned the slightest bit of authority. Remember and think carefully in any situation; don’t go about recklessly, lacking decorum.” Princess Consort Ji was very dissatisfied with Elder Ji’s actions. Without any accomplishments, how could he bear great responsibilities? No wonder the Ji Family has become increasingly insignificant; this family head lacks skill.

Elder Ji mumbled, ”You can’t blame me for this. My natural inclination is to till the land and plant crops. Wearing these robes is only due to a stroke of luck from our ancestors; in others’ eyes, I’m always perceived as... Yes, wearing the dragon robe doesn’t make me the Crown Prince, and that’s just how our family is. What can I do?”

Princess Consort Ji’s mouth twitched.

”Do you think I don’t want power and influence? I must have the ability to achieve it first. Farmers inherently have reverence for scholars, and I’m no exception. Usually, when I see Prime Minister Song from a distance, I wish I could avoid him.”

Princess Consort Ji, driven by anger, burst out, ”Why are you afraid of him? Afraid of what exactly? Can he eat you up? He doesn’t even know who you are!”

Elder Ji shrunk his neck and said, ”Anyway, over the years, I’ve followed your instructions. Those who read continue to read, those who embroider continue to embroider, but if they can’t achieve anything, what can I do?”

”But you cannot let them act recklessly. Look at Achang’s wife—had she not been so indiscreet, how could she end up in such a situation?” Princess Consort Ji said while slapping the table.

Elder Ji remained silent, his face showing traces of fear and hesitance.

Princess Consort Ji noticed something amiss, narrowed her eyes, and asked tentatively, ”Big brother, Liu isn’t the type to dare her death, could it be that you used force?”

Elder Ji’s pupils contracted tightly.

”Is it really true?” Princess Consort Ji’s heart started to race.

Elder Ji said, ”It wasn’t due to the Prince’s intentions.”

”What?”

Princess Consort Ji was stunned, immediately recalling her son’s words—that they couldn’t allow the cousin-in-law to keep causing trouble, not like this, even if it meant her death?

”Was it Ze Brother?” Her throat felt somewhat dry.

Elder Ji stiffened his neck and said, ”Actually, the Prince was right. Liu, this person, only cared about trivial gains, had no accomplishments, and now having caused such a considerable mess, her death serves as an apology. It prevents her from wreaking havoc on the entire Ji Family. Now that she’s dead, the Emperor won’t find any excuse to pick on our family, will he?”

She’s just a wife. With her gone, at worst the son will be remarried, but had her words brought disaster upon the entire Ji Family, that would be truly catastrophic.
