The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 182: Chapter 182: Big Brother, Like a Father!

Song Zhiyuan supported his mother’s hand as they slowly walked towards Chunhui Hall, listening to Song Ci’s admonishments.

”Don’t be too hard on the second girl; she’s so young, what does she know? She just thinks that, given her status and appearance, a match should be among equals. Even if she marries down, it shouldn’t be to a poor family.”

”Mother, I just think that child is good. If possible, I would like to groom him as a successor.”

Song Ci was a bit surprised: ”Do you think so highly of that person? Who is it? Could it be the guest elder scholar from the guest courtyard?”

Song Zhiyuan nodded: ”It’s a scholar with the surname Yan, with both talent and appearance, from a family engaged in agriculture and study. His family consists only of an old mother and a sister, and they have twenty or thirty acres of good land. The family is somewhat lacking in wealth.”

”If Qi’er is willing, I plan to prepare more dowry for her. Then, even when she returns to her husband’s home, life won’t be difficult. They could lead a good life together, and their future might be harmonious.” Song Zhiyuan smiled wryly, ”I hadn’t thought about what you mentioned, whether they’d have common topics to talk about. I never considered these things; I only thought the child was a good match, and that was enough.”

Song Ci felt a bit irked, thinking to herself that he was a traditional person raised with ancient teachings. How would he know about topics and conversations? Maybe she was showing off, talking about young people’s modern thoughts.

Realizing this, Song Ci inevitably reflected on herself, cautioning not to view matters solely from a modern perspective.

”You’re not wrong, but don’t you know what kind of temperament your daughter has? With her exceptional nature, how could she be willing? Her elder sister married into an aristocratic family, but you’re finding a match for the second girl in a poor family. This might even affect the sisters’ relationship. People fear comparisons the most.”

Song Zhiyuan replied, ”Mother is right.”

Song Ci sighed and said, ”Find a family with equal status. There are always good young men out there. Although she’s fifteen, since she’s your daughter, there’s no worry about her marrying. It doesn’t matter if she marries a year or two later; it’s good for a girl to have children later. Make sure not to rush into setting things down because marriage is a lifelong matter and cannot be taken lightly.”

Her greatest fear was for young girls to have children too early, especially the daughters from prominent families, who were particularly delicate, risking both mother and child.

As an elder, she especially feared such things.

Song Zhiyuan naturally agreed and coaxed her with kind words: ”It’s also meant to teach that girl not to always say Grandmother is biased. You’re doing it all for her own good.”

”I just hope everyone is well, so I can rest easy when it’s time for me to go.” Otherwise, the former old lady would probably disapprove.

”Mother.” Song Zhiyuan felt a headache, ”Why say such things again?”

Song Ci laughed lightly: ”I’m just saying, it’s your fourth brother’s matters that really give me a headache.”

”Didn’t Lady Wei over there drop a hint?”

”Your brother is something else, doesn’t fancy the girl, saying she’s older than him, blabbering on.” Song Ci’s eyes turned, looking intently at him, ”Eldest Son, your father is quite irresponsible. I’ve never relied on him, but you—everyone says an elder brother is like a father. Eldest Son, you can’t not look after your youngest brother.”

Song Zhiyuan: ”Of course, I won’t.”

”Then your colleagues, do any of their families have suitable girls? Maybe introduce one to your brother.”

Song Zhiyuan: ”...”

Why does he also have to take on the matchmaker’s duties?

Song Si, it’s all troubles he finds for him.

Meanwhile, Song Si, being mentioned, sneezed twice, causing his hand to tremble, dropping the stake into the area of the gambling table that represented the ”Leopard” slot.

”Bets are in, reveal! Three sixes, Leopard, all lose!”

Everyone turned to look at Song Si, the legendary child of fortune!
