The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 236: Chapter 236: Kid, How Easy It Is to Go Bald

Song Zhiyuan really admired his mother’s idea; she even dared to think about Commandery Princess Dongyang as a match. She was truly bold!

”Mother, is it possible that you’re being so enthusiastic about her just because of this?”

”How could that be? I purely want her in our family because I like her. What a wonderful girl, a living Hua Mulan with a cheerful and generous nature; she’s exactly to my liking.” Song Ci said, ”Actually, it was just a fleeting thought. After all, your brother doesn’t really have anything to match her.”

Song Zhiyuan: ”You better not let him hear that, or else he’ll start complaining he’s not your own son again.”

Song Ci was indifferent: ”Let him hear it then. It’s good for him to know the harsh reality. Without you as his exceptional older brother, who would even pay attention to him? He has so many demands for a wife. Just look at how spoiled he is!”

Song Zhiyuan laughed out loud, his worries somewhat dissipating.

Song Ci glanced at him, licked her lips, and said, ”Actually, you don’t need to worry too much. When the boat reaches the bridge, it will naturally go straight. If it’s really like you said, then it’s his destined marriage, and it can’t be escaped.”

Song Zhiyuan gave a bitter smile.

Song Ci was silent for a while, then said, ”There’s something I’m not sure whether to say or not.”

”Hmm?”

”In case, I mean just in case, Dalang, if the Emperor really bestows a marriage between your fourth brother and Commandery Princess Dongyang, it might not necessarily be a bad thing.” Song Ci’s voice was low: ”Throughout history, Emperors have been suspicious. Don’t be fooled by the Song Family’s current prosperity; if they suspect you, even a minor issue can be exaggerated to take you down. In that case, having a fourth brother leave could ensure at least one Song family member survives, right?”

Song Zhiyuan’s pupils contracted; he nearly knocked over his teacup.

”Of course, it’s just us being overly paranoid, making the Emperor’s intentions seem so terrifying. It might not really be the case. Our family has an old friendship with the Emperor, remember.” Song Ci chuckled awkwardly: ”Even if that day comes, it would be many years later, and by then, it might not be a passive situation.”

What Song Ci was really saying was leaving a way out for the Song Family, a seed to survive on.

This is what many families plan for in advance in case of trouble.

”Aren’t you afraid that if Sir Long is bestowed a marriage, it would be equivalent to marrying into another family?” Marrying into another family is like losing a son.

Song Ci said, ”If he marries into another family, does that mean he’s no longer my son? As long as he’s doing well, that’s all that matters. It wouldn’t be a waste of our mother-son relationship.”

”Mother...”

”The situation hasn’t reached that point, so don’t worry unnecessarily. Overthinking will just lead to hair loss. Even if it does come to that, we’ll still have time to grow and plan. Everything has two sides. We should look at the good side, shouldn’t we?”

The good side is that if the Song Family were ever to be wiped out by the Emperor or a future Emperor, at least there would be a seed outside!

Song Zhiyuan found himself at a loss for words. Mother, this ’good side’ is something we definitely don’t want, okay?

Also, what are these paranoia and hair loss all about?

Song Ci said profoundly, ”Actually, you shouldn’t worry too much about the current Emperor taking action against you. He wants to use you, use the Song Family, and will only cultivate you as a straightforward and loyal minister. If you really want to worry, it’s better to worry about the next reign! Child, new Emperor, new Courtiers, there’s a ready example!”

Song Zhiyuan’s prominence was mainly because he and his mother had an old relationship with the Emperor, and he had also proven himself. But when the next Emperor came along, they might not have that relationship, so caution and preparation were necessary.

Look at someone else—they’ve had their powers divided, haven’t they?

Prime Minister Fan, in his home, sneezed twice and rubbed his ear. It must be that crook Prime Minister Song bad-mouthing me!
