The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 181: Chapter 181 Grandmother is Awesome

Song Ci thought that she was an outsider in the whole Song Family. Precisely because of this, she was able to objectively see the facts and speak without fear.

Ahem, not exactly. She truly felt that Song Zhiyuan, this fortunate son-in-law, was quite decent. He had power and influence but wasn’t consumed by power lust. At least, he wouldn’t treat his children’s marriages as transactions.

”...Your father had a thought because he valued that person, not the family background. Otherwise, with his status, does he really need to rope in a poor scholar? And your father has been an official for over twenty years, he’s even become the Prime Minister. Calling him an old fox wouldn’t be wrong. Do you think his judgment of people is off?”

Song Zhiyuan: ”...”

Thanks for the compliment, calling me an old fox.

”The person your father has taken a liking to must have some merits, otherwise why would he want such a person as a son-in-law? Your father isn’t a foolish man, and he wouldn’t pick a son-in-law who drags the Song Family down. Oh, naturally, there are cases where the hunter gets pecked by the goose, but that’s something that hasn’t happened yet, right? Who can guarantee that a noble family will always remain prosperous, and who can guarantee that a poor family will always be poor?”

”Grandmother, that’s not what you said earlier.” Song Ruqi never knew her grandmother could be so reasonable.

”Oh, are you talking about the different upbringings?” Song Ci took a sip of tea and said, ”It’s all about understanding each other. The most important thing is the compatibility between you two. For example, if you say the vase could be used for arranging flowers, he wouldn’t say you can eat the flowers, but instead, he would bring you a bouquet. Two people need to appreciate each other and magnify each other’s strengths, then life won’t be so difficult.”

Grandmother’s words were impressive, leaving Song Ruqi dumbfounded.

”Alright, that’s it for now. Don’t dwell on it any longer. Some things are priceless, like love and willingness. Since your father is democratic, your marriage decision can consider your mother’s and even your own wishes. In the future, whoever you choose to marry, it’s your own choice. You can’t blame anyone else for the life you lead. I’m returning to my quarters.” Song Ci stood up.

Song Zhiyuan also stood up: ”Mother, I’ll see you off.”

He gave Song Madam a look, and the latter nodded, escorting the two to the door before turning to look at Song Ruqi.

”Now you can be at ease, right?”

Song Ruqi bit her lip, her face slightly flushed, and sat down.

”Your grandmother spoke quite reasonably. You can dissect her words and think about whether she’s right. Your father and I will choose a family of equal standing for you. Don’t overthink, just take care of your health.”

Song Ruqi asked, ”Mother, when you married father, were you really willing?”

Madam gave a bitter smile: ”Of course, I wasn’t willing, but it was difficult to go against my father’s will. Besides, I had seen your father and spoken to him. Your father is very good. I didn’t marry wrong; it’s just that the beginning was tough. Your father, as your grandmother said, is very accommodating to me. Even if he doesn’t understand, he never contradicts me but respects me. Qi’er, marrying below your station won’t subject you to excessive grievances from your husband’s family—they wouldn’t dare to mistreat you. Marrying high might keep you on edge. So it’s a double-edged sword, and whether life is good or bad depends entirely on oneself.”

”Given the choice, I naturally don’t want you to endure the hardships I did because that really requires great resilience, and I’m afraid you won’t be able to bear it.”

Song Ruqi leaned into her mother’s embrace, softly calling her mother, with Song Ci’s words running through her mind. The more she thought about it, the more embarrassed she felt.

It seemed like she couldn’t handle matters well, which was somewhat embarrassing.
