The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 189: Chapter 189 Lady, Stop Dreaming

Emperor Chu’s smile faded as he glanced at the list in front of him.

Consort Fan could clearly feel the drop in the atmosphere beside her, clutching the handkerchief in her hand with some nervousness.

”Which noble lady does my beloved consort find most pleasing?” Emperor Chu asked indifferently.

His tone showed neither joy nor anger.

Goosebumps rose on Consort Fan’s skin.

Her face was somewhat stiff as she forced herself to remain calm and said, ”All these noble ladies are good choices; I am truly dazzled by them. What does Your Majesty think?”

Emperor Chu pointed to the name of Commandery Princess Dongyang: ”Someone perceptive enough added Commandery Princess Dongyang to the list. What does my beloved consort think of her?”

Consort Fan’s heart skipped a beat.

”The Commandery Princess is good, certainly. Although she is a bit older, if given to Zheng’er, perhaps his temperament might become more stable.”

Oh heaven, if he could marry Commandery Princess Dongyang, Zheng’er would be settled.

”Whether he becomes more stable or not is one thing, but should the marriage be granted, Zheng’er would become Prince Dingbei’s son. After all, the decree from Prince Dingbei wishes for a son-in-law to marry into the Prince’s mansion. So, my beloved consort, are you willing?”

Marry into the family?

Consort Fan’s face turned pale: ”Your Majesty, this is too absurd. A dignified prince, how could he marry into another family?”

Marry into the family? Hell with that.

How could a prince possibly marry into someone else’s family? It’s simply outrageous.

”Then you are unwilling.” Emperor Chu sarcastically tore off the page with Commandery Princess Dongyang’s name.

Consort Fan’s heart tightened.

”Prime Minister Song has requested a decree from me; the daughter of his household will not participate in the consort selection, and I have promised him.” Emperor Chu then tore off the page with Song Ruqi’s name.

Consort Fan could no longer maintain her smile.

”The selection of a consort is a major matter; my beloved consort must be more prudent and discuss it more with the Empress, as the future daughters-in-law should also address her as ’Mother Empress’!”

Consort Fan’s lips quivered, almost ready to cry.

”I still have state affairs to attend to, so I cannot sit with my beloved consort for long. Prepare the carriage.”

Attendant Zhou hurriedly assisted him in standing up.

Consort Fan also stood up, not daring to utter a word, respectfully escorting him out, watching as Emperor Chu walked away. She turned back to the hall and smashed two porcelain bowls.

Kunning Palace.

Empress Gongsun quickly heard the news and glanced at the Fifth Prince, who was sitting straight and writing at the small table not far away. She smiled slightly.

Compete, it’s best if they fight until their heads are bloodied; only then will my son be more secure.

”Lady, should this list be reorganized?” Biluo asked softly.

Empress Gongsun took a sip of tea and said, ”What reorganization is needed? These are all eligible noble ladies; the Emperor has looked through it and will know who to leave out.”

If it were reorganized, how would these princes see the good ones, and how would they strive later?

Consort Shen laughed gloatingly after hearing about the affair at Chang Chun Palace.

”Does she take the Emperor for a fool, putting Commandery Princess Dongyang right at the top, afraid the Emperor wouldn’t notice? Does she think the Emperor is unaware of her intentions?”

”Lady, please lower your voice; walls have ears,” her trusted servant An Qing gently reminded.

Consort Shen pursed her lips: ”I didn’t say anything.” Thinking of the rumors spread by palace attendants, she laughed again: ”Oh, An Qing, what if they really had the Third Prince marry into Prince Dingbei’s mansion? That would be worth a big ceremonial toast, a grand ten-cup drink. By then, Consort Fan would be too tearless even to cry!”

An Qing helplessly: ”Lady, from ancient times to now, has any prince ever married into another family? That would only make the commoners laugh. The Emperor is only scaring Consort Fan; please don’t dream of it!”

Consort Shen blew on the new red lacquer on her nails: ”You won’t even let me entertain myself? I’ll just amuse myself with it.”

Thinking about it, she chuckled again.
