The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 245: Chapter 245: Great Compassion

Not long after Song Ci visited Madam Wei, news came that the Wei Family and the Marquis Weiyuan Mansion had arranged a marriage. She laughed coldly, only hoping that Wei Wenyan wouldn’t regret it for the rest of her life.

Putting this matter behind her, when July arrived, Song Ci went with Madam Song to visit the Duke Ying Mansion.

”If Qi’er and Qi San hit it off this time, will the Emperor grant the marriage?” Song Ci asked Madam Song.

Madam Song respectfully replied, ”The two families are already in agreement. If the Emperor decrees the marriage, the decree will come regardless of whether they like each other or not. For now, it’s just a chance for the two children to meet.”

That’s how it is with imperial marriages; they may sound prestigious, but they’re a done deal. The Emperor wouldn’t care if the two of you like each other or not.

Song Ci nodded and sighed, ”The Duke Ying Mansion is a high-door family with many people and many troubles. The inner quarters are filled with women, there’s much intrigue and hidden affairs. Can Qi’er’s nature adapt?”

Madam Song also sighed, ”What you say, mother, is indeed what I worry about as well. Her tendency to stand out, combined with her stubborn pride, will surely lead her to suffer. I think that once the decree arrives, I’ll keep her by my side to guide her, whether it’s household management or social matters and those filthy affairs.”

Just the thought of it made Song Ci feel exhausted.

Where there are people, there is intrigue; where there are many women, there is much trouble.

It’s difficult.

Considering Song Ruqi, Song Ci uncharacteristically became compassionate and said, ”If neither you nor Qi’er are willing, I’ll risk losing face to ask the Empress Dowager to break off this marriage?”

Madam Song was taken aback and somewhat moved, but she knew that favors shouldn’t be wasted on this, so she said, ”Mother, your concern for Qi’er is deeply appreciated by us, but I’ve also discussed this with Qi’er. That girl is willing, she just finds Qi San’s reputation unappealing and a bit too old.”

Song Ci twitched at the corner of her mouth, how is twenty-one old.

But considering that people in ancient times married early, twenty-one does seem old compared to Song Ruqi, who just turned fifteen this year.

”If it’s a done deal, then you’ll just have to work hard to teach her.”

Song Ci wasn’t Song Ruqi’s real grandmother, so if they’re willing, she had nothing more to say.

Though there are many people, Song Ruqi isn’t without backing, nor is she someone to be pushed around. If her husband is also assertive, they might just be able to lead their own lives.

As for suffering losses, after experiencing enough, she’ll learn how to navigate her path.

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law sat in silence for a moment. Moved by Song Ci’s willingness to plead for her daughter, Madam Song became more attentive, picking cheerful and interesting topics to entertain her, making Song Ci smile broadly.

Meanwhile, in the carriage behind, which grew closer to the Duke Ying Mansion, the people inside grew increasingly nervous.

Song Ruqi sat straight, her heart racing, her cheeks warm. She wanted to take the tea handed to her with the books and paintings for a sip but feared she would need to visit the restroom, so she restrained herself.

”Miss, perhaps you should do some embroidery?” The servant, Shuhua, offered an embroidery frame from the side.

Song Ruqi huffed, ”Embroidering in this carriage will make my fingers bleed.”

”I just thought you seemed nervous,” said Shuhua.

Song Ruqi opened her mouth, ”What do you know, this is the first time.”

Facing a meeting for the first time in her life, how could she not be nervous?

She then remembered Qi San’s position, and her anxiety instantly halved. Wouldn’t he be just a rough military officer, burly and stout?
