The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 208: Chapter 208: One-Hit KO

Marquis Weiyuan’s Madam came over, exchanged pleasantries with Song Ci and the others, and looked eagerly at Wang Qiuman, who was standing a step behind Grand Madam Wei, before quickly concealing her gaze.

As customary, she complimented Grand Madam Wei’s ability to nurture her granddaughters and grandnieces, all of whom were extraordinarily beautiful, and lamented her lack of luck in not having such a daughter.

Wang Qiuman and Wei Wenyan both shyly lowered their heads.

Song Ci glanced inadvertently at the girl named Wenyan, her eyes flickering slightly, but she didn’t dwell on it, focusing instead on Marquis Weiyuan’s Madam.

She felt something strange.

Marquis Weiyuan’s Madam had lost her legitimate son and had been dedicating herself to Buddhist practices for years, distancing herself from worldly matters. Back then, she suspected that her concubine’s son’s birth mother harmed her son, so naturally, she should dislike the son of the concubine.

From how Wei Cheng had been kept in his hometown for years, one could deduce this.

Yet, now that Wei Cheng was brought back, why would Marquis Weiyuan’s Madam set aside old grudges and be so keen on helping him find a wife? No matter how she looked at it, it seemed odd.

The more she thought about it, the more it felt amiss.

She watched as Marquis Weiyuan’s Madam and Grand Madam Wei engaged in a lively conversation, saying nothing as she found herself unable to, for an arch-enemy approached.

Grand Madam Fan, supported by her maid, approached and waved in greeting to Song Ci.

”I didn’t expect Madam Song to attend the master’s lecture. Have you been delving into scriptures in recent years?”

Grand Madam Fan’s words were barbed, and a few madams nearby heard it and chuckled softly.

Strangely, Song Ci immediately caught the underlying mockery in the words and recalled it instantly.

In the past, Song Ci was always busy managing her household, with no interest in scriptures. As she aged and her eyesight deteriorated, she rarely read them, once embarrassing herself by pretending to know what she didn’t.

Now, was Grand Madam Fan bringing this up just to stir trouble?

Song Ci, adept at verbal sparring, was not afraid of her.

”Does listening to lectures require such deep research? As long as you have ears and a heart, you can listen. Actually, my main reason for coming wasn’t the lecture, it was to see Master Jinghui in his benevolence.” Song Ci turned the conversation with a bright smile: ”Speaking of which, congratulations are in order for Grand Madam Fan; your granddaughter became the Fourth Prince Consort. Oh, and there’s Grand Madam Li; the Third Prince can call you grandmother as well. Truly joyous. Your families are now relatives and will surely visit often in the future.”

A single move, a knockout.

Grand Madam Fan’s face turned green.

Grand Madam Li’s facial muscles twitched even more.

The Li Mansion used to be a supporter of Prime Minister Fan. Now, with the decreed marriages, the relations between the two houses became awkward and subtle.

Both families had granddaughters as prince consorts, making them sisters-in-law and relatives, yet also rivals. How indeed subtle?

Neither side wanted to mention this, and now Song Ci bluntly exposed this delicate relationship, leaving both families visibly uneasy.

Grand Madam Fan glanced at Grand Madam Li, let out a snort.

Grand Madam Li, remaining composed, chuckled: ”There’s no need for Madam Song to remind us. Grand Madam Fan is the Third Prince’s grandmother, naturally the closest, and visits are inevitable. In the future, my eldest daughter will surely treat Grand Madam Fan with the utmost respect, like her own grandmother.”

”That would be for the best,” Song Ci clapped her hands with a laugh. ”Everyone says you might be at each other’s throats in the future, but I refuse to believe it. How could that be? You are all one big happy family, those who say otherwise are just sour grapes.”

Grand Madam Fan, Grand Madam Li: ”...”

Who is in her family? The Empress’s throne belongs to their granddaughter.
