The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 1007: Chapter 1007: Trumped-Up Charges

The girl from the Ji Family said something outrageous, she actually claimed that Madam Ji was forced to death by Song Ci, so she wouldn’t accept the incense from the Song Family.

At that time, there were quite a few people present for the mourning; such a statement was abruptly made, Jiang and Lu were so angry and embarrassed, it was as if they were suddenly exposed before everyone, utterly humiliated.

To accuse Song Ci of forcing Madam Ji to her death is simply a groundless charge. Jiang exploded in fury on the spot, entirely disregarding the decorum of the occasion, and retorted with scathing sarcasm at the Ji Family girl, making her cry bitterly.

After this confrontation, Jiang pulled Lu along and left, not even taking a sip of tea. As they walked away, they exclaimed about the unprecedented hospitality they encountered.

As Jiang and her companions left, those close to the Song Family also started bidding their farewells, leaving the once lively funeral suddenly desolate.

Indeed, for a mere Baron of Peace, even with the backing of an Imperial Concubine Ji, how could they possibly compare to the Prime Minister’s Mansion in its prime?

Madam Song was furious: ”This is outrageous, does the Ji Family presume there are no men left in the Song Family?”

Song Ci, on the other hand, turned to Nanny Gong and said, ”See, my golden words hit the mark once spoken.”

Nanny Gong sighed, ”Good things don’t come true, bad things always do.”

The daughters-in-law exchanged glances.

Jiang asked, ”Mother, what do you mean by that?”

Song Ci sighed, ”Upon learning of Madam Ji’s sudden death, I commented to Nanny Gong in passing that the Ji Family might hold a grudge against me, thinking I forced her to death, and indeed, it turned out that way.”

Madam Song and the others: ”...”

How were they supposed to respond to such words?

”In any case, from now on, it would be best to avoid the Ji Family when possible, lest you encounter them and find yourself unjustly embroiled in a scandal,” Jiang said indignantly.

It was simply infuriating.

”Different paths, different strategies. They and our family never saw eye to eye in the first place; attending the mourning was merely a formality,” Song Ci said, ”As for that young girl, she was merely speaking rashly, seeking a momentary thrill. She will inevitably face difficulties in the future, so there’s no need to hold a grudge against her.”

A young girl lacking in etiquette, speaking disrespectfully to mourners — she was already motherless, and the fate awaiting her when a stepmother enters the house was unmistakable.

The women present, upon a moment’s consideration, understood what hardships Song Ci was alluding to, specifically concerning future marriage prospects.

”Mother is right, a mere young girl, Second Sister-in-law, you don’t need to get worked up over her,” Madam Song said with a smile.

Jiang said, ”My anger got the better of me, but such a groundless accusation, even though Mother conducts herself uprightly, can’t withstand rampant gossip. Who knows how it will be distorted eventually.”

Rumors spread like wildfire, who could say there won’t be people exploiting this to create trouble, claiming the Song Family is bullying others with their power?

Even if we don’t fear the rumors, everyone desires a good reputation.

Song Ci chuckled, ”Let them talk, if upright, one doesn’t fear one’s shadow. If it’s going to spread, the words from Sunflower Garden will spread too, and by then, who knows who will be in trouble.”

The one overstepping boundaries wasn’t her; it was the late Madam Ji. Anyone with sense, upon thinking it over, should understand the hidden story within.

”Mother is truly magnanimous.”

Song Ci waved her hand, saying, ”Magnanimous might be overstating it; indeed, there’s a saying that truth travels everywhere. I’m tough and just, what is there to fear?”
