The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 192: Chapter 192: Drilling into a Bull’s Horn is Futile

Apart from the official wives, Emperor Chu also appointed a concubine for each prince, including the eldest prince who has been married for over a year. Except for one being brought into the Eldest Imperial Prince Mansion in August, all other concubines will be brought in after the princes’ grand weddings next year.

Though Song Ci felt a bit uneasy about it, she didn’t complain too much. After all, this was ancient times, and more importantly, the imperial family, where marrying concubines was the norm.

”The imperial family is focusing on expanding their lineage.”

Song Ci thought of Emperor Chu’s age, a few years older than Song Zhiyuan, yet without any grandchildren, he must indeed be anxious.

Surely after the princes’ grand weddings, having children will be their foremost duty. The first imperial grandchild, if a grandson, will be highly valued, and even a granddaughter will be exceptionally favored for being the first.

”Is the second girl still upset?” Song Ci looked at Nanny Gong.

Nanny Gong smiled and said, ”After delivering the grand madam’s words, she began eating and drinking as usual.”

Song Ci took a sip of tea and said, ”That’s good, there’s no point in stubbornly overthinking. It’s pointless to worry.”

As soon as Song Ruqi heard that there was no chance of her becoming a prince consort, she immediately felt downcast and threw a tantrum for a while. It was Song Ci who asked Nanny Gong to persuade her: if she was willing to share her husband half-and-half right after marriage, then by all means, she was free to fuss.

Watching the glamorous life of a prince consort, yet before the honeymoon period even ended, a concubine was to be brought in. What difference would the glamour make then?

Lin Qing chuckled, ”It’s still grand madam who sees things clearly. Having a grandmother like you is truly a blessing for the young misses.”

”As long as they don’t blame me for having little knowledge.”

Lin Qing thought to herself, you truly are modest. With little knowledge, who else could know that tea can be enjoyed this way, sweet, fragrant with milk, not at all gamey, and uplifting when drunk?

”Grand Madam, the young masters and the young marquis have arrived.” Hong You smiled and bowed.

Looking over, Song Ci indeed saw her eldest grandson bringing along several younger brothers and the young Duke Cheng’en, Wan Yicheng.

It was Wan Yicheng’s first visit to the Prime Minister’s Mansion, and he would stay for two days, so Song Ci had the young boys at home prepared to take him around, showing him the clan school and familiarizing him with the mansion.

”Grandson greets Grandmother.” Song Lingsu and his cousins bowed.

”Young Wan Yicheng greets Grand Madam.” Wan Yicheng also respectfully cupped his hands in greeting.

Song Ci smiled, asked them to sit down, and instructed the maids to serve each child a cup of milk tea.

”Grandmother is having afternoon tea again, it smells so sweet. I could sense it from afar,” Song Lingzhou said with a grin, eyeing the table, which besides the milk tea, also had some particularly crispy-looking biscuits and small pastries.

Song Ci pinched his chubby cheek and laughed, ”Is your nose as sharp as a dog’s?”

”I was born to sniff out good things.” Song Lingzhou puffed out his chest and proclaimed.

”You can smell both the fragrant and the foul,” Song Lingzhao remarked to his younger cousin. ”You shouldn’t stand too close to the latrines. What if you’re assigned near one during your future imperial exam?”

”Oh, Second Brother, don’t say something so terrifying to scare me, your little brother can’t handle it,” Song Lingzhou said with a distressed face.

Song Lingjie patted his head, ”Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it after enough scares.”

”Ahhh!”

Everyone burst into laughter.

Wan Yicheng also laughed, finding the Song brothers incredibly amusing and Song Ci delightful. He couldn’t help but feel a bit envious.

”Young Marquis, come here to granny,” Song Ci beckoned over to the enviously smiling Wan Yicheng.
