The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 198: Chapter 198: I Really Like the Wicked Capitalism

By late June, the weather was as hot as a steamer, baking people’s faces red like shrimp.

Song Ci lifted the curtain and glanced outside, where mountains and forests stood on either side of the official road, and the heat waves hit her in the face from above the muddy ground.

She looked towards the guard beside the carriage and another horse, but didn’t see her fourth son on horseback, so she huffed and lowered the curtain.

”It’s really hot, even Fourth Lang couldn’t stand it and got into the carriage.” Song Ci leaned against a bamboo pillow, sighing comfortably.

Though she felt upset dressing like an old lady, at least she was a wealthy aristocratic old lady, not a poor one. If she were poor, old, and weak, she might as well wish to die quickly and return to the modern world.

Look at the present moment, isn’t having money so wonderful?

The carriage was wide enough to live in, with exquisitely crafted, beautiful cabinets. While the stored items didn’t match those at home, they were more than enough to comfortably live on the road, making it entirely a historical version of a mobile home.

Though the weather was hot, inside the carriage was as cool as if there were air conditioning blowing cold wind, making the entire carriage feel slightly chilled.

Song Ci glanced at the simple ’air conditioner’ in the corner of the carriage, which was actually just two ice basins with large ice blocks, covered with a sparse bamboo basket, with a simple ’fan’ beside it, shaking towards the ice basins, spreading the cool air everywhere.

The inside and outside of the carriage were like two different worlds, forming a stark contrast.

See, without money, how could she enjoy such comfort? She might have been soaked by sweat over and over again.

Ah, the evil capitalism, she really liked it.

Nanny smiled as she handed over a bowl of mung bean soup, saying, ”The Fourth Master must be tired from riding for so long.”

Song Ci took the mung bean soup and said, ”I bet he’s just afraid of getting his fair face tanned; such a vain boy.”

Hongtao, who was accompanying in the carriage, chuckled at this.

Their group was heading to a manor near Songshan Temple to escape the summer heat. Besides Song Ci, also on the trip were the chubby little Song Lingzhou and the twins, and Song Ci had also brought along Song Zhiyu.

Song Zhiyu didn’t really want to come; he wasn’t keen on summer retreats. Even in the capital, there were plenty of places with water and lakes, so why go so far?

But when his mother shed a few tears in front of him, he had no choice but to surrender, pack up, and come along.

Additionally, accompanying them on their departure was Song Zhicheng.

They originally planned to bring a few daughters-in-law, but the eldest daughter-in-law had to manage the household and couldn’t leave, and the second daughter-in-law had been suffering from the summer heat since the beginning of summer and wasn’t feeling well these days, so she didn’t come.

As for Madam Lu, she had an invitation from another family and couldn’t make it.

Oh, and besides the family members, they also brought along Lin Qing and her attendant. After all, she was her personal physician, and having her nearby was always beneficial.

Lin Qing was also in the carriage with Song Ci, reading a medical book. Upon hearing what Song Ci said, she laughed, ”The Fourth Master’s handsome face would indeed be a pity if tanned.”

Song Ci thought, a face just like Baoyu’s, if it got tanned, he could just use some milk and pearl powder to whiten it again. But then, why be so white? No need to be called a pretty boy.

The mentioned Song Zhiyu lay in the carriage without any poise, watching a few young nephews chattering and playing games, utterly bored.

He inwardly regretted falling for his mother’s trick; wouldn’t it be better to be at Moon Pavilion drinking and listening to music, with the girls fanning him, compared to this bumpy ride?

”Giddyup.”

The sound of a horsewhip cracking and a shout came closer from afar.

The voice sounded familiar.

Song Zhiyu crawled up, lifted the curtain, and poked his head outside.

A shadowy figure swiftly passed by.

The horse’s hind hooves kicked high, and he unexpectedly got a mouthful of dust.
